Which Iron Maiden album is best for pumping you up? Like, you can listen to the whole thing and be excited throughout? Right now I'm really digging the self-titled album just for all the energetic songs (except Remember Tomorrow, ugh).
Yes, I agree with everything there. Phantom of the Opera is bloody awesome for that. Charlotte the Harlot is one of my fav Maiden songs for some reason. And I hate Remember Tomorrow.

NICKO’S GOLF BALL
A fine summer evening, a breeze in the air
We see on a golf course our drummer fair
He lays down his golf ball and takes a big swing
What a jolly good shot, how far flies the thing!
His eyes follow after and notice the fall
He crosses the lawn to again strike the ball
It seems that his ball went into the hedges
Hmm, no, it’s not there he only gets scratches
He turns up each leaf, be it large or just small
But still he’s unlucky, no sight of his ball.
He gropes in the grass, peeks behind a large tree
Scans all the bushes, but his ball he can’t see.
Silently cursing, he climbs on a wall
But **** my old boots, he can’t find his ball.
In despair he goes poking out in the lake
After all it’s his golf ball that is here at stake.
All dripping wet he decides to crawl
Into the berries to find that **** ball.
Nick scratches his head and looks all around
To the left and the right, no ball can be found
To his dismay, he can’t really recall
Whereto exactly he shot that ‘Kin ball.
Nightfall comes quickly, first dusk and then dawn
Moat people are sleeping, but Nick scans the lawn
He searches through summer he searches through fall
The search is in vain; he can’t find his ball!
At last, all exhausted, he falls to his knees
He’s ready to give up, when guess what he sees?
He stares in amazement and cries; “Bless my soul!”
Now would you believe it, the ball’s in the hole!!!!

Technically good, but maybe a lack of feeling? I think I missed a few strong vibratos, maybe a crazy bend or two. That said, you played the solo's without a backing, and that makes the performance even more impressive.
I preferred the second solo, just for the record.

Sanctuary Records in coordination with Sony/BMG distribution are releasing The Essential Iron Maiden on 12th July - full press release with track listing below. The Essential series of compilations highlight the major artists on the Sony label. The series has generic black and white portrait cover art for all the series and is marketed in parallel to and often in different areas from frontline albums. Sony are very keen to add Maiden to the list of superstar artists already participating. This is for US release only as Maiden are only distributed by Sony/BMG in the USA and they see this as a Maiden career summary for the general American rock fan who may not yet be into Maiden and/or Metal and see this as a good way of introducing them. We think this is something we should all welcome, more inductees to the world of Metal and Maiden
Its probably worth mentioning here that for the rest of the world EMI have updated Edward the Great, which will be merged into the shops as stocks are reordered. This revised version has simply been brought up to date to represent the band by including 'Wildest Dreams' and 'Rainmaker' from 'Dance of Death' plus a new live version of 'Fear Of The Dark' (from the forthcoming Death On The Road double album which EMI release on 29th August) in place of 'The Clairvoyant', 'Infinite Dreams' and 'Holy Smoke.'
Apart from a new catalogue number the artwork remains unchanged.
PRESS RELEASE:
IRON MAIDEN TO RELEASE 2-CD COMPILATION 'THE ESSENTIAL IRON MAIDEN' VIA SANCTUARY ON JULY 12, 2005
Legendary Metal band Iron Maiden will release the career-spanning, two-CD compilation 'The Essential Iron Maiden' through Sanctuary Records USA on July 12, 2005.
This 27-song collection is a stellar addition to the critically acclaimed, top-selling 'Essential' best-of series.
'The Essential Iron Maiden' features some of the greatest heavy metal music ever recorded. Iron Maiden have had huge worldwide impact these past 25 years thanks to all-time classic albums like 'Iron Maiden,' 'Killers,' 'The Number Of The Beast,' 'Piece Of Mind,' 'Powerslave,' 'Live After Death,' 'Somewhere In Time,' 'Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son,' 'No Prayer For The Dying,' 'Fear Of The Dark,' 'The X Factor,' 'Virtual XI,' 'Brave New World,' 'Dance Of Death' and other live albums.
Every studio album and lineup of Iron Maiden is represented here. The package also includes sleeve notes from noted journalist Lonn Friend.
A sneak preview of the upcoming double live DVD and CD 'Death On The Road' is provided thanks to the inclusion of 'Iron Maiden' from this CD/DVD. The current, longtime lineup of vocalist Bruce Dickinson, guitarist Dave Murray, guitarist Adrian Smith, guitarist Janick Gers, bass guitarist Steve Harris and drummer Nicko McBrain recorded and filmed 'Death On The Road' in Germany in 2003 on the 'Dance Of Death' tour.
The songs on 'The Essential Iron Maiden' are:
Disc One - Paschendale, Rainmaker, The Wicker Man, Brave New World, Futureal, The Clansman, Sign Of The Cross, Man On The Edge, Be Quick Or Be Dead, Fear Of The Dark (Live), Holy Smoke, Bring Your Daughter... To The Slaughter and The Clairvoyant.
Disc Two - The Evil That Men Do, Wasted Years, Heaven Can Wait, 2 Minutes To Midnight, Aces High, Flight Of Icarus, The Trooper, The Number Of The Beast, Run To The Hills, Wrathchild, Killers, Phantom Of The Opera, Running Free (Live) and Iron Maiden (Live).
Iron Maiden will be touring North America again this summer as co-headliners with Black Sabbath on Ozzfest 2005, the 10th anniversary of the enormously popular festival.
That Essential album probably has the worst cover art ever dreamt of by Maiden.
No one here needs it though I assume.

sign of the cross is my favourite blaze era song by far, although there's not much for it to compete with. i can't really see a religious connection, although i've never really looked the lyrics much. only problem with it for me is that it seems to drag on in places.

Hey yeah, "Angels and Insects" does sound a bit like Prowler! If just for that vocal melody.
But also, Papa Roach ripped off the Green Day song "Brain Stew" when they made their first hit "Last Resort." Just thought I'd throw it out, that not all of their influences are so great. ;)

Yeah, I don't think Derek Riggs has done any of the artwork since NPFD...
Hmmm... well, this artist seems to be the same as Brave New World.
I think Virtual XI, X-Factor and DoD all have the same artist.
Derek was the best though. If you walked into a record store, you could instantly pick out the Maiden albums.

I keep forgetting to do it, I've done it now.

No kidding. It looks cool on my shirt, but the actual album cover looks completely amateurish. Like something a local band would release.

Derek did the sky for the BNW cover (the giant floating eddie head), but a different artist did the lower half. He also did the artwork for Real Live and Real Dead ones

Both Di'annio and baley have very different voices from bruce...
sings very different - his voice is far more "gruff" and punky, and hence gave Maiden a more rough and punky feel. Check out "Running Free", "Killers" and "Sanctuary".
I think both singers have their merits - Di'Anno wouldn't have fit the latter Maiden songs as well as Dicinson, and vice versa
