Maybe Blood Brothers, or Mercenary.
i doubt blood brothers was written for Blaze's voice, i just can't imagine him singing it. possibly The Nomad, or the mercenary?

how we can figure how blood brothers was written for Blaze or not, when did steves dad die?
vashts80
06-27-2005, 02:58 PM
It's one of these:
Blood Brothers
The Mercenary
Dream of Mirrors
The Nomad
The Thin Line Between Love and Hate
I'm willing to bet that it was TTLBLAH or Dream of Mirrors (DoM, imo, is written simillarily to The Clansman)
dream of mirrors sound most Blaze-like i suppose...it follows on from the longer songs that they started to write with Blaze: the Clansman, the angel and the gambler, don't look to the eyes of a stranger, sign of the cross, the unbeliever.

the only problem with that is that that IMO the Di'anno and Blaze songs sound better at Rock in Rio than on the albums, although that album is a good way to get into Maiden.
i would recommend: Powerslave, Number of the Beast, Somewhere in Time, seventh son of a seventh son and piece of mind as the 5 albums to get first.

That's pretty cool, only things I'd suggest to you are:
Use your neck pickup, it sounds more meaty. If you are using your Neck Pickup, play around with your tone knobs until it sounds less tinny.
There's a tad too much reverb for my taste, it sounds too weird.
Good job with everything else, I find BNW a particularly hard song to play, especially the solos. I'm impressed. :thumb:

my favourite live album by them is the Beast Over Hammersmith. best live sound of any of their albums, bruce is much better than he was on live after death, only problem with it is that it has a setlist limited to the first 3 albums, notb hadn't been released at that point so there's not one person shouting along with the title track intro or singing along to run to the hills. and also, as far as i know you can only get it with the eddie's archives which costs around £100, if they even sell it anymore. but you do get the b-sides and bbc tapes aswell.

Apparently with the Beast over Hammersmith album, there were problems with the sound and the Band weren't too happy about it, that being the reason why they haven't released the full concert on DVD or video...

so i guess you guys have heard what nicko said in some french magazine that the new album will be released next year and that it will be concept
so what do you expect from it?
to be honest i dont expect any change in sound, maybe one or two slower songs like journeyman
what i would like to see however is if its gonna be a concept album i would like to see songs being linked together with more than just a story
i would like to see continous music
one songs continues where the previous one ended

lyrics that will hold the entire meaning of the song in them

well instrumentals cant have chorus's cause they have no lyrics
listen to lets say careful with that axe eugene by pink floyd

imo its not the same thing if a part of music repeats itself and if part of lyrics keeps repeating itself

Of course the non-verbal singing thing can be a chorus. Especially if it's "The Trooper" we're talking about.
Anyway, today I finally heard an Iron Maiden song on the radio! It was nothing special, just "Run to the Hills," but it was the first time I can ever remember hearing them on the air.

So they're only playing stuff from their first four albums at Reading. Slightly annoying, because I won't hear Paschendale, No More Lies, Blood Brother or The Wicker Man (or anything from the Blaze period.)
On the plus side, Sanctuary, Iron Maiden, Run To The Hills, Children of The ****ed, Hallowed Be Thy Name and Number Of The Beast will almost certainly feature, along with other cool stuff like Phantom Of The Opera and The Prisoner.

virtual XI is my fave maiden album. its really jsut all the bruce fanboys who hate blaze cos they all think maiden is about run to the hills and number of the beastblaze has a great voice however his time with maiden was set to be doomed before it even started
as good as he is he's no bruce
he did ****ty job singing most of bruce era songs
his era did create some of my fave songs like lord of the flies & the clansman, sign of the cross...
however at those stage albums had way too many fillers. i dont think it was his fault
fear of the dark had many fillers in it
virtual xi & the x factor had fillers in them
and to be honest dod and bnw have fillers on them but thats not the point
now we know who writes most of iron maiden's stuff - steve harris
so you cant just punish steve for his lack of inspiration which lead to these fillers. if you kick steve out - no more maiden
its always easier to blame the new guy
when you add the fact that he slaughtered bruce era songs there you have it imo the reason why blaze had to go
bruce maybe brought in some fresh dose of isnpiration but things practically remained the same
only now they can tour and get money out of that and not focus so much on writting new stuff
steve lacks inspiration and he was never too fond of bruce's writting

indeed, but they are written for different voices, the Dianno ones he is better at because obviously he has more practice, you only hear bruce sing three or four Blaze-era songs(he did an excellent version of lord of the flies last year.)

Blayze...ive tried for almost 6 years now to enjoy those two albums and only a handful of songs stick out to me. Its not just him, its the entire band. The era i think was just unoriginal and the entire group did not play at their best. Davey's leads wernt as wonderful (on BNW and DOD though hes ripping!) and Steve repeated old bass lines over and over, just wasnt anything unique about them. Blayze and Janick wrote alot together, and Janick's gift to the band is his rhythem guitar and riff writing (his leads however....welll lol) and i think Steve was burnt out of ideas and refused to let Maiden die even if it meant being a subpar version of what it had been. Blayze had to low a register to be a Maiden vocalist, although he put all he had into the group...it really shows how Maiden isnt Maiden without Bruce and Adrian.
Adrian is an amazing songwriter, he wrote half of 7th son on his own i think.

Yeah...I remember after being used to the RiR version of The Clansman, hearing the album version. Blazes voice just didn't have anything behind it on the "No! No we can't let them take anymore!" bit, whereas thats the highlight of the song for me on the RiR version.

I've heard that Iron Maiden may come to Hammersmith on the 2nd of September - not on the site yet, but yeah!!
they're playing a gig on the 2nd to raise money for Clive Burr i think.
Iron Maiden play special fund raising gig for former drummer Clive Burr
In 2002 the members of Iron Maiden were shocked to learn that their former drummer, Clive Burr was suffering from MS. They played three nights in March at Brixton Academy in his honour, donating the £250,000 plus profits from the concerts and merchandising into a newly formed Clive Burr Multiple Sclerosis Trust Fund. The fund also received generous donations from the record company EMI and publisher BMG Music from the commercial single releases of Run To The Hills and Number of The Beast (which leapt into the UK charts at No 3 earlier this year). There were kind donations from all over the world of Heavy Metal, and tremendous support from the fans through numerous fund raising initiatives and very generous individual contributions.
Three years on, the money raised has helped enormously to provide treatment and support and to improve the quality of Clive’s life. For example: the Trust has helped Clive to secure his house, funded specialist treatments in this country and with experts in Europe and the USA, has provided specialised equipment, assisted with transport and travel and helped Clive with his living expenses.
The Trust was also able to help some other MS sufferers who have long standing connections with the band by assisting with the provision of vehicles specially adapted to carry wheelchairs.
The Clive Burr MS Fund needs replenishing if it is to continue to ease and improve the quality of Clive’s life, and others. To help do this, Iron Maiden will stage a very special benefit performance at Hammersmith Odeon on Friday 2nd September. The show, featuring songs from their first four albums (Iron Maiden, Killers, The Number Of The Beast and Piece of Mind) will by then have toured Europe and North America playing to almost one million delighted fans and this will be the final date of the tour and the very last time some of the songs in the set will played live by the band.
All the profits from the show and the Merchandising will be donated to the Trust and can then lift the fund back into action. All tickets will be £40 – and there will be no comps – not even for band families or management!!
Manager, Rod Smallwood commented “We think our fans will fully understand the need to charge a slightly higher price for this special gig – there are many things the Trust needs to do such as modifications to Clive’s house to improve wheelchair access that would make Clive more comfortable. We were really pleased that Hammersmith Apollo was available as the band have a lot of history there and great memories. It’s a terrific venue to play from a fan’s perspective and will be huge contrast from our Headline appearance at the massive Reading Festival on Sunday 28th August. We just hope they will reopen the old backstage bar! The first time we played Hammersmith Odeon (as it was previously known) was on 14th March 1980 supporting Judas Priest just before the first album came out. The first headline appearance was during the ‘Killers’ tour in 1981, and of course Clive was with us on those occasions. In total we have played there 21 times including a succession of 6 sold out shows during the 1986 ‘Somewhere on Tour’. So it’s a very appropriate place to play a gig for Clive and to end a tour based on our first four albums. ”

You sound like my best friend. She has been in the first row of every concert she's been to. She pushed her way into the barricades for Slayer and Killswitch Engage at the Jagermiester Tour.

I've never seen Maiden..If it were up to me and if my parents would let me, I'd go to Quebec right now and get ready for Maiden July 16th!
my friends, brothers, girlfriends, uncle (i think) met maiden in a pub but didn't know who they were. when he asked them what they did for a living he was extremely embarrased that he didn't recognize them.
go to the YSI thread and find the Dark Tranquility cover of 22 accacia avenue, it sounds awesome done by a melo-death band.

Dammit, YSI is slow.
On the topic of Covers, my Band need a Maiden song to cover. I don't know which one to do as there are so many kick arse ones. I just need one song that hasn't been covered before and is very death metally....I don't know which ones to do
EDIT: That 22 Acacia Avenue is kinda funky...

Fear of the Dark has a couple VERY outstanding tracks (Fear of the Dark, Afraid to Shoot Strangers, etc.,) , but the rest is quite mediocre
