I wouldn't say I'm a rap fan. As a genre I wouldn't listen to it, but The Streets and Eminem both do some very good stuff. 50 Cent, So Solid Crew, etc... only do really meaningless stuff for me.

I guess that would make me a fan of white rap.

I bought The Ultimate Pogues the other day...it's really good...I might have to cover Sally McLennanne with my band. Is that a crime?

To tell you the truth, I don't think Cliff Burton is that good. I was playing that Bass solo song like 3 weeks after I got my Bass, the bends did sound a little off though.

I've only just started to get Steves Gallop rhythm mastered. :D

I'm a bassist also but i'm not that good from the way u say it u sound really good :thumb:

But a lot of bassists could. I don't find any of the early Metallica songs very difficult to play on bass, although my Fender Jazz doesn't have enough frets to play the solo in "Orion," it's definitely possible.

Steve > Cliff. This is not debatable!

I think that Steve Harris is definitely better than Cliff Burton, both skill wise and influentially. Harris made the bass a lot more important than it previously was in metal. Also, I think Cliff Burton is a horribly overrated bassist and this is coming from someone who likes both Iron Maiden and Metallica. I'd like someone to give me a reason why Cliff Burton was one of the best bassists ever because I think that he is undoubtedly a good bassist, but I don't think he is anything more.

Maybe I'll have to put Burton and Newsted in the same poll to divide the fanboys .

6.) Powerslave
7.) Can I Play With Madness
8.) The Trooper (with 3 guitarists + bassist)
9.) Charlotte the Harlot or Phantom of the Opera (I like them both a lot)
10.) The Number of the Beast

One thing I was thinking about. Apparently, Nicko used a double-pedal on Face in the Sand, right? It doesn't sound like a double-pedal at all, and if it is, it's hella slow. The chorus of The Wickerman was much faster than that. :\

GurS
05-08-2005, 06:34 PM
the problem wasn't speed - it's stamina. He couldn't keep that up for 4 minutes solid, don;t be silly - could you?

vashts80
05-08-2005, 07:08 PM
I don't understand that either...he did it all the time with other songs like The Wickerman, albeit with intervals, but still..if I was going at it for 4 minutes solid, I probably could keep it up if I worked out my legs for a few weeks, but I'm no Nicko either.

I always liked Blaze's vocals. Although Bruce is the voice of Iron Maiden that's why Virtual XI and the X Factor weren't so popular.

However I liked Virtual XI alot it has alot of nice songs (Futureal, Lightning strikes Twice, the Clansman, The Educated Fool, Don't look into the Eyes of a Stranger, and Como estais Amigos), I haven't really read a positive comment on this album, so that's why I think its underrated, I actually really liked it IMO.

I've always felt Bruce makes Blazes vocals sound really weak (compare the RiR version of The Clansman to the album version). I guess that whole 1994-1999 era for Maiden will always feel like dark days for Maiden in my mind, because I'm mostly a Bruce and Adrian fan.

Granted, Dave, Steve and Nicko are all amazing, it's not what i listen for in the band (except now Dave...he's grown on me)

Yeah, I've got Rock AM Ring. It's awesome but I agree about the mastering. By the way, Bruce holds that note for 33 seconds. I timed it haha. And it's not just 33 seconds. It's 33 good seconds and he finishes it off with a nice bit of vibrato. I've always though of Bruce Dickinson as the best singer ever besides Freddie Mercury, but now I'm starting to think he might even be better. I'll have to listen to more Queen to compare them.

A girl in the year below me I'm friends with walked past me and held up a piece of paper with his autograph on it.

That's cool, cause I'm 17 year old male but I'm really short - like 5 foot 2 or 3 and I don't think I'm going to grow much more. Is Dickinson really that short? He looks taller onstage. Meanwhile, I seriously wouldn't be surprised if old Dio was 5'2.

To revive the whole mastering debate...(no puns should be made lest Eddie rapes you in your sleep)...the RiR DVD isn't brilliantly mastered, but the CD is much better. Lots of crowd noise sounds awesome.

right... lots of topic changes

1. gur, it's alright if you like madonna- I'm a bit less forgiving about you being a streets fan though

2. there is no recording of childhood's end live

3. BLAZE -when two worlds collide is excellent, he really is awesome

4. a funny thing was, I was standing, waiting for cradle to come on when I went to see them last month and had a discussion about who is smaller between dani and dio, we came to no conclusion- both are ver' small

5. never really been into pantera... seem to be O.K though, I dunno if Ydload really hates him or he is just sick of the fact that people can't just accept he died and stop going on about it...

then again Kurt Kobain died in 94 and some haven't accepted that yet

Ha ha, people actually said that? What an idiot. Also, I don't like "michael jackass," I think it's pretty clear who my favorite band is by my presence in this thread.

The Dimebag avatar is just to make people mad. I think Pantera was a good band and that Dime was a great guitarist, but people need to get over his death. I know some of them will say "Well what if you were related to Dimebag?" Well I'm not, and neither are you.

The Wickerman is easy, so is run to the hills and maybe Where Eagles Dare.

A beating is in store if you use a pick though. *shakes fist*

Run to the Hills is tricky in the bridge section, freakin' two-finger triplets. Revelations is pretty easy but it sounds impressive (as long as you have a better tone than Steve did on the album).

It's a pity he will never find a drummer to play WED with him though

I'm not even going to attempt it...

yeah I will personally give him a beating if he uses a pick

I know where he lives... :p
