The James Labrie is a Master of KILLING SONGS!!!

Man, he have a horrible live voice, and even when hes in studio, he sound like a extremely high pitched chainsaw when he goes high...

If you dont believe me, listen to their Cover of "Master of Puppets".... oh bloody hell thats horrible...

/\/\ lies.

The Gangland cover is a great idea, see the idea to us and Maiden as Englishmen, is the idea of the Krays, Ronnie Biggs and 1960's London.
Americans have no experience of that, so DT, being American, translated that idea to the music that they associate with Organised cime, the sort of stuff from the 1920's... great idea.

I love LaBrie's voice, haven't heard the MOP cover though, he would have to be trying really hard to sound bad if he sounds worse than Hetfield.True, the only album james sounded good on was black album. So it shouldnt be hard sound better than him doing a cover of MoP.

However, it isnt just the vocals that make their cover of it only mediocre. Even instrumentally it wasnt exactly earth-shattering.

CONTROVERSIAL:
I think Load And Reload are Metallicas most interesting material, its good songs, nice melodies, always something to listen to, brilliant, fittingly basslines, bass at an hearable level, james voice is quite good, and just an higher level of quality in the production and the songs than on the other albums. and theres punch in the albums.

and while im at it, Dream theater is a bloody boring band live... and they play for 3 HOURS! I would have fallen asleep... the music(minus the vocals) is good(when they are not constantly Soloing...)...

He easily destroyed MoP with his vocals. He did a little better on sanitarium, nothing great though.

Load and Reload are great albums, they just aren't really thrash metal. They're more like hard rock. Most people complain because a thrash band released a hard rock album. I'm not a fan of load, but reload does have some great songs like bad seed, slither, poor man's lyric, fuel, memory remains, etc...

and while im at it, Dream theater is a bloody boring band live... and they play for 3 HOURS! I would have fallen asleep... the music(minus the vocals) is good(when they are not constantly Soloing...)...

I haven't see them live, but I haven't found their music interesting at all. For me their songs just go on and on and never get to the point. Their metallica covers would have been somewhat nice if they didn't do the vocals.

Iron Maiden is just an anthem, you have to sing it at the top of your voice when you're there. Paul was definitely good for his era, but his style wasn't right for NOTB, IMO he would never have done well on HBTN.

YDload
12-17-2005, 04:32 PM
I'll say what I've said before, which is that Paul improved immensely from S/T to Killers, but his improved voice was too reminiscent of Rob Halford. To survive, Maiden needed to show that they were different than Judas Priest, and Steve's bass playing and literary songwriting could only take the band so far. Vocals are what's most important in a band for most people (like the pop music crowd who decide how big a band can be), so they had to have a singer who was good but not with the same style as Halford. That's where Bruce comes in.

Thunder Fingers
12-17-2005, 04:37 PM
Well... Paul wasnt kicked becouse he sounded like someone else, Paul was kicked becouse he didnt want it, he didnt want to be a big rockstar, it was to much for him to handle, some nights he was just sitting on the side of the stage singing, he wasnt in to it, and thats the thing Steve always have demanded from the band, Love what your doing. so it was just a "coincident" that it happened at the time it did, but Paul was dragging maiden down with him, and they couldnt go on like that...

It was much the same with Clive when he left..

I have the feeling that most people like Bruces Vocals more than the others(why did record sales suddenly go sky high when he joined, ok, the songs are brilliant, But, im pretty sure it wouldnt have sounded as good with paul, and therefore wouldnt sell as much, and as said numerously times in "Run to the Hills" i am also pretty sure that maiden wouldnt have been around if Paul had continued In Maiden, or if anyone else than bruce had replaced him.

To start off with maiden its best to stick with the bruce albums for now. So the following albums i would reccomend buying would be:

dance of death

seventh son of a seventh son
pieve of mind
or of course you would just buy your brothers number of the beast albums.

Durring maidens last ozzfest show, sharon got a ton of people to egg them and turn of their PA speaker durring their set. Also she made someon with a american flag run out durring maidens set while they were perfoming the trooper( bruce waves a british flag). Also durring one of their songs a tape went off over the PA just saying OZZY OZZY OZZY so you couldnt hear maiden.

Excellent, I can't wait. The idea of a concept album is very cool.
yeh, i'm guessing if it's along the same lines as seventh son of a seventh son, it will hopefully involve a lot of mythological and historical influences. although maybe it's the power metal side of me wanting that...

What has been said in Run to the hills?
Both Paul and Clive couldn't cope with the pressures of fulltime touring, and Paul just got wierd, the more "rockstar" hobbies he had were interfering with his voice and he wasn't looking after himself, Clive was just unable to cope with it.

Roy Z hasn't worked on all Bruce's albums. didn't he have Janick, then Adrian, then Roy Z? i don't know where this Alex Dickson bloke fits in though.

and for a while on tour (years ago) didn't Bruce play acoustic for Revelations?

I feel quite strange as a maiden fan because i'm a fair bit younger than most :) I'm only 17 which makes me wish one thing, That I was born earlier to see more maiden gigs.

First ever gig I saw was maiden earls court on the 12th. DOD Tour.

I've never seen a live act thats lived up to that experiance, Foo Fighters and GreenDay have come close but they were NOTHING compaired to maiden, Saw maiden again at Reading this year, I was in the front row! Words cannot express how much I love this band.

Favourite songs have to be:
Iron Maiden
Prowler
Phantom
The Trooper
Running Free (best)
The Clayvoiant
and Blood brothers.

There are so many decent maiden songs i can't shortern it any further.

Got almost all the maiden albums (won't touch Blaze with a ****ty stick).

I saw DT on Gigantour in late August, but the mix was horrendous so I couldn't really hear LaBrie that well, but from what I remember being able to hear, he sounded pretty good. Petrucci and Myung moved more than they did on Budokan, too.

Portnoy's kids were behind him too, he kept tossing his sticks in the air and they'd catch them when he threw them too far back heh.

Is it me, or does Steve look lost without his bass?>

He actually sounded good singing, though, I was surpised.

That was like Dream Theater's Nightmare Cinema stuff, where they all swap instruments and cover Perfect strangers by Deep Purple

Must. See. That.

La Brie have a Horrible nasal and whiny voice when he goes high, when he keeps in regular talking voice vocal he sounds decent, other than that, UTTERLY CRAP! especially when he tries to cover Metallica...

Oh god that MoP cover gave me nightmares.

I'm currently digging Blaze era Maiden, especially the Fortunes of War and Futureal. Those two tracks are most sweet.
