Actually, Wikipedia has something about this in their entry...I'll get the link for you.
EDIT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Justin_Chancellor
I think it's a different pedal.

I hardly doubt you'll be able to nail Justin's tone with just one pedal. Justin's board consists of 15+ effects and his amp/bass also come into play.
But I would say just play with a pick for that extra attack and boost your treble.

They do exist. I actually just sold mine to a user here about a month ago.
He uses it between 4:02 and 4:30. IIRC, on the 5th/octave up setting, he just does quick heel-to-toe sweeps while fiddling with the volume knob.

Not to be an *** but..that didn't help him at all.
If he wanted to listen to the song i'm sure he wouldn't want to listen to a mediocre cover.

mediocre is being very generous.
i would worry more about playing the right notes and timing more than trying to match Chancellors tone

You know, tone changes quite a bit with recording, amp, bass, and many other factors. Don't bother with the exact tone. But if you really have to, just get close.

I know, I just felt it was a semi-appropriate time to whore. =/

I find, that to get his tone, you have to use about 60-70% of the bridge p/up and only 30-40% of the neck, boost the treble and mids, and use a pick.
Of course, you still need chorus and possibly a bit of reverb.

When someone asks a question, just whoring your band makes you look like an asshole.

I think 75% of his tone actually comes from his Wal bass, not the effects he uses.
Don't get me wrong, the effects are part of his sound, but most of his tone comes from the Wal bass along with the Mesa-Boogie 400 something or other he uses.
As far as Schism tone goes, he doesn't really use any chorus on it.
The whammy is used in the mid part of the song, however he's not actually using the semi-infamous 5th/Octave up setting that he likes. It's simply an octave up setting. He also uses distortion, but how exactly he achieve the synth like sound is beyond me. It's a unique combo of bass+amp+distortion+whammy+who knows what. Your chance of reproducing this tone is slim to none, unfortunately.
If you can accurately play the song, however, you will impress most people, even if you don't sound just like he does.

They were discontinued a while ago. I hear a guitar one will work, but doesn't sound great.

When I play Schism I just run it through my BP200 which, to my ear, recreates the whammy part that JC plays quite well. The setting I use is:
Amp - Muffuz Gain 35 Level 35
EQ - B2 M2 T7
Silencer - Threshold 35
Efects - Whammy Lvl 99 1 octave up
Delay - Fdback 1 Sprd 1 400ms
Expression - Whammy Min 0 Max 99
*edit* Pick the note hard then rock the pedal forward, mute the string and the bring the pedal back down.
The rest of the song I just play on bypass with boosted treble, tiny bit of low mids and a fair bit of bas, picked nearish the bridge with slight weight towards the bridge pickup.
Ofcourse a LOT of the sound is gained from the individual setup and I wouldn't count on being able to emulate top of the range gear on a lot of stuff (else that'd be top of the range gear you're using!). The most important thing is to make it sound very, very bright (IMO), and I can't imagine getting close without picking it.

I don't have my BP200 here, so I can't confirm/deny that your setup sounds similar to his.
But I use my BP200 for all my Justin tones, and while it's not the real deal, it does do relatively good job at getting something similar.

justin chancellor actually switched to gallien kreugor heads according to the latest article in bass world (or was it bass player?). He was jamming with one of his side projects and there was a GK head, and he fell in love with its punch. he still uses mesa cabs though.

Be that as it may, I'd still say the vast majority of his tone comes from that Wal bass.
He also started using a Demeter preamp as well, that probably has something to do with it.

Doesn't his tone also come from the fact he has almost always a little bit of a dirty tone coming from a 2nd amp? I think he uses his Rat on that one.

i believe the "side project" was when he jammed with Isis i believe their bass player uses GK heads and he let justin use em when they collaborated on the song altered states...

thanx but that is no where nere justins tone. but i think i got it now.
bass at 3/4, low mids at 1/2, hi mids at 1/3, and treble at all the way. i have a four string with p and j pickups. i play in front of the p pickup to get a deep tone and turn my pick at an angle to the strings to make a punchier sound. also new strings help. they must be very bright. and i went from 105-50's to 105-45's and it makes all the difference. thanx guys. ill try and put myself on youtube playing it with my drummer soon.
