they should do a 6 disk set actually...1 disk for each album tour, then a history disk.

crag

that would be sweet

Josh
08-24-2005, 02:33 PM
yeh...but the odds on them doing that are pretty slim...i would settle for a Somewhere on Tour show and a World Slavery tour show, and then a TV in my room to watch them on. mind you, i don't even have The Early Days yet, and i'm just getting Death on the Road album not DVD.

is that this week's Kerrang you're talking about? there was an interview with Bruce last week, but i couldn't be bothered to buy the mag just for that.

i think the next DVD should do Powerslave ----> Fear of the Dark as well (and with a full World Slavery Tour show on it) , then you get a Blaze DVD and then a Reunion DVD.

I'm honestly not sure wether or not I'm looking forward to the DVD with Blazes era included. I really can't get into his singing no matter how much I've tried. It'ld be interesting to see the behind the scenes part on him, and possibley footage of Nicko pointing and laughing at Blaze during the Clansman which I've heard he was meant to do.

There is at least one live song with Blaze on it on Visions of the Beast. I think he managed Afraid to Shoot Strangers quite well.

]oh, and what is the 'fear of the dark' album like? i cant find any reviews, or copys of it anywhere..not even in my local virgin's insane store of Maiden albums. argh! i only ask because 'fear of the dark' rocked as a track

It's a good album, it has a few weak tracks. But overall its a very underrated album.

FOTD (song) is far superior live. But which version is best? Rock in Rio, A real live dead one or the other one?

I started playing bass using the strumming style of guitar. Then I learned to slap and pop. I only decided to try finger walking on the bass about a few days ago and prefer to use 2 fingers (for now). Since Maiden is my 2nd fav band, Steve Harris' basslines were the obvious ones for me to practise. What do you guys think the best Maiden bassline would be for getting into finger walking. So far, I've learnt some of Phantom of the Opera and I think I can play it up to speed, but it could do with more practice.

Watched the Rock In Rio DVD last night.

All I can say is...wow. The band has so much energy for a bunch of 40-50 year olds (I'm estimating), and their setlist was superb. So much energy, so much greatness...definately worth the 20 bucks I paid for it.

Yeah I have that dvd too and they do have a lot of live energy on that dvd, and in every concert they perform at. I love it when they do fear of the dark.

It varies between Bristol, Cardiff and Birmingham.

Getting to Cardiff is easy - £7.50 return fare on the train.

So can anyone tell me why someone who is incredibly rich as he is one of the most respected metal singers of all time needs to have a second job, like being a pilot?
because he enjoys it

Sounds like more fun than sitting at home.

How cool would it be to be flown somewhere by Bruce?

Useless bit of info - Bruce was in a question on the Weakest Link yesterday, I think the question was ''Which British heavy metal singer also flies planes as a hobby, Bruce ____?'' (the show had an airline theme to it, all contestants worked in airports or on planes)

The guy who was asked the question got it wrong.

when maiden tour you can get flown to gigs by Bruce, on "Bruce Air." it's normally a flight number ending in 666 as well

well, i think i'm gonna go and have a shower, as i still have beer in my hair from the gig last night. some morons were wasting entire pints, throwing them at the front rows. and i think i may have a sleep, i've been awake for nearly 31 hours now, apart from when i dozed of for 10 minutes on the train home this morning.

Songwise = Good

It's like listening to a bad cover of Iron Maiden. The live versions where Bruce sings proves that they are good songs, just been butchered by Blaze.

Blaze is NOTHING compared to Bruce in singing ability. Not to mention that Bruce's voice is better. Bruce's voice contributes a HELLUVA lot to the "Maiden" sound. Maiden dont sound like Maiden without Bruce.

Dude,

'Be quick or be dead' is awesome
'From here to eternity' is abit on the weak side
'Afriad to shoot starnger' is good (but better live)
'Fear is the key' and 'childhoods end' are a bit meh
'Wasting love' is great (but again is better live)
ok album gets abit weak from 'the fugitive' to 'Judas be my guide', which is one of the best songs on the album.
Weekend warrior is about the same level as 'from here to eternity'
FOTD is way better live than on the studio album

ok that may look like i shot myself in the foot with half them songs but they are still good and i still say it is a good album, better than number of the beast which people constantly say to me is their best album (for some reason)

Lord Abortion

Blaze is a fantastic vocallist in my opinion, the songs on X-factor and VXI were written for his incredibly emotional and dark voice, X-factor is my favourite maiden album bar POM, this is due to his voice mainly and the fantstic qualities he has, I love Bruce and would say he was my favourite vocalist of all time, but maiden with bruce are different than with blaze, for a start X factor and VXI are MUCH better than NPFTD and FOTD, both bruce albums, both badly lacking in quality, the vocals are differnt but I would say that bruce and blaze were incomprable dude to the difference in their tones and styles of singing

Right...I promised a review of Maiden...well here you go...

The set remained the same as had been played during this tour
Ides of March
Murders in the rue Morgue
another life
prowler
the trooper
remember tomorrow
where eagles dare
run to the hills
revelations
wrathchild
die with your boots on
phantom of the opera
the number of the beast
hallowed be thy name
iron maiden
................
running free
drifter
sanctuary

my position was dead level with Bruce's rightmost ramp. I started off in the second row and remained there up until phantom of the opera, where I got pushed back a bit
Maiden were absolutely incredible...there's no other word to describe it, there were "Sharon Osbourne is a wanker" chants coming from us in the crowd, along of course with the obligatory maiden ones... there was plenty of singalong, in songs such as run to the hills and running free especially, Bruce was on magnificent form, rarely standing still, he raced round the ramps to give the crowd alot of face time. During Where eagles dare, which was note perfect and a highlight especially the "Broadsword calling Danny Boy" intro tape...that song may have been my personal highlight, along with the manically fast another life and the amazing Hallowed be thy name, murders in the rue morgue, remember tomorrow, and the surprisingly great Drifter.
The crowd for the most part sang along to it all, such a great performance from maiden, and the greatness of Janick's epic fight with Eddie...I also missed one of Nicko's sticks by a few feet...

Bruce Quotes:
"whilst playing his guitar with my microphone, in a moment of Spinal tap-ism, I appear to have broken Janick's guitar string, there will be a break of a few hours because no heavy metal guitarist as you all know in the history of time has ever been able to string his own guitar..."

"Is it tuned?...do we care?"

you at the back there at the soft drinks stand...I want to see your ****ing hands in the air!"

(on remember Tomorrow)"this song was my audition for the band, and Iv'e been shitting myself every time we play it in case if I mess it up I get the sack"

(after coming back out for the encore) "Don't give me that... you know we're going to bloody well come back out anyway"

"he hides behind a lot of wood... so to speak...Mr Nicko McBrain!"

I may remember more later...during his mention of any other business to bring the crowd up to date... he said "anything else?" I shouted "Sharon Osbourne is a cunt...which got a few more people chanting the earlier chant... Bruce laughed and said nothing...

best song has to be where eagles dare...that was bloody incredible, hm... revelations too...wonderful singalong there...

In other news, I saw Maiden at Reading. The crowd were unbelievable, I never thought I'd see Bruce look lost for words, ever (I think that was just before Remember Tomorrow). I heard Bruce can be arrogant and agressive and generally a bit of a **** between songs (I hear a lot of RiR was cut for that reason) but he didn't show it last night. I dragged my friend (who hates Maiden) to see them with me, and now have a convert, although he's still annoyed at missing Bloc Party, he does now think Maiden rock. He did say to me after the show:

Bruce seemed to like saying "Scream for me Reading" a lot. It should be his catchphrase".

I showed him Screamforme.com when we got back.

The Trooper or Hallowed Be Thy Name were highlights for me. Dave looked so cute dancing around the stage. I wanted to put him in my pocket and take him home with me (and get guitar lessons from him). I also groped Iggy Pop's ***. I mention this because I'm a straight guy, and worried about both the Davery and Iggy thing.

The crowd were best during Run To The Hills, but that really doesn't suprise me. Running Free was awesome though, with the singalong bit.

I haven't slept in 42 hours. Goodnight.

Uber Penguin....those are the chord (E5 or Em on the Bass is E and B .etc) , Mr. Steve does strum for for half of the verse and fingers the chords for the first half and strums for the chorus...

so...you're worried about the wanting to shag guys thing...but not the penguin obsession? :p

Bestiality is good...

:s

Scratch that, I never said it!!! I don't want to be banned nooooo!!!!!!

Nah. Real reason is the Penguins will take over the world someday, us men won't. :D. I may as well be on the winning side.

I also found out that when I was really small I used to go to Beavers (like Scouts, but for really mini people - I was too small to remember it) and my patrol there was called "Penguins". That's purely coincidence.

As for the Blood Brothers thing, I didn't realise we were talking about bass. What I wrote was for the guitar. My powertab file doesn't have the bass on it, but on RiR it does sound like someone's strumming, so if it was bass it wouldn't suprise me too much.

I reserved my copy of DotR at HMV today...I'm going to wait for the DVD to come out.

Anyway, see you guys, I'm off to play The Pit at chess.

Thanks, I've heard Hallowed Be Thy Name, Children of the Damned, Number of the Beast, and Run to the Hills and I've liked them all so that album seems like a good choice. I've heard some other people suggest Killers as a first album, how does that compare?

For a first album, I'd say it depends whether you are after a studio album or not: if you are, got for NOTB. If not, get Edward The Great - it was designed with the aim of introducing people to Maiden.
