go to the YSI thread and find the Dark Tranquility cover of 22 accacia avenue, it sounds awesome done by a melo-death band.
I was listening to that earlier, absolutely awesome, I love dark tranquility, I never knew they covered that though.

Anyone know when the tickets for the 2nd of september gig will be on sale?

Is it the original Line up of Sabbath with Ozzy?

Ive seen Ozzy/Sabbath a total of 10 times now (i know i know, **** us americans lol) and its like ive only seen "two" actual concerts........same setlist every bloody time save a song or two.

FrailandBedazzled1979
07-09-2005, 04:59 AM
quote from Geezer about how much they all dread doing the same show due to Ozzy.

"I mean, I think we're all desperate to do new stuff," Geezer said of the thorny subject of the SABBATH live setlist. "But Mr. Osbourne won't do it. We're dying to do new stuff. I'm almost dreading playing the same 10 songs again, so hopefully we're going to talk Ozzy into doing some things." -GZR 05'

Artistic reasons, I suppose. I always believe a cover should add a personal touch to the song, rather than just a carbon copy of the original.

i don't know if i'll be able to get any Italian wine, because i'll have to carry it for the rest of the walk, and as my bag's already 30 pounds, i just want to pick some up at the end of the last day. although, being in France but near the border, they may have some Italian wine.

Well, they've done Genghis Khan, Alexander The Great, a Coleridge poem (Rime of the Ancient Mariner), Dune (against Frank Herbert's permission), and the British Air Force in WWII even more than Roger Waters-era Pink Floyd..,

And yet I'd still have to say the Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner is the wierdest lyrical topic they've ever made into an epic song.

Lord Abortion
07-16-2005, 01:56 PM
The Dune thing was a bastard, Steve rang Herbert's publisher and If memory serves, he said: "sorry, Frank herbert doesn't like Rock bands, especially not bands like Iron Maiden"
apparently they were going to call the song Dune and have a spoken word quote at the start aswell. The book is fantastic though...

Maveryck
07-16-2005, 02:01 PM
"No. Because Frank Herbert doesn't like rock bands, particularly heavy rock bands, and especially rock bands like Iron Maiden".

That's probably the most uncharitable statement ever... but it's balanced out by Patrick McGoohan's willingness to co-operate with Iron Maiden regarding the song 'The Prisoner':

The conversation between McGoohan and Smallwood allegedly went:

McGoohan: "What did you say the name of the band was again?"
Smallwood: "Iron Maiden"
McGoohan: "A rock band, you say... do it!"

(quotes from Wikipedia, controversy from Iron Maiden )

The weirdest Maiden song is Quest for Fire, because it's historically inaccurate. Most of their stuff is fairly authentic, or at least the imagery makes up for it. But having dinosaurs and cavemen living together in a song that's also pretty boring by Maiden standards is just criminal.

This has nothing to do with the current conversation, but I'd just like to say that I saw Maiden last night at the Ozzfest in Hartford. In all honesty, it was the most incredible live show I have ever seen. Everything was on point, which is what I expected from such a legendary band. The PA was ###### up for wrathchild, but the rest of the show more than compensated, especially Hallowed Be Thy Name and Run to the Hills. If it had just been Maiden alone the whole day would have been worth it. I can now die fulfilled.

We are doing the Live version of Hallowed, I don't think I can do the Whammy bar thing at the end like Dave does though :upset:

I don't think there is a Bass tab for Tattooed Millonaire.

I don't really know, Gur said that we should do the live Version, but since he's disappeared, I'd say do the RiR version.

I don't have a Whammy bar at all :upset:

I thought it was pretty good compared to many lists. Rolling Stone magazine doesn't even seem to acknowledge Maiden's existence, for one. Their top 500 albums list had no Iron Maiden at all (or Rush)!

Got a Vintage Metal Axxe, it looks really cool. I'll get a picture of it next week at Band Practice.

To Tame A Land
Phantom of the Opera
Rime of the Ancient Mariner (can't complete this one :()

Rolling Stones mag is truly rubbish. But check out this list:

http://www.digitaldreamdoor.com/pages/best_albums-metal.html

Maiden got No. 3,6,7,11,22,39,52 and 54. NOTB and Powerslave are my fav Maiden albums, so I was happy with those ones being up there.
I do think Cowboys from Hell should've been higher. It's nice to see Appetite for Destruction, a Halford album and Painkiller up there.
Talking about Halford, here's a discussion. Do you guys think Bruce Dickinson would take the cake as the greatest metal singer ever? Or Halford? They're both quite awesome.

YDload

I think Halford has more range and for that reason, he may be a slightly better singer. But I like the band that Bruce is in a lot more, especially the rhythm section ;)

I've never heard much Halford, but in my opinion, Dickinson is the best singer in the metal world. His voice has a lot of range, but it's also got a LOT of power to back it up.

I agree with YDload.

Anyway my band is gonna cover The Trooper in drop c. The song is actually in c so it'll sound the same just the verse and prechorus will be alot heavier.

The Trooper isn't in any one key. It's more like the classic E-D-C progression that Maiden is known for. Or however "Paranoid" goes because there are a lot of similarities there.
