I thought Daves was first, then Adrian, then 'Blood is falling like the rain...' and then Janick. It's the way that they play that gives it away for me. I always use paschendale as my example when explaining the 3 different types. First one: Very hammer on and pull off based, a few triplets thrown in = Dave, Second: A bit of wah, kind of awkward, that thing where you start low and go up = Adrian, Third one = Bends right at the 3rd fret region, kinda sloppy = Janick.

I don't know that much about keys, everything I know about is from playing Maiden songs and finding out what key they play in.

Nah...Jannick=cheesy, Dave=Jazzy, Adrian=psycho

As a topic of discussion, without reading Run To The Hills, who do you think would win a fight out of all them:

Adrian "Psychotic" Smith?

Steve "Oi-you-don't-mess-with-me" Harris

Jannick "I'm-already-butt-ugly-so-I-don't-care-what's-sticking-out-of-that-baseball-bat" Jers

Bruce "I-do-everything" Dickenson

Nicko "Drummer-'nuff-said" McBrain

Dave "Smile!" Murrey

Who would win?

Who would lose?

Post!

Answer according to RTTH=

Dave!!!

He used to be invlolved in all the gang fighting that happened in his area, so handles himself best.

Bruce went to private school, but then again, he is a world class fencer and he did piss in his headteachers dinner once...

Nagagamiman11

actually janick runs alot during solos but he has to learn how to turn his guitar up lol or unless he does it on purpose so you can't hear his mistakes while he's running lol

I ripped my Piece of Mind enhanced CD to my computer so I can listen to "Revelations" or "The Trooper" (among others) whenever I'm talking about them in this thread too! I also went to the CD's multimedia section and found out that there's a video for "The Trooper!" Now I know that the solos are Adrian-then-Dave instead of the other way around (which is what they normally do).

He was Paul Di'Anno and I think he was kicked out because he was constantly drunk all the time or something like that. Not totally sure though. He's a pretty good singer, but I still prefer Bruce.

I learned Fear of the Dark and The Clansman, they weren't overly difficult, except for the FOTD solo.

Now I'm doing Aces High and it's a bit more tricky than the others. Quite a bit actually, but I'm getting it.

So what are some other Easy, Intermediate and Difficult Maiden songs on guitar?

I'd say Hallowed be Thy Name is up there in Intermediate-Difficult.

So what are some other Easy, Intermediate and Difficult Maiden songs on guitar?

I'd say Hallowed be Thy Name is up there in Intermediate-Difficult.

HBTN is one of the easiest songs I've ever played on Guitar, but I'd class it as intermediate, since it can get quite confusing unless you know the song backwards, forwards and up and down...

TWN is easiest, solo is tricky, but just add some shred and everyones happy.

Afraid to shoot Strangers is one of my favourites songs to play, I'd give that an Intermediate level since it has some awkward triplets in there.

Aces High intro is impossible, I just can't get it to work... :upset:

The Thin line Between Love and Hate is surprisingly easy, it's easily my second fave song to play.

The Trooper, easy as pie...Sextuplet riff is a bit awkward, but after that it's easy, Solos are the easiest ever done by Maiden (except for Children of the Damned.

Infinite Dreams, is easily an advanced song, solely because of that clean first few minutes, it's insane, can't get my head around it. The rest isn't too bad.

Wasted Love, pretty easy, solos good to play.

Blood Brothers, another easy song. Daves solo is a tad tricky though.

Sign of the Cross, easy song after you've got the verse rhythm. Riffs aren't that hard, be can be awkard, Solos are a bit hard, so just tap away if you can't get it right.

Dream of Mirrors is quite hard for during the acoustic verse bit. Pinkies aren't supposed to do that sort of pull off :upset:

Iron Maiden...'nuff said. It's hard to find a good tab, but after you've got it, 'tis easy as walking.

Killers, is interesting, I've been playing it for about a year and I still haven't perfected the Harmonic Gallop jobby. Other then that, it's fairly straight forward.

Revealations, another easy-ish song, Solos are the hardest bit. The Acoustic bit is awkward, but other then that, it's 'kin amazing.

Flight of Icarus is harder then it looks, the power chord slides are extremely tricky, I can't play the chorus, it makes me weep.

Dance of Death, No More Lies, Paschendale are pretty easy, Solos aren't that bad, but Paschendales solo is a bitch, C# is a key that shouldn't be dabbled in.

Journeyman is probably the easiest song Maiden have ever done, though the electric version is a different story, since there are not tabs and I can't quite get it by ear.

Losfer Words is full of easy riffs, and has my favourite riff (the bit with the harmonies), simple stuff.

Well that's all the songs I could think of...

I've gotten down...Run to the Hills, Brave New World, Metallica's Whiplash, For Whom the Bell Tolls and Master of Puppets (up to the 3.30 or so interlude) as well as Slayer's Raining Blood.

:x

Edit: My favorite part of RiR is probably during FotD when Bruce is riding the camera across the stage, that's amazing.

Edit II: Also on RiR, on HBTN, the final "yeaaahh" is held for 28 seconds. That's amazing. I could only go for about 10, and that's without making my voice vibrate like his does.

Well I've only been playing about 8 months. Hallowed Be Thy Name I don't find terribly hard, just that some of the riffs have a lot of pull offs and what not, I find it a bit confusing at first, the solo seems kinda fast too.

Aces High, yea the intro is tricky to get it sounding exactly right, and also theres a riff in the pre-chorus which I find **** hard to play at the same speed with the song. The solo has a lot of fancy pull off stuff, but I'm getting the hang of it, I want to learn more stuff with hammer ons and pulloffs anyway, cause I think I could be better there.

I'd better explain this- the drum teacher was beng an idiot and making me play like someone who had never played a flam before! and making me play monotonous pointless sequences of flams. admittedly I was appalling drum-wise yesterday but sometimes I just have an off day- I went home and played stuff fine without messing up but I seem to play a hell of a lot worse in a drum lesson than on my own which is odd - slightly nervous i suppose

Yeah sounds like nerves, I have the same problem. Whenever I go into a guitar shop (when it's full) and I have a fancying for a new guitar, I try it out and I just freeze. My Vibrato goes to hell, my hands shake slightly and my timing goes completely out. I think that's because all the people stop and stare at someone who is trying a guitar out... :upset:

I was looking at getting Rock In Rio (DVD) or The Early Days, and I couldn't decide, so I called my friend up who is a maiden freak and I was all like "Hey man, Rock In Rio or The Early Days?" So yeah, it's pretty cool..I have a bit more respect for Paul now..before I thought he was kinda just weird but now he's pretty cool in my book. He looks extremely different now though. Only sad part about that DVD is that Janick isn't in it becuase he joined later on..Got to see Nicko Though :D

sweet, i saw them in Newcastle, at the metro arena (i think it was still the telewest arena back then though). absoloutely amazing show, i was about 10 12 rows from the front.
I havn't got to see Maiden yet. They don't really come to Canada so it sucks..I think the last time they came was BNW tour maybe..

Wow, nice. I was front row. =D !! Right in front of Janick most the time at the right side of the stage, it was immense! I dunno if the set list differed from venue to venue, but mines was rather entertaining! Here's the lot.

1. Wildest Dreams
2. Wrathchild
3. Can I Play With Madness
4. The Trooper
5. Dance Of Death
6. Rainmaker
7. Brave New World
8. Paschendale
9. Lord Of The Flies
10. No More Lies (Eddie-reaper between H's and Jan's solos)
11. Hallowed Be Thy Name
12. Fear Of The Dark
13. Iron Maiden
ENCORES:
14. Journeyman (acoustic)
15. The Number Of The Beast
16. Run To The Hills

Luckily I had the setlist before the gig. =)

Yeah I know, the exact same happened! I liked Bruce's outfit for Dance Of Death. The only setback of our gig was the PA packed in during the start of Paschendale! It sounded like a gun shot, everyone was in chaos.

Not long, I'd say around a minute. Apprently it just started wrong or something.

Aw I wish I was going to Reading or Leeds, I'd do anything to see Maiden again! Can't go to Download either. =(

Yup. Are they not recording this winter? Have you heard Bruce's new album? I dont think its as good as his previous ones, but my fave track has to be Abduction.

Bringing up Early Days, don't you think that all of the former members of Maiden look like old farts? I can't imagine them still in Maiden.

yeh, it will be interesting to see what it will be like, as on dance of death they kind of...mellowed out a bit, IMO.

04-25-2005, 04:04 PM
yeah, although still a good album I thought.

Josh
04-25-2005, 04:06 PM
yeh, the guitar work was great, although i didn't really like how it was mixed, i preferred the mix from the older albums because you can hear the bass better :)

and i suppose now they will have to tone down the music, as Bruce can't reach the notes he used to be able to :(

x_Evilized_x
04-25-2005, 04:13 PM
Yeah. The older albums had a better sound bass wise.

I hope they dont. Bruce still has a strong voice I guess, but regardless, I think they'll produce another great Maiden album. They've yet to produce an album that disappoints me.

Josh
04-25-2005, 04:17 PM
yeh, same here, although IMO Fear of the dark isn't one of the strongest albums ever, but still good. theres a few albums i still haven't heard though (X-factor, virtual XI, no prayer for the dying of the studio albums, only live album i have heard is rock in rio, and i have edward the great of the compilations)

I kinda like Fear of the Dark, I've been listening to it a lot recently. It's got a lot of songs I like. Be Quick or Be Dead, From Here to Eternity, Afraid to Shoot Strangers, Childhood's End, Wasting Love and a few others I can't remember really stand out to me. And I don't listen to the others enough to know if I really like them that much yet. And also not to mention Fear of the Dark (song) is on this album ;)
