So apparantly there are copies floating around on the internet. Anyone have any opinions? I'm only up to the second track but quite enjoy it...it is different than their other stuff.

Where did you happen to find this? Just want to leave it a mystery or what?

I got it off of Oink, but its no longer up because it had a skip on track 2 or track 5 or something.

The one on Oink was also missing the last 2 tracks.

Yeah, it went up a few times with all of the tracks, but had a scratch. A new, good version is up. So far, I am really enjoying this album.

I love it already - I'm at the beginning of track 2.

Even the funk works.

It's absolutely fantastic - Crane Wife 3 is almost as good, if not better, than The Infanta (which is awesome).

I liked it, it was sort of like a full length version of The Tain.

they're stuff is good, but sometimes it just seems they're doing the same things over and over. i might check it out, but i get the feeling that if i don't, i probably won't be missing anything i haven't heard by them before.

I've had the album for a few days, but I haven't had a chance to listen to it til now. Half way through first track, good so far but his voice seems to have changed. Less of that wicked accent he has.

His voice has changed? I haven't noticed at all.

Me neither.

If anything, its more husky.

Which is awesome.

hate his voice, hopefully it did change

No it's not a very drastic change, it's very subtle. It's like it just sound more produced or something, like they've adjusted it a little. Sounds better raw and wicked, still not a massive difference.

As well, The Perfect Crime 2 is so very very good, and works surprisingly well.

PECOAE

No, it just seems like he's getting older, not produced.

The Crane Wife 3 is unbelievable - I love the drums. :)

And yes, the Perfect Crime 2 is fantastic as well.

The Decemberists deserve your money, and you know it!

I think it's quite a departure from their other stuff. It's not totally obvious on the surface or anything, but the mood is definitely different. It's less light-hearted and more mature, I guess.

pretty good album.

I think it becomes pretty obvious on The Perfect Crime 2 that it is a clear departure.

If they stuck with expanding their previous style I think they wouldn't be able to top or equal their past releases, so that change is a good thing, in a way. Gotta keep it fresh, you know.

Love The Decemberists, didn't even know they were working on a new album; so this is a nice surprise. They have somewhat abandoned the sea-shanty sound (to an extent, there are elements with (I think) the organ that is reminiscent) but kept the orchestra of electic instruments and story-like lyrics. I quite like the transition, they still maintain the elements I love about them, slightly quirky and fun. I like the album.

PS. Whoa track 2, The Island etc etc is insane.

It definitely has a different feel to it. Colin Meloy actually sings in a lower range in one of the songs, which kind of threw me off awhile. Haven't gotten a really good listen.

I'm really in a moral dilemma right now. I'm a huge Decemberists fan and I really want them to have the money this album costs. But I always want to listen to it. Now.

I've listened to the entire thing once and I was really impressed. I'm usually not that impressed on a first listen so I think this might become one of my favorite records. I think it could be a classic within the alt/indie crowd too.

Sorry to bump an old thread but I believe this album just got released (even though we all had it months ago).

Anyway, this album is brilliant, I particuarly like about 7:30 on The Island, Come And See, The Landlord's Daughter, You'll Not Feel The Drowning but the song (and album) as a whole is awesome.

I'm not really liking The Perfect Crime and When The War Came though.

Maybe its just because I haven't heard enough Decemberists, but honestly I think When the War Came is one of the best songs of the year, it's fantastic. This whole album is great, especially the cover art.
