played my 3rd gig today was in a decent bar but a crap crowd. enjoyed it though especially playing with manchester band pendelton singer/bassist was good to talk to and really easy going anyway.

point of this is just to say what the ****. gigs need promotion so why is it the person who says "ill do some" doesnt actually do anythign but expects loads of people to show up?

Yeah, a few months back my band got booked with a couple pretty big ska/punk bands in a bar that's like *the* place to play if you're a big local band...

and 15 people came...

eh, i got sucked into playing a show a couple years back in the backwoods of my area. we were promised 100+ kids to show up, and get a good chunk of the admissions cash. it was with like 5 other crappy punk bands that threw their instruments across the room and kicked in a bass drum head at the end of their sets. no one showed up, except for the couple of people that came with my band. and at the end of the night, they wanted us to pay something like $20 to help cover the cost of renting it out... wtf?!? needless to say, we just packed up our ****, and went on our merry way without giving them any money.

wack.

so don't feel bad, dude. happens to the best of us.

lol you had 15 people go to a show we had a total of 9 people excluding pendelton.

but ah well another gig next week shall be good cos it is a pretty well organised advertised night round here but we are the only band on to my knowledge rest is all poetry lol.

and if any1s ever offered a gig with pendelton i say take it they are brilliant and great guys to talk to.

Last weekend i played in a pub with prostitutes and alcoholics and my bass batterys went in the middle of the second song (i hate active now lol) my freind went to change it,it came back with the connections wires snapped and a tone knob missing so i played my aria which is pretty rough to play, the crowd sucked as well but we got £200 which was awseome which i think most of us had spent on alcohol that night.

I've played a ton of shows infront of a hXc crowd which counts less then 30.

Just a rite of passage into things.

These things happen, bands are unreliable so you should promote your own shows and stuff.

Becuase people are stupid enough to hire someone who isn't a promoter and they don't have a manager.

Some of my favourite gigs have been played in front of the local bunch of 12 year old clones, emo/ pop punk kids. About 30 or 40 of them.
We play our old style bluesy rock to spite the ****ers, its great.
Usually taking the piss oout of all the people in the audience we don't like too.

Then again the big gigs are much better because of the higher pay, so we don't mess about on them. Even if it is a low turnout, we are still geting a good chunk of money to go home with.

Never trust someone else to promote for you unless they are someone from a promotions company who is contracted to you.

Always promote your own gigs and do so as soon as you can after you know you are playing the gig. The more time you have, the more people you can get.

I've only played school gigs.
And that's the worst because they have to be there and will hate you whatever you do mostly.
