Im going to see Iron Maiden tonight. Is it true that they play the new album in its entirety?

I believe it is. I know they played the whole thing at the first show, but I haven't seen any of the other setlists. It wouldn't differ too much if it does change anyway. Have fun man :thumb:

Trust me, I will. They could fart into the mics and I would be a happy guy.
I've never thought of us as a metal band, and I never think about metal. Bruce [Dickinson] will go on about us being a metal band, and maybe people see us that way, but I think there's more to us than that. If people want to call it heavy metal, that's fine with me, but I don't think of it that way.
I think of this record as more progressive. The lyrics are subtle and moving, and the music has a powerful progressive thing, an orchestral feel and thematic melodies all the way through.
For a band our age, we took a few chances, but we have the musicianship to expand songs to what we feel is the right length. If we feel a song needs to be eight minutes long, it's gonna be eight minutes long.
I hear albums now and they sound unbelievable — everything's piled on top of everything else, and they're produced to the hilt. Then you see the band live and it sounds like any other band, because it can't have what the record has. Everything's done to a click track and there's no air. It doesn't breathe.
Adrian [Smith] is using a guitar synth on this album, which is great. It adds a bit of sparkle. But what I don't like are all the processed sounds. You press the Jimmy Page button and end up with a supposed Jimmy Page sound.
But you know, Jimmy Page didn't have a button to be Jimmy Page, and that's what made it exciting.
He's got a very good point at the end.

Anyone going to see Maiden on their first European dates (Denmark)?
give me a little while (ie an hour or so) and i should have all my music onto my new external hard drive (300gb, virtually unlimited music piracy :D ) and then i'll upload the bootleg for people. i'll just put the link in here, as there's no copyright on it, so it shouldn't violate the rules of mx.

^you can see almost the entire gig up on youtube. Something tells me thta might be our early days tour dvd.
i don't know, because they it's apparently from the '03 tour, so not from the early days tour. unless it's just tagged as the wrong year.
i hope there is an early days tour album though, even if there's not a dvd.

IRON MAIDEN Drummer Defends Band's Decision To Play Entire New Album Live - Oct. 14, 2006
A video clip of IRON MAIDEN frontman Bruce Dickinson ripping up the "Play Classics" sign that was thrown on stage by a member of the audience at the group's headlining show at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York on Thursday (Oct. 12) has been posted online at YouTube.com.
In a live interview with the "Friday Night Rocks" radio show on New York's Q104.3 FM conducted on Friday (Oct. 13), IRON MAIDEN drummer Nicko McBrain defended the band's decision to play their new album, "A Matter of Life and Death", in its entirety on MAIDEN's current tour.
Said Nicko: "You're never gonna be able to please everybody all the time.
"When we finished recording this record — that was way back in March/April of this year — when Kevin [Shirley, producer] had finished putting everything together and we listened to the record from top to bottom, it's one of those moments where — we're not sure who said it — but it was one of those magical moments when everyone was like, 'We've gotta do this live.' More than likely it was Steve [Harris] that said something. Nobody knows who it was that came up with this idea of doing it, but it doesn't really matter, because we all were in agreement. And we went, 'This is too good. What do you leave off this record?' In the past, we've always done five or six songs off a 10- or 11-track album. And so you kind of normally had two-thirds of the record performed live — I mean, 'Dance of Death', we did six tracks off the album — but this is historically the first time we've EVER ventured into doing something like this.
"For me, my personal feeling, and it's very well documented, I'm sure, is that I think that this is the best album I've ever made with this band. So I was delighted — it was a challenge, it is a challenge every night to play these songs, because they're very intricate, there's a lot more progression… there's lots of reasons what makes, for me, this album to play live a challenge. But we decided to take the bull by the horns and say, 'Look, we're not really worried…' Because we knew — and believe me, we sat and we said, 'You know we're gonna get flak for this from a lot of our older fans and even some of the newer fans who wanna hear the older classic songs.' But this is the wonderful thing when you've got 14 records that are all magic that all have great songs on them. So, let's just say, there's an average of 10 songs [per album], there's 140 tunes to choose from over a wonderful career of 25-plus years. The older fans and newer fans all go, 'I wanna hear my favorite, I wanna hear this…' but to do this, it is bold, and we just decided, 'Look, this is what WE wanna do as a band.' And we took the decision, and we knew we were gonna get various amounts of flak for it. And to be honest with you, I wrote a little [tour] diary [entry] the other day and I stuck it on the site and I said, 'Look, for you guys out there, stop freakin' whining. Just come and enjoy it. This is what we're doing because this is what WE want to do.' And it's not about not doing what our fans want. Because our fans made this record No. 9 — it was a Top 10 album — we've never had a Top 10 album in America. So there's a lot of people who are very happy to hear this album in its entirety. There are gonna be the people that are whining and moaning and groaning about it… Well, too freakin' bad. You're gonna get what get.
"Listen, if you look at it this way, and this is the way I look at it: You do an IRON MAIDEN set. We've got it split into thirds. We're doing two-thirds of the set new stuff; one-third is the old stuff. So you're getting two-to-one new. OK? That ain't bad. The great thing about it is that you know full well you're always get 'Iron Maiden' — it's the show closer, it's the signature song for the band. That will always be played last, and that's usually when you'll get the feature of whatever the theatrics we have on the stage — the entertainment side. We'll always have the album theme with a special effect come out — you're always gonna get that. One thing you always will have is 'Hallowed be thy Name', because I… myself and Steve, it's both our favorite IRON MAIDEN song to play live. And I made a deal with Steve years ago, and I said, 'If there's ever a time when you decide you don't want to do this song, you're gonna have to go get a new drummer.' Those two songs you will always have — always. There may be a time when we drop 'Hallowed' — possibly. But songs like 'The Trooper', 'Number of the Beast'… We've got 'Fear of the Dark', '2 Minutes to Midnight', and people go, 'Oh, I don't wanna hear '2 Minutes…' I'm fed up with it.' You're never gonna please everybody. But, of course, you don't wanna make somebody upset. They come all the way to see you, and they spend a lot of money to come down and have a good night out, and then they go, 'Oh, I'm disappointed.' I've read some e-mails that people have sent it, saying, 'I hope they change the setlist by the time they hit Europe.' Well, I've got news for you. Sell you freakin' tickets. Go scalp 'em. 'Cause we ain't changing the setlist.
Nicko seems a bit miffed.

I can understand where Niko is comming from though. It you look at for example blabbermouth, there is a hundread dumb asses everyday who post "WORST SETLIST EVER, MAIDEN ARE THE BIGGEST IDIOTS EVER! DO NOT GO SEE THEM, THE NEW ALBUM SUCKS!
I am personally quite pleased with this setlist, if i could go see them i would be extremely happy.
Also the bruce video (great video) is just Bruce acting out. He's always done stuff like that. Durring the early days tour alot of fans kept on yelling " PLAY FEAR OF THE DARK!" and of course Bruce would start yelling ITS THE EARLY DAYS TOUR ASKJSLFKJDLFJ
Interesting video none the less

Yeah, Nicko made a lot of good points, people who start name calling and moaning far too much are very unappreciative of what they have, especially when there are alot of people they are passing over this tour, Maiden is still Maiden, sure I would have liked a few of my favorites in the set, but I love all of the new album, and all of the classics that they are playing, I'm fairly pleased.
Besides, I'm going to see Iron Maiden, they could stand there and do nothing and I'd be reasonably happy :)
Personally i'm glad they're not playing many of the classics this time around :) it would have been nice to see some rarer songs or Blaze era songs but i'm not complaining at all.

The old songs have been done many many times. They're on lots and lots of live albums.
They just did an entire tour dedicated to their old stuff.
My prime complaints with RiR and DotR is that there isn't enough of the respective latest albums on them.
AMOLAD is a fantastic album, and I can hear their old stuff some other time: but I want to hear the AMOLAD stuff while it's still fresh.
Argument won.
Thank you.

Alright, so now that I can form somewhat coherent thoughts, I'll share what I thought to be some of the highlights of the show. First of all, all of Bruce's little dance maneuvers while he's performing are simply cool as hell . I think playing AMOLAD in its entirety really magnified the crowd's anticipation for the classics they played... IMO that was one of the best decisions they ever made. Something I'm just realizing now is that the cheering/applause when Bruce said there would definitely be another tour was not matched, not even by Hallowed  .
Some other highlights, for me anyway, included my friend being really sick by the go station and throwing up all over the place, also me almost falling 8 or so times trying to get out of the bloody ACC.
edit: found these videos of the show actually: http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=Shawn123454321

I've been to the show and they weren't that great. The bassist kept stepping over his strap, and the drummer wouldn't stop hitting his high tom when they went into the crash in number of the beast. Other than that, the made some lousy covers of metallica, which were horrible compared to their originals.

We went down on the floor just so we wouldn't have so far to go when Maiden came on. I ended up getting into it with some emo-goth fag. A bunch of pit ragers and one of them happened to catch me right above my eye. Chaos ensued. :smash: :smash:
It was a really good show overall. The last 30 minutes was better than the first hour. I still am not a huge fan of the setlist, but the energy and stage presence made up for it. Maiden played their asses off. Nicko split his bass drum skin so Bruce walked around and talked for a good 5 minutes or so while a drum tech came out and changed it. I was able to get pretty close. I ended up being just about 3 feet (just shy of 1 meter for those metric people out there) away from the wall. The stage set-up was really cool. The tank with Eddie sticking out was great. I'd definately go see them again.

Okay. Lord Ollie has his points to make.
1. AMOLAD live is going to be incredible. I stand by everything Nicko said, people should stop ****ing whinging, the album is amazing, and it's going to be amazing live, so if you don't like it, **** off.
2. The new video for DW is really cool. It's like a Resident evil game, but with big metal spider things-awesome.
3. There will be other tours, there will be the next "era tour" either next year or the year after, they are making at the very least one more album, Steve said he always wanted 15 albums, then he would consider what to do there.
And now Steve said he'd like to make more than 15 albums.
I can't wait for the next era tour.

Anyway I liked it a lot. Although it's ridiculous to want to hear all of the classics and nothing new, it's kind of sad that they're not playing awesome songs from albums like Brave New World. Would've made my night if they stuck The Mercenary or the Wicker Man in there someho.

Since we're posting videos...here's one from Tuesday's show. Nicko split his bass drum skin so the first couple minutes of the video is Bruce talking. Then it goes into The Longest Day. This is actually one of the better videos I've found of the show. The sound is really good and the video is pretty clear.

I had worked my way almost all the way up fron by that time. When Bruce was talking I was just about 5 feet away from the wall and a little to the right of the stage.
That was a cool video dude. Bruce's rants are one of my favourite parts of seeing Maiden... It's funny seeing such a little guy get so worked up

Holy ****....Holy ****....
I saw Maiden 2 days ago in Chicago. ****ing awesome concert. They placed AMAZING!:amaze:
The sound quality and attitude of the crowd and Maiden was just fantastic. EVERYONE in Allstate was into it.
Just wow...I've seen many, many concerts and this one goes to the top.

lol, they sound NOTHING like Bagpipes :p.
And trust me I know.
Bagpiping ftw.
But, tbh, if Maiden had a good bagpiper or two for a song, they could deffinatly do something insane.
Does to! :mad::(

I'll be at Earls Court on the 23rd.
In recent news, I played a cover of the Trooper (unrehearsed!) infront of about 30 people on Tuesday. That was the first time I've ever played infront of an audience, and it was great!

Classic. About the 4th time I watched it, and the first time I've noticed how much they changed around.
my opinion:
IRON MAIDEN > ALL OTHERS
i will be attending the two LA shows with quite a few members of the IRON MAIDEN board. DOD is awesome. 4.5/5
Sup guyz
Saw them in Irvine last night from the pit.

Is it just me or does anyone else find that the band members look much more kick *** now than they did the 80's, especially Adrian.
adrian's put a fair bit of weight on, but him and Steve are my fave members - steve for being amazing on bass, and H for writing awesome songs and riffs.

hmm, no love for Bruce...
well, he's only the singer :p
although the smith/harris/dickinson songs are quite often my favourites.
The Fallen Angel = some badass ****. :D
one of my favourites from BNW :) awesome track.
i wish it was on Rock In Rio, it rocks so hard.
Yeah, I wish it was on there too. They could take of "Ghost of the Navigator" if you ask me. I never thought that song was all that great.

Nicko broke a bass drum head when I saw them last week. It was cool.

i saw the video on youtube of bruce rambling on for a bit while it was being changed, then the first couple of minutes of The Longest Day.
Breaking bass drum heads, now that's metal. :)
on the first bass kick of The Pilgrim as well, he somehow managed to complete that song, then had to run down to Steve to tell him not to start the next song, according to his diary Steve was really surprised to see Nicko standing next to him

Nicko's an awesome chap
Nicko's not scary. I just want to give him a hug.
Not as much as Davey though; no one beats Davey for hugs.

Totally, that guy smiles constantly/is a hero of mine.
I love Davey's dancing during songs.
