Newbie question maybe, but a pal asked me and I really don't know: where is the much-used line "Bass!! How low can you go?" originally taken from?
I always thought some George Clinton groove (calling for Bootsy) but is it really? It was made popular by Simon Harris (on his album of the same title in 1988) and others, but hey, it was a classic line among die-hard funksters before that date, wasn't it? All help appreciated.

The only thing I've heard it in is "Bring the Noise" by Public Enemy.

Bass! How low can you go?! Death row! What a brother knows! Once again, back is the incredible, the rhyme animal, the incredible D! Public Enemy number one! Five-oh said freeze, and I got numb! Can I tell 'em that I really never had a gun, but just the wax that the Terminator X spun?! Now, they got me in cell, 'cause my records, they sell, and a brother like me said "Well... Farrakhan's a prophet and I think you ought to listen to what he can say to you." What you ought to do is follow for now! Power to the people! Say, "Make a miracle, D, pump the lyrical!" Black is back, all in, we're gonna win, check it out! Yeah, y'all c'mon, here we go again...
Turn it up! Bring the noise!
