And what will you listen to in the meantime ?
a range of stuff.
for example, my mp3 player fairly regularly goes from, say, Bodom to Bob Marley, or Maiden to Johnny Cash.
i listen to quite a lot of rock, punk, punk rock, pop-punk, etc, as my girlfriend only listens to a little bit of metal. and she forces me to listen to RnB as well, which i'll just about tolerate at her house, but no-where else.
Maiden ftw.
although i tend to go through phases of not listening to them a lot, very occasionally i'll go away from metal completely for a couple of days.
I tend to stray away from Maiden every now and again, usually when i discover a new band, i always come running back to Maiden though, their music has longevity, i never seem to get bored of it.

It was last year, 25th June, the day of the great Iron Maiden concert over in Paris, as part of their Golden Days tour, and down at the Kent EuroStar train station Steve Harris was getting on the same train as us to go to the exact same place. God knows why he wasn't with the other boys of Iron Maiden and getting a train over, but it was pretty damn fortunate he was :D
I guess you can afford to use transport like that when you're not that publically well known. Metal bands don't often get as noticed as more main-stream artists. As I was running back with my friends to our section of the platform, one woman stopped and asked me who he was

'sup guys. been away all day, but the newest diary is up:
Kevin Shirley's Studio Diary #4
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello, Maiden fans. I'm sorry that some of you disapprove of my diary's content, and I do care, but really - what can I tell you. Song titles, NO; lyrics, NO; album title, NO - so bear with me as I attempt to interest you with the little I can share. By the way, it cost me $3000 to have you all hit my site - so that's no reason for me to do it - I don't hear a great call to sell Caveman t-shirts and soap-on-a-rope on my website. All that said - here's what happened...
A GREAT WEEK!!!!!
Bruce came in and sang three songs over two days - very well too! He cycles in on his bike - about 4 o'clock and leaves about 8 - and we're glad to see him go when he finally packs his bags, as the last hour is always spent listening to a discourse on planes and flight patterns and various other topics that he's very well versed in! I compiled the lead vocals from about 3 - 6 tracks depending on the sections of the songs I was concentrating on. I used about 80% of the original live tracking vocal, cut when the band cut the basic tracks - and there's a magic spirit on them! The three amigos, Adrian, Davey and Jan also came in - Jan did an amazing solo - filled with his trademark
"Blackmoresque" licks and some awesome wild whammy bar nonsense, Adrian did one of his note-perfect precision solos and Davey rolled out some of his fluid and flighty solos, and we have finished 3 of the 10 album tracks - AND mixed two!! Finished! FINAL MIXES! the album opener, and rocker single, and a great durgy track with an evil 7/8 groove! * We are so far ahead of schedule - Steve's bass sounds totally sick, he says he's never been happier with how the band, his bass, and the album is sounding - and I think this could be as big as anything they've ever recorded. It's definitely the high point of our relationship - that is Maiden with me producing.
And that is what happened in the studio. Bruce likes to suck on the caramel from Twix bars, after removing both the chocolate and the biscuit first; Steve eats pasta for dinner - with cream, pesto and bacon - every night! - and guards his private life strongly (adamant that he wants to keep me away from his 21 year old daughter, who is gorgeous and a really good singer!); Adrian has me scour Google maps for good fishing sites and hears tuning problems all over the place, where there are none (I think he'd even drive perfectionist producer Mutt Lange crazy); and Jan goes to the footy and on the piss with his mate, Ginger Mick, and doesn't seem to give a toss about anything. He
likes to be away from home cos his wife loads him up with manual chores, which he does but hates doing! Sensibly, they like to watch their pennies, and I guess that's how you get to keep 'em. I, on the other hand, am a spendthrift! Bruce is Bruce - the one, the only! Lovable, irreplaceable, unique and an incredible voice! That's the way Maiden should be!
I work hard in the studio, and play hard. Always have - and my evenings are generally spent drinking with much younger friends, who have me pay and like to imbibe to absolute inebriation! Just last night I had to rescue a totally inebriated young lady from the London School of Economics who had gone "coma" in the ladies bathroom of the London Soho House! On Tuesday, I took Drew and Alex out drinking - Drew was sick for two days, and Alex was beyond useless the next day. Pathetic! 'Arry maintains it's my fault because I took them young 'uns out - wha'evah!
And that's all - off to the studio. Tomorrow I'm going to bicycle to Brighton - about 65 miles, or 100kms - and tonight I am going to see a William Blake thingy at some gallery.
I have no new pictures, so have included this one. "Arry says his arse isn't as small anymore! It's an image from the new Ross Halfin book on Maiden, I believe!
Take care - Up The Irons!

Chains of Misery is a good song.
I was just comparin it to FHTE becasue it has that ACDC style chourse.....Anyway that whole albums really great. IMO judas my guide steals it completely. FoTD is just meh studio wise. Another one of my favorites though is childhoods end, the drum beat is just sooo awesome.
Also, the fugitive i really enjoy, kind of makes me think of the mercenary.....

BQOBD and FHTE are sooo awesome, then Afraid to Shoot Strangers pwns, and personally i love Judas Be By Guide.
FOTD > NPFD.
Agreed, Judas Be My Guide is own of their most underrated songs.

Chains of misery is excellent.
IMO, Judas Be My Guide shows off a much darker side of Bruce, how he almost growls all the verses, then the perfectly clean choruses.
plus, the song has 3 separate solos

Not entirely free.
I got a £50 Ticketmaster voucher for by birthday, which covered the cost of the ticket, and my friends ticket. He's paying me back for his ticket, leaving me £20 in the black to pay for my transport to and from the show (i.e. train and tube fares) and get something to eat after/drink during the show.
:D
Still feeling oddly depressed, and I have no idea why. Placebo are a good band live...

I'm working on the first three words.
There was a very hot girl there I was chatting to. We were getting on so well and flirting like anything, then her friend stole her for a few minutes, then she came back to in front of me, and sent a text, then told me apolagetically:
"My friend told me to text my boyfriend."
Me: "Ah."
Her: "She's [her friend is] very overprotective."
Yeah, singleness sucks.

one of my favourites.
Crag's friend: ''what are you listening to?''
Crag: ''Iron Maiden''
Crag's friend: ''what are you listening to a bunch of old people for''
Crag: ''  ''
heh, my gf liked Rainmaker , so i'm gonna get her listening to more and more and more metal.....
although at the moment her music taste could be worse, it's a lot of pop-punk stuff and too much hideous dance and r+b, so that's the bit i'm working on.
people used to wind me up for listening to maiden by saying they were crap and old, then i pointed out that they still have top 10 albums, and are still touring after getting on for 30 years, and have one of the world's largest fan-bases ever. then they shut up.

behind the iron curtain is a 30 minute video of the band 'behind the iron curtain' of russia (first band to do so i believe), alot of it is just them talking with fans and then you get 5 songs (or is it 3?) of them playing in one of moscows arenas. This was all on the wwolrd savery tour btw.
