I have notaced lots of bands make their own songs from iron maiden for example aces high has been re-done by cob and in flames

what do you all think about this

Trev
02-05-2006, 11:20 AM
The CoB one was good until the vocals came in, to be honest.

I really like Iced Earth's covers of Hallowed, Number of the Beast, and Transylvania, though.

PS. Does MXaiden have/need a drummer?

All power to them. If I don't like a cover of a song, no one's forcing me to listen to it. Also, for many bands its a good way to pay tribute to a band they like and at the same time show how they're unique.

And besides, I've covered The Wickerman live, so I can't bash them.

It's the single version, so it has the "Thy will be done" backing vocal in the chorus.

The singer isn't too dissimilar to Blaze...the solo was a bit sloppy though.

Kind of on speeds of Aces High... Is the live version of Aces High (LAD) slower than the Powerslave version? Mainly the bit when the intro really kicks in, it just seems a lot slower or less energetic than on Powerslave, or is this just me? Its the same on both versions and the vinyl version so its not that.

Hehe...it is me :)

As for DOTR DVD, I've got it, and it's not as bad as they make out on there, with the editing. Apart from The Trooper (which is painfully quick edits) and Wildest Dreams the editing is slightly slower then RiR, although there's still not as much focus on the soloists as I'd like (close up of left hand all the way through the solo's please, thx :p)

However, I did find that the image, but not the sound, started to skip about 3/4 of the way through Brave New World, so it would freeze, then jump. It started to make me dizzy, so I switched over watching it on the 5.1 version for Paschendale onwards. I don't have a 5.1 system, so it sounded really odd...much less of Jannick and Dave a lot of Adrian. I'm guessing it's sound good in the 5.1 system.

I haven't watched the special features yet, I'll let you guys know when I see them.

the_uber_penguin
02-07-2006, 11:37 PM
I'm not sure he can hit the top notes like he used to.

And if it were written for Blaze, Blaze can go deeper and still keep a normal sounding singing voice (Bruce switches to booming-speaking type voice alá Fear Of The Dark at RiR). By tuning 2 steps down, Bruce could sing it a 6th higher then Blaze did and so get through the whole thing in a comfortable range for him.

I haven't yet listened to the original, though, so I wouldn't know.

Janick always switches between his two Strats, I think one's only a Mexican strat, with fancy pickups, which would've cost about half the price of Daves original strat :p

Fender is amazing for everything.

I don't really see the difference (note the fact I haven't played those many guitars either) of using "more metal" guitars over Fenders, which are usually thought for Rock.

I mean... Maiden uses them. amirite

that's gotta account for sumfin

Well, Maiden does use fat strats, would could account for the difference.

Bah, you all have fancy rigs.

Mine is the pinnacle of cheapness;

Squire P-Bass -> Vamp pro -> PC

and

Vintage VS6 (SG copy in laymans terms) -> Digitech Deathmetal distortion (If the song needs that 'OMG that tone is so heavy and digital it makes everyone cry' effect, but I don't use it much) -> Vamp Pro -> PC

I'm only after upgrading my Bass atm, I'm after a Fender Precision Bass, maybe a '76 (I think that's what Harris uses) and then I'll upgrade the pickups in my Vintage, since they're the only things letting it down, everything else about it is perfect, it's better then a Mex Strat IMO.

He's a superb and moving First world war poet, Dying 6 days before Armistice day in 1918, while crossing a river towards German forces on the other bank under heavy fire.

Running Free? That's an easy Maiden song on any instrument. Hell, there isn't even a true guitar solo!

Due to Production considerations there will be no support act on the first two tour dates in Denmark but on all the other dates Maiden have confirmed up and coming US band TRIVIUM as their special guests.

Ugh...I'm not too much of a fan of Trivium, If they supported them over here, I'd be like, "play that one song you have that's pretty good, then piss off!"

Still, It's going to be awesome when the uk tourdates are announced.

I'll go to the gig nearest where I'm at uni, then go home and go with my mates from home.

I hope they play Sheffield, it's about an hours drive away, so that'd be cool. I'd have quite a few mates to come with me this time, unlike last time when it was just the 3 of us, so if there's a troublesome guy in the pit, we can kick his arse instead of hiding behind some women like last time :p

They should have got Edguy or someone like that to support them

I don't really mind who supports them, obviously i'd prefer someone good but in the end of the day i'm there too see Maiden and having to listen to some crappy band is a small price to pay to see Maiden.

Of course, but it would be nice all the same, I have put up with an entire festival of crap to see Maiden and I also had to put up with Funeral for a friend

ugh, Funeral for a friend, the rest of my band want to do a cover of one of their songs. I suggested a Maiden cover but the other guitarist hates Maiden:angry:

if it's december when they tour the UK, and in the 2nd half, we should be home from Uni already. if not, it's all of 12 minutes on the train from Durham (assuming i get the grades and go there) to Newcastle.

yeh. it'll actually be easier for me to go from Uni than from home. don't have to worry about lifts.

in other news: my 11 year old brother came home from shopping with his mates with a NOTB shirt.

he looks quite funny though - he got a Small sized shirt and it's still far too big for him. i was quite surprised my mother didn't have a go at him for it, usually she gets annoyed when he "wastes" his money like that.

haha. i couldn't cope with that. when i did my 11 days hiking in the alps last year, with only a 128mb mp3 player, i only had the RiR versions of Blood Brothers and Wrathchild to keep me sane! it worked though.

Even if they do tour the Uk, I don't think I'll be able to go because I'll be going to Uni in September, and I still won't have any idea where i'm going by the time the tickets go on sale  .

You have to use DKFH and Beatcraft in unison.
DKFH is a ton of drum samples and Beatcraft is a programmer thingy that you put them in to create the beats.

I can upload DKFH if you like.

Yeah I thought so too. Since I was with 8 other guys with dodgy Danish accents, I was a bit worried too. But I walked in and noticed that it was just another seedy metal bar. Good times really.

I'm now listening to Maiden for the first time in 3 days
