I have to say, their older metal is far better than the new stuff. It's good, but you know....it is just way different. I liked the older more.

Try Losfer Words (Big 'Orra), it's really easy, I learnt it in about 10 minutes.
Dream of Mirrors is fun to play, just got to be able to stretch that pinky.
Trooper is good and so is Wasting Love.
Try paschendale, i'm no guitarist and can easily play all of it (except solos).

Whickerman is not that bad for playing (i havnt tried to play the solo), also fear of the dark is very fun to play.
Wickermans Pretty easy, as is Run to the Hills.
all songs are easy if you only play air guitar

I've had trouble with on of the Rhythm parts to that song, oddly enough, the lead is easy, it's just the bloody rhythm parts.
The Solo to the Wickerman is quite tricky, so I replace bits with a bit of Shredding :thumb:

so, as our thread is quiet tonight, me thinks of a topic:
what songs are we fairly certain they will play?
methinks: the trooper, hallowed be thy name, wrathchild, number of the beast, run to the hills, revelations, still life, iron maiden, prowler.
i think invaders could be there, and probably where eagles dare and running free, but I'm not so sure.

I've heard:
Number of the Beast
Run to the Hills
Rainmaker
u shuld listen to the song "the evil that men do, out of the silent planet, brave new world, iron maiden, 2 minutes to midnight, powerslave, the trooper, murders in the rue mourge, hallowed be thy name, and the wicker man. :)

"Cruelty has a human heart
"Every man does play his part
"Terror of the men we kill
"The human heart is hungry still
"I stand my ground for the very last time
"Gun is ready as I stand in line

Also, when Bruce sings Iron Maiden and the Clansman. I think its the only cd that has him singing those songs.

Only if Dave won't give me his though...
The trooper is possibly one of the easiest songs I know (after the Wickerman), just learn the Adrian solo (soooooooooooo easy) and then just learn the key phrases in Daves solo and then do a bit of shredding.
For the Wickerman, I strip the tab that I got for the solo to the bare bones, learn the first two riffs in the solo and then only play the key phrases within the solo with some of my own patented fills.
Oh and you should never EVER learn someone elses solo exactly, I hate that, the Solo is the expression of the Guitarist, not the person who wrote the song and it's not what you play, it's how you play it!

Yeah, I can do The Wicker Man solo. I can't shred though. Your idea is a good plan for covers though.
My band do an "Iron Maiden tribute"...we do parts of each song (normally the chorus, not always though).
It goes:
Sanctuary (intro+1st verse) - The Wicker Man - Dream Of Mirrors - Paschendale (instrumental interlude, up to "Rush of blood and over we go") - Run To The Hills (bridge after solo up to the end).
We don't do any solo's because I don't trust myself to not freeze and muff it up on stage. I'm a rhythm player naturally.

I can't tell the difference between Janicks and Adrians solos.
I'm just a loser though.
Adrian switches between different style within the same solos, Janick's are more melodic and Dave's are quite bluesy - i have trouble telling who's playing solos on the earlier albums though.
I know Dave from Adrian and Dave from Janick, but put them together and I'm confused.

Yes. Although I only have four of them, I could see where it might lead to. Thanks for doing the work for me, though!
Also, a question: who are Steve Harris' biggest influences on the bass? I've read that he really admired Chris Squire from Yes and the bassist from Free, but I also notice a strong Geezer or Geddy influence. Yes? No?
Thunder Fingers
04-11-2005, 04:51 PM
Geddy is a big influence, so is Phil Lynnott of Thin lizzy(Flatwounded 70's P bass anyone? :p) though they are only with their bands on the following list...
Band Influences -- Wishbone Ash, Genesis, Free, Thin Lizzy, Jethro Tull, Golden Earring, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath.
Bass influences -- Martin Turner, (Wishbone Ash) Andy Fraser, (Free) Chris Squire, John Entwistle (The Who)

On Blood Brothers, Adrian's solo is from about 2:55 till 3:10, then Dave's solo goes from about 3:10 until around 3:25, then when it goes into the vibrato/bendy solo @ 3:26 till 3:57, that's Janick :x

why does everyone hate the darkness so much? i think they are halirious. i saw them for the first time on the european music awards and was not sure if it was a joke or not. the song started to grow on me. i eventually bought the album permission to land and i was really suprised. after the less than stellar vocals it really is a fun time to put it in. its so obnoxious that is really is fun i think. its just reall indulgent funny stuff. i mean who else names a song get ur hands off my woman muther ****er? haha i dont mean to start a flame war here but i was jsut curious to see why no one likes them...ps i totally understand them not beign able to pull off a meiden concert tho.

I hope they would open with Prowler; it's such a kickass song that I could only imagine being even more powerful live. But I'm not a big fan of Where Eagles Dare because it seems too long for an opening song. Still, if the live rendition of it is much better, then I'd be satisfied anyway.

I'll just step here to say that I agree, The Prowler would definitely make a great opening. My favourite song, however, would be Fear of the Dark.
So, who's gonna get brucey's new album on the 23rd of may?
After I catch up on the old stuff.
well, i think they might open with:
Prowler, then Ides of march / wrathchild, then invaders, then where eagles dare. that would be pretty sweet. i hope they play invaders, its a class song.
i don't think they've ever played it live.
I really hope they do To Tame A Land
to tame a land would be awesome live as well...will be a shame if they don't play invaders.
meh, not much point worrying about what they'll play, i'm seeing them (again) so its all good
I read in the biography that Steve really doesn't like Invaders, so if they have played it live, it's not very often.
I read an interview (from 1983) where 'Arry said that To Tame A Land is his favourite Maiden song.
I reckon they won't play both POTO and TTAL. I hope it's TTAL, but it'll probably be POTO :(

if the alternative had happened and blaze had stayed as maiden vocallist, they would have played POTO on the BNW tour, it's Blaze's favourite maiden song

steve didn't say he disliked invaders, just that it wasn't as strong as the other stuff on beast, other than gangland, and he feels they could have had a better song on there instead of those two...
