The newest issue of Guitar World has Aces High tabbed out, in case you didn't know. It also has basslines, which is cool because they even tabbed out the little end-of-the-song doodles that Steve Harris does :)

I actually was enticed to learn the song through GW's CD that came with that issue, which had a live video of Aces High. I haven't looked at the tab, as I typically learn with powertabs,(w00t for MIDI) but I'll take a look at their version, just in case there are any discrepencies between the two.

Same as me. SIT is supremely underrated.

Finally, I thought I was the only person who thought that was a great album. No one mentions when saying the best albums, but its my favourite, and its got the best cover art, save maybe Live After Death.

Sweep picking is awesome when you learn how to do it.

I can sweep pick a bit, but in the solo, he does a wierd triplet, so I figured out a way around it. It doesn't sound much different. I can actually barely tell my self. :p Anyways, now I can play all of both solos, except for the end of the first solo, which I doubt I will be able to 'learn' now, as my technical ability really inhibit me on that part.

i would honestly buy their new essential iron maiden cd before either because of the older songs but brave new world would be my choice of the two there because it has some harder songs that are really going to stick like the song wickerman.

I'd say Somewhere In Time. I love that CD, and it would be better for the guy who is collecting the Maiden albums to have another studio album rather than a compilation.

First post of the day :)

I've been really loving The Fallen Angel lately. That and There's A Thin Line Between Love And Hate.

I'm sure it's been noticed, that Iron Maiden's seventh album, is Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son, but it has eight tracks on it. This doesn't quite work.

If you had to get rid of any track on it, which one would it be, and why?

Extending that to other albums, which album, which track and why?

I'd probably drop Gates Of Tomorrow from Dance Of Death. It's just not a catchy tune, it doesn't have their usual quality, and it doesn't even have much to say.

From Brave New World, it's hard to choose. I'd probably shorten The Nomad. Otherwise Out Of The Silent Planet or Ghost Of The Navigator...it's a really tough choice though, that is a quality album.

Iron Maiden would lose Remember Tomorrow...

Number Of The Beast, Gangland...or Invaders (maybe)...

As for Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son...hmm Infinate Dreams, I guess.

Don't forget Drifter. They played Drifter in Iceland. It was great. First time listened to it to the end.

The Killers is a great album. Their music is getting little heavier from the album Iron Maiden but it was still punky. I think there was still little punk in The Number of the Beast but it was gone in Piece of Mind. First they change singer then the drummer.

I'm new here so please don't talk much down to me.

WAS ANYONE THERE TONIGHT!? WTF HAPPENED TO MAIDEN DUDE!!!!! BIGGEST UPSET EVER!!! Is there some sort of beef between them and ozzy or sharon or something. I will give a review.....scroll down if you just wanna read the Maiden parts im talking about.

So me and some buds arrived at the Hyundai Pavillion at Glen Helen, in San Bernardino California. It was a pain to find parking but we managed, and we parked next to a bunch of dudes going into the stadium. Well as they were leaving they said "Hey go ahead and sit on those chairs in the shade if you want." Pointing over to the chairs they were chilling at, we thanked them and drank our tall cans there. Then some dude comes up and says "Who the **** are you?" We said some dudes said we could sit here, his wife responded with "Thats our nephew." so we talked to thos 40 something year olds about Maiden, metal, and Ozzy. Good Conversation. We finished the tall cans and left for the concert, Mudvayne had just finished and Slipknot was coming up. So as we were walking up we were stopped by a sign that read "Beer, Water" We asked the lady how much, 2 dollars for a beer! Yes, excellent as opposed to the 10 dollars they charge in the venue. So we had a few more. We left in and we just made it to see many ladies flashing us there "goods" some not so good. Slipknot came on and it was good. They played The Blister Exists, Spit It Out, Wait and Bleed, People = SH!t, Duality, The Heretic Anthem, and Finished it off with Surfacing. Good setlist, had the people loving it. Then the moment of truth, Iron Maiden.

This was the last date they had in the states, so i had high hopes. I dont remember what song they opened with, but right after they went into The Trooper. Bruce of course dresses as a Red Coat and waves the British flag. Its classic, and a Tradition maiden fans love. Not this time though, some ******* in the middle of the set somehow got on to the stage and waived the American flag all over the stage. I thought it was part of the act considering we are in America, but Steve and Bruce looked over like "Wtf?" He was escorted off stage buy 2 stage hands. I have nothing against america, but what was this guy trying to prove, anyways it gets worse. After trooper they was a short break in the action when Nicko and a drum tech had to clean off his kit cause of a 'kin egg. AN EGG!!!!! Some guy apparently brought in a carton off eggs and starting throwing them at maiden! Bruce was pissed and you could tell. he said

"Obviously some ****er went down to the supermarket and bought eggs only to throw them at us, **** YOU! **** YOU! If i were a Maiden fan i would make sure this guy is beat to the ground and brought back up in 2."

They went on, or did they? Next thing happened, They were in the intro of Hallowed be thy Name, and Bruce is sitting on the stairs singing away but looking into the crowd, then all of a sudden he gets up and walks toward the crowd and says

"Thats the ****er! Yeah YOU! With the ****in Glasses! You ****er, 'spitting all over the stage the band' (something along those lines) **** you!! If i wasnt up here i would beat the ****in **** out of you, but i would get sued! **** you! I'll ****in **** on your head!!."

Maiden fans were delighted, but not Bruce. They set was cut extremely short due to the fact that someone kept shutting off there PA system. It was definitely intentional apparently. At first the guys looked at each other and was like "wtf?" but Harris being the MAN! that he is said too keep playing. They did and the power came back on, but this happened about 4 times. Cutting Phantom of the Opera short, Run to the Hills short, Hallowed be thy name short, The Iron Maiden short. I WAS PISSED! They left the stage to come back and do an encore. Bruce came and opened with

"All these so called Ozzy fans are disgracing the event. The reason we do this is for the fvckin people! and the fans that have supported maiden and metal!!"

They then did Running Free and Sanctuary with no problems (PA System wise) Running free was definitely extended with a lot of commentary from Bruce saying stuff like sorry this sh!t was being screwed over by the fans and stuff like that. Then at the end of there last song Bruce was going to say some stuff being pissed already, but guess what happens. HIS MIC gets turned off. Not the PA his MIC! So he can't say anything but is being displayed on the screens around. Then the most annoying voice ever comes over the PA and says

"OZZY OZZY OZZY OZZY OZZY OZZY, muthafvckas, OZZY OZZY OZZY"

and that was being played over and over through the day between acts. So bruce cant say anything so he gives up with the Mic and looks to the crowd and says the words Maiden, Maiden, Maiden, Maiden, i was able to see it because of the Screen, so we all started saying MAiden Maiden Maiden, instead of Ozzy Ozzy Ozzy. Then the wierdest thing happened. The band left definitely upset and dissapointed, and as the stage hands came on to re arrange the set for Sabbath, Sharon Osbourne (Yes ozzy's wife, who is also the Executive Producer of ozzfest ((Or at least the one who runs it))) came on stage with a mic and said.

"Thank you all for coming to this event we appreaciate everyone, the fans, and the CREW! but let me just say that BRUCE DICKINSON IS A PRICK!! A PRICK!! Iron Maiden the band is great, great guys, but bruce is a prick. Thank you all and enjoy the rest of the show."

everyone was in aww. What just happened? I mean given all the sh!t they went through, they STILL put on the best show then all the other bands. Thats amazing. They were faster, better, and rolled through the songs and put on a great show (when the PA wasnt sabotaged.)

I mean i honestly believe that it was all Sabotage, if not that intentional. Theres no way that much crap can happen to the band in only a 40 minute set. they were scheduled for 55, but they were cut short. And also Sharon coming out herself to say bruce is a prick. That basically ruined the night for all the maiden fans. Needless to say a good amount of people had left after maiden, and DURING sabbath. I thought they honestly they (maiden) still did the best show of the day, they were incredible!. Bruce said at the end...

"Don't worry, we WILL BE BACK!!"

i hope so, i love maiden and they were put through some crap. All in all i think there is some sort of beef between Bruce and Ozzy. what i have no idea, but there definitely was some tension. Also if anyone there wants to correct me on some things by all means go ahead, this is only what i remember (tall cans) so go ahead and post away.

I was at that Ozzfest show. Trust me, Maiden weren't booed off. Iron Maiden fans outnumbered Sharon's stupid egg throwers 100 to 30,000. All Bruce had to do was raise his arms and they were silenced by the tons of people chanting "MAIDEN! MAIDEN! MAIDEN!"

Ozzy did show up and Sabbath played an awesome show. I didn't show any disrespect for that. Ozzy is still the man. he didn't sound as bad as I expected at all. It was a great experience.

However, Sharon is a monster. People started saying Iron Maiden were playing to a track because the PA kept turning off. People started leaving for that, not because of Ozzy coming on. Me and my friends knew they weren't playing to a track and were convinced they weren't when the bitch came out and called Bruce a prick. We knew she was behind it.

"Death before dishonor my friends" were Bruce's last fighting words before his mic was turned off, and the Maiden fans knew not to dishonor Black Sabbath.

I keep seeing all over the internet people blaming the US audience.

Let me make this clear:

ALMOST EVERYONE IN THE CROWD BOO'ED SHARON, AND KEPT CHEERING FOR MORE MAIDEN

We had been told for most of the Mainstage that if we didn't chant "OZZY!" loud enough he wouldn't play. Probably untrue and just a way to get the crowd going, but hey, people want to see Black Sabbath. Sabbath put on a great show, and I loved it. Doesn't mean I wanted Iron Maiden off of the stage. There wasn't a single person at that Ozzfest I disliked except Sharon.

yeah for sure. NO ONE BOO'ed maiden. We were pissed at the fact that they were screwed over. Bruce would always come up with something to say about how Maiden has true fans and stuff and the crowd would go crazy! The only time we Booed was when Sharon came out and said the things she did.

Kind of a sad story but his dad was killed by a drunk driver and the night before his dad died, they were rocking out to Piece of Mind. I met his dad only once but used to talk to him on the phone all the time. I've made a personal mission to see Maiden play as a sort of tribute to him. basically steve made fun of ozzy doing "the osbournes", a reality show on MTV in which cameras followed them around 24/7. Steve stated that "We're not a reality show band." So then Sharon Osbourne (Ozzy's wife and head hancho of Ozzfest) came out on stage and called him a prick in front of everyone. So then the **** thowing ensues... the crowd begins to thow ANYTHING they can get their hands on at Iron Maiden

Heres sharons 'official' statement for those who havnt read it:

LAST SHOW FOR MAIDEN

Iron Maiden were chosen for the Ozzfest tour because the Ozzfest committee felt they were a good band, plus the fact that they had not done shows in the U.S. for some time. From day one, Bruce Dickinson started berating Ozzy and belittling the Ozzfest audience. He stated he“didn’t need a reality show to give him credibility”; "we're not just some f*cking reunion band"; and continuously complained about the sound system, saying that when he comes back to America he’ll have a better one. I understand he hasn’t toured in the U.S.in these size venues in a while and no longer understands the political structure of things. Out of 200-plus bands over the last 10 years, he has been the only person who hasn’t had the Ozzfest spirit. He thought he was at a battle of the bands, always making other comments about the other artists.

Might I say, the rest of the band are gentlemen and have a great professional attitude. The crew are absolutely great. But how sad it was, after 10 years, that this little man tried to ruin it for everyone. The bands of Ozzfest don’t even look at Ozzfest as touring, but as its heavy metal summer camp. Bruce is in fact a jealous prick and very envious. None of his tirades were directed at Sabbath, only Ozzy. Steve Harris [Iron Maiden's bassist] personally came to Ozzy in San Bernardino and apologized for Bruce’s behavior this summer, stating that he and the rest of the band were "embarrassed" by their own singer.

It also offended me every night how he took out the English flag in America. There are American boys going to war alongside the English boys every day. How dare he forget the American troops on their home turf. He has had no respect for the American audience he has been playing for, stating in an interview, “When you do the 'hits' tour here [in the U.S.], the audience is smug, and there's a sense of self-satisfaction, like, 'We got what we wanted…I'm looking at an audience that is self-satisfied and happy and fat, and getting what it wants and isn't prepared to get off its ***..”

Before there was Samson there was SABBATH!

Ozzfest 2005 continues on with our summer of fun with the addition of Velvet Revolver. This is where the fun begins…..

I don't think Sharon knows the theme of "The Trooper"

I can't believe they're complaining that he was waving an English flag about instead of an American flag. Maybe he's just proud of the country he was born in and had no intentions of insulting America.

As for what he said I would rather hear what he said the context it was said.

Hes been doing the flag thing on the trooper for 20odd years I think. Its about British troops in a war America had nothing to do with. Saying Bruce should have waved an American flag in the Trooper would be like saying he should be waving the Canadian flag in the Clansman, A song about Scottland.

The Ozzy chanting had been going on ever since they announced Ozzy had showed up which I think was after Mudvayne left the stage. After that the crowd chanted Ozzy after every band came on during the time between band set-ups.

Edit:

The big reason I think Bruce wasn't such a prick like Sharon claims is because he didn't seem to have anything against Ozzy. When he found one of the egg throwers in the audience he looked right at him and yelled, "You are a disgrace of an Ozzy Osbourne fan!" I think he understands all this MTV crap is Sharon's fault.

More conterversy dammit!

The manager of a well-known heavy metal band (*NOT* IRON MAIDEN) who attended this past weekend's Ozzfest show at the Hyundai Pavillion in Devore, California has submitted the following first-hand account of the evening that will surely go down as one of the most shameful moments in recent rock history (NOTE: at his request, the author's identity is being protected by BLABBERMOUTH.NET):

"Saturday night's Ozzfest at the Hyundai Pavillion near Los Angeles was a debacle on so many levels, I am still in shock as I write this. As a fan of many of the bands [Saturday] night, one can only hope this was an isolated incident, but sadly, it most likely wasn't. As many of you have heard already, co-headliners and metal legends IRON MAIDEN were pelted with eggs, bottle caps, beer cups, spit on, had people from the Ozzfest camp talking over the PA during their set, had 'Eddie' delayed from his onstage entrance, had members of the [BLACK LABEL SOCIETY] entourage rush the stage with American flags, and had the PA intentionally turned off over six times, all by the OSBOURNE CAMP.

"While it's still unclear as to the exact reasons why the terrorizing started (rumors abounded as to why, with everything from Bruce calling out Ozzy in the U.K. rock magazine Kerrang! on the widely known fact that Ozzy uses a teleprompter, to various vague references said on stage about a 'reality show' at an Ozzfest stop in Detroit), one thing was very clear: The whole thing stunk, and left me, and nearly all of the 40,000+ heavy metal fans in attendance angered and disappointed. Not that behind the scenes bickering or magazine trash-talking is anything new to rock fans, but the shocking lack of professionalism at one of the largest stops in North America in front of 40,000+ spectators, at the hand of the Osbournes was nothing short of disgusting.

"It all began early in the afternoon, when many side stage bands were openly approached in clear view of everyone backstage by Sharon and Kelly Osbourne to 'join them in throwing eggs at IRON MAIDEN this evening.' All the bands were encouraged to rally the other side-stage bands to do so. Members and/or friends of the hardcore band BURY YOUR DEAD were seen actively trying to encourage other side-stage bands to 'join in the fun.' Thankfully, many side stage bands angrily declined.

"Later that evening, as IRON MAIDEN came on stage, their intro was interrupted by [BLACK LABEL SOCIETY] hanger-on and biker wannabe Big Dave, who was at the soundboard loudly chanting 'Ozzy, Ozzy' over the PA. MAIDEN opened their set and the entire band was pelted from the front row with eggs, beer, beer cups, spit, and various other objects by an Ozzfest-credentialed, bandana-wearing, Osbourne entourage. IRON MAIDEN, ever the professionals, continued through their set, and by the time they launched into their second song, 'The Trooper', Bruce changed into a civil war-era, red coat and began waving a Union Jack — British flag. Then, someone in, or associated with, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY tried to rush the stage waving and American Flag with the words 'Don't **** with Ozzy' scrawled across his bare chest. He was tackled and beaten by MAIDEN crew and promptly thrown off stage.

"As 'The Trooper' ended, frontman Bruce Dickinson, with characteristic spunk, launched into a scathing attack on the people terrorizing his band, calling them 'a sorry excuse for an Ozzy Osbourne fan,' and wondering aloud how, 'three dozen eggs could get snuck into the front row of Ozzfest by people with Ozzfest laminates?' Though he never named names, all in attendance could understand who he was referring to. Nicko McBrain ran up to the front asking Bruce to hold on while he cleaned egg off his drums. He then stated the the next song wouldn't be heard on 'Your local cocksucking corporate radio station, wouldn't be seen on MTV anymore, and sure as hell wouldn't be played on a ****ing reality TV show,' met by a huge roar from the crowd.

"During the song 'Hallowed Be Thy Name', Bruce, after only the first two lines, stopped singing and ran to the front row, firing back at his terrorizers, saying 'That asswipe right there, with the curly hair, the ****ing glasses, and Ozzfest laminate throw his ****ing *** out of here right now. It's gonna take more than eggs to stop IRON MAIDEN, and if it wasn't for a lawsuit, I'd rip your ****ing head off right now, you piece of ****!!!!' He had the various attackers ejected and continued with a blistering version of the song until right before the big sing long at the end, the PA was INTENTIONALLY cut off. When it came back, Bruce launched into another scathing attack saying that they were supposed to play a shorter set than normal today, and only play 55 minutes, but IRON MAIDEN can't drive 55, or play 55, and were going to play our whole ****ing set tonight.

"The band endured six more 'PA cuts,' including having the power to their amps turned off at one point. When the PA would come back on, they would simply launch into the next IRON MAIDEN classic, never missing a beat. Frankly, with every PA cut, the band just got meaner and meaner, playing each new song with an anger and a fire that was at times, simply astonishing to watch. Bruce began the introduction to IRON MAIDEN with a speech about 'Your constitution has something about 'We The People.' Well let me tell you, the only reason we are up here tolerating this bull****, is because of you people. You have been amazing Glen Helen, and there are A LOT of IRON MAIDEN fans here tonight,' eliciting a huge roar from the crowd. He continued, 'It's gonna take more than eggs to stop IRON MAIDEN, NOTHING is going to come between us and our fans, and it will be death before dishonor, this is 'Iron ****ing Maiden',' which was greeted by a thunderous applause. During 'Iron Maiden', longtime MAIDEN mascot Eddie was purposely delayed from making his entrance, making a brief appearance at the end, and one could only wonder as to how. As the band closed there set with a furious version of 'Sanctuary', the PA was again cut only to have Big Dave repeatedly chant 'Ozzy' over the PA, while the band tried to say goodbye to their fans. The now-furious crowd angrily drowned him out with chants of 'MAIDEN, MAIDEN.'

"Then, not 10 seconds after MAIDEN left the stage, Sharon Osbourne walked on stage and predictably, tried to give MAIDEN some fake, half-hearted praise about how they'd like to 'thank IRON MAIDEN,' and what a wonderful band IRON MAIDEN are, and how their crew were 'fantastic,' then sneering, 'But Bruce Dickinson is a prick.' The entire crowd, now fed up with the entire affair, began loudly booing her, pelting her with beer cups, and yelling 'bitch.' She tried to carry on, adding that 'Bruce had disrespected Ozzfest,' only to be drowned out by an ocean of boos, and soaked with beer. She slammed the microphone down and stormed off stage. Many in the crowd, fed up with what they had just witnessed, especially considering that many had come solely for MAIDEN, and paid upwards of $150 to do so, left in droves. SABBATH played to maybe half the audience that was there prior, and seemed stagnate compared to the band preceding them. As a huge fan of SABBATH, I honestly couldn't stand to watch them.

"I've seen IRON MAIDEN probably 10 times in my life, and frankly this was the very best IRON MAIDEN show I've had the pleasure of witnessing. You DON'T want to **** with IRON MAIDEN. The more the Osbournes tried to **** with them, the better they got! IRON MAIDEN was on ****ing overdrive! Considering the amount of terrorizing and intimidation that IRON MAIDEN had to deal with at the hands of the Osbournes and the other side stage and main stage bands participating, they were the consummate professionals. They had the crowd in the palms of their hands, and IRON MAIDEN and Bruce Dickinson proved beyond a shadow of a doubt why they are the greatest metal band on earth right now, and quite possibly, the classiest, too.

"The Osbournes are drunk with power. Shame on them, and shame on ANY of the bands that participated in the terrorizing and intimidation. It was disgusting display, that NO BAND should have had to endure, but especially a legend like IRON MAIDEN. That fact that it happened in front of 40,000+ people, at a Clear Channel-sponsored event, while Hyundai Pavilion Security turned a blind eye and let the Osbourne camp pelt one of the main headlining bands with eggs, beer, and spit, was simply inexcusable.

"I will proudly be attending next year's MAIDEN fest, and as much as I hate to say it, I can't bring myself to spend another dime on the Osbournes.

"Ozzfest, hang your head in shame."

Wow. That messes with things a bit.

Whats their best CD? I want to buy one.
if you live in the uk - look in kerrang 1071 - they had a double page on Maiden to Buy/download.

ill give you the rough countdown

Essential:: Powerslave
Follow-up Purchase:: The Number Of The Beast
Recomeded:: Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
Wild Card(also good):: Dance of Death
Avoid:: Virtual XI

I also recomend Edward the great or Best of the Beat if you want a good selection of classic songs. Or Piece of Mind.

Yeah, I'd put Piece of mind over 7th son, but that's just my preference.

No one knows how many parts there are gonna be. I reckon they'll have one from Powerslave to NPFD and then one from FOTD to BNW... or something like that...

with enough fideling/case flipping you can get Powerslave and NPFD to carry on in the classic series

me reckons that the next era dvd thing will be from powerslave to fear ie. ending when bruce leaves. then the next dvd will cover up until dance of death. (hopefully by then they will have released more albums :)

is that this week's Kerrang you're talking about? there was an interview with Bruce last week, but i couldn't be bothered to buy the mag just for that.

i think the next DVD should do Powerslave ----> Fear of the Dark as well (and with a full World Slavery Tour show on it) , then you get a Blaze DVD and then a Reunion DVD.

i don't think it should be from the world slavery tour seeing as theres live after death. perhaps somewhere on tour.
