Yes. I'd love to hear Face In The Sand live, or some of the stuff from the second half of BNW. (Particularly The Thin Line Between Love And Hate and The Fallen Angel)

Yes, I agree in fact. Last statement retracted! I'm sick of Hallowed...etc. But I'd rather hear something live off of Somewhere in Time, for example. I don't want live where it's so dominated that other great tracks are ignored for newer stuff - it does however mean that we hear on this album tracks that if the album was not released we would never hear again live...

It might have been meant as an ironic title - the band sludge out the classics as straight run throughs. It was released around the time Bruce left, and it shows - they (or at least he) was clearly fed up with singing those songs. Most of them appeared on Live After Death, so perhaps this album was released either to get some more money or to display the real tiresome sound of maiden in that era.
this I mean particularly A real DEAD one.

Which compilation? You should get a live album next, so go and get Rock In Rio.
Best of the Beast. I already have bits and pieces of Rock in Rio, and I probably will pick it up eventually.
06/09/2005It's that time again... Iron Maiden Xmas Card Competition!
You folks know the drill by now...
The last few years we've thrown the design of the official Iron Maiden xmas card open to you guys. This is the card that gets sent to FC members, to friends of the band... and to the last minute people we realise we've forgotten :) Each year, the standard has been amazingly high and we've had a real challenge agreeing on a winner.
So, we'd like you guys to do it again. Send us your designs - conforming to the specs below - and the winner will be picked by Rod, be printed and sent to loads of people. The winner will get a credit on the card and a big bag of groovy Iron Maiden stuff.
Your design needs to be A5 size (about 21 by 15 cm) - it's up to you which way round it goes (portrait or landscape). The picture is entirely up to you.
Now here's the important stuff - as the design will be printed, you need to make sure you have a high-resolution image that you can send us if we choose your card. If you're hand painting or drawing, no problem, but if you're creating your design from scratch in Photoshop or whatever, please make sure you do it at 600dpi and not at the lower resolution you'd use for things that are going to be displayed only on a monitor. Keep the original in a very safe place, and send us a copy.
HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR DESIGN
**************************
Please send in your submissions as lower-resolution JPEG or GIF images - we don't need you to send the huge hi-res file until we choose the winner.
Please make sure that you name your file with your own name - eg. jimsmith.jpg - cos otherwise we get 200 files called 'maiden.jpg'!
Email you entries to us here and please make sure you include your contact details.
Closing date for entries is 30th September. Good luck!
any of you guys thinkin' on entering?

Stevie- Bruce is dead against a "greatest hits" live tour, he doesn't want maiden to become cabaret, like Black Sabbath...He places the emphasis on new tracks to prevent this, and to show that maiden are still putting out amazing material.
This makes for a great live tour, but not neccessarily a great live album.
I need to get the new one.
I don't mind real live dead one- it's good to hear some rarer live tracks- remember tomorrow, where eagles dare and tailgunner among them, although the band don't sound as good.
Decided on a name yet?
I reckon it should be "thread of the ancient mariner"
because, well, it rawks. and because i suggested it :D

I doubt they'd ever play Face In The Sand live - Nicko had do use a double pedal for that song, and he's sworn since he'll never use one again.

If you listen to it, it's not particularly fast. I'll bet he could do it on a single pedal if he wants to.
If not, I'll bet he'll just play some uber cool rhythm on the bass drum instead.

they've never played it ever, apparently its coz adrian cant remember the solo, which i cant believe, i mean, he couldjust re-learn it, he'l good enoguh!
adrian always plans out his solos, unlike davey, who improvises.
the reason nicko can't do face in the sand isn't the speed - he did faster in the wickerman - but the length. i doubt ANYONE could keep up that speed and that power for four and a half solid minutes.

The last Radio 1 session Maiden recorded was for Tommy Vance's Friday Rock Show in 1979.
The session, which includes an interview with Bruce, will be broadcast between 7pm-9pm on the Zane Lowe show. You can also listen online via the Radio 1 Website.

The thing is that Clive Burr was a really great drummer. I mean, so is Nicko of course, but songs like Genghis Khan, Run to the Hills, and even the dreaded Gangland are heavily dependent on the percussion, and it's sad that the man who made those drum beats famous can no longer perform them.

If Iron Maiden made a song about laptops, it would just be another excuse to use galloping triplets. But instead of alluding to galloping horses or a charging army, it would be the clickety-clack of the keyboard!
Hey, any excuse they need for galloping triplets is a good one.

Hey man, sorry about Jari leaving Stratovarius, I know you were a big fan. :(
Also, I went to Gigantour and it was pretty cool. Megadeth's new bassist James MacDonough was a pretty faithful bassist when it came to playing Ellefson's lines, and John Myung was really really good but also kinda boring. He never made a single facial expression!

My band's version of the trooper is really tight now, You may think it would suffer because of only having one guitarist, but it doesn't much, plus the solo is a little different and so on, but it sounds good.

I just thought of a pretty good explanation. Gangland is in between some great songs number of the beast, run to the hills, gangland, then finally hallowed be thy name. Gangland just kind of slows down the string of awesome songs. So I guess I can understand why people hate it. It really does pale in comparison to Hallowed, but then again what doesn't?

hello all i'm an iron maiden fan and i have a question on the song 2 minutes to midnight, some say that it was a song about the cold war and the "2 minutes to midnight" was the hands of a DoomsDay clock created by a magazine which is said to reach midnight if a nuclear war was at hand. just wanted to find out your interpretations and opinions on the song. although i'm not sure if this question was already posted as there are 460 pages.. and i cant check em all

IF you look at the cover of the single for 2 minutes to midnight, you will see 9 flags. These flags are , the US, afghanistan, iran, iraq, cuba, USSR, Argentina, UK, and Isreal. They are not there by accident. At the time all of these countrys were in "war". The USSr had invaded afghanistan in 79' but only started to pull troops out in 88'. Iran and Iraq were at war with each other. Cuba was engaged in a conflict with Angola. And the US as well as the UK and USSr were guility ( and stilla are ) of delivering major weapons around the world. And, israel was still in war at the time. The whole concept of this song is about war and destruction, therefore all these war-mohnger countrys were put on the sleeve.
But, the cold war was the biggest theme of em all for this song. Aswell as the guy before me said about the doomsday clock.
