Blood Brother RiR is amazing...I love what they do in Sanctuary though...

"Left, right, left, right, so give me sanctuary..."

On headphones it changes the side you can hear the crowd from so you hear it like you were there, amazing...

There's Live at the Ruskin Arms, which was never released. Funnily enough Steve thought he lost the tape until he found it knocking around an old cupboard.

There's also Live At the Rainbow, which has been released before. I got it on Video ages ago, Dave has a huge stage presence on that video.

On another note, Janick isn't in the best Guitarists poll.

Thunder Fingers
03-24-2005, 10:29 AM

allthough hes a great guitarist(The solo he have in blood Brothers is one of the best i have ever heard.. its like... janick just tooks steves feelings from that song and put it into that solo.. its not amazingly fast, its not fast at all(speed aint all folks) its just the feelings he manages to push through that startup bend and the rest of the solo..)

back on track, although Janick is a great guitarists there are others that deserve it more, but watching that list, janick could out play many of them, both in playing and in song writing, and CERTANLY in stage presence..

if i had seen thevoting poll he would have maked my list... along with Alex Lifeson, John Fruiscant and Dave and adrian...

ashman
03-24-2005, 10:35 AM
Dave and Adrian are there, so's Frusciante. I don't know about Alex Lifeson. I think Frusciante is in one of the current polls, go vote...

What would happen if Dave and H were in the same Poll? I'd be so stuck. Dave's a better technically, Adrian's better writing...ahh I couldn't chose.

Thunder Fingers
03-24-2005, 10:42 AM
I like Daves Guitars better... i would have a major problem in voting there yes...

yeah, lifeson was in B, and frusciante in C....

ashman
03-24-2005, 10:44 AM
Let's have the same conversation in two threads.

I don't know, I'd maybe vote Dave...

Oh we need to rally the Maiden army to vote for the same person if things get desperate.

Thunder Fingers
03-24-2005, 10:48 AM
Yeah..(lets take it in here :p)

I think maby dave would get my vote too... even if Adrian looks alot thougher...

But to be honest, i think janick realy is my favorite Maiden guitarist for the moment..

but yeah.. dave... on older videos its always his playing, nd style of playing(exept for steve) that catch my intrest... and he have Very Nice Fenders to... *Homer Drool* gaaaaah.. Maple Neck gragl!*

Thunder Fingers

doesnt he use 50's fenders with floyd rose and Seymour Duncanm pickups? (and some with Dimarzio?)

there was one "Iron Maiden guitar" out, mostly made after Janicks.. i think it was released around the same time of Steves sig(wich.. is noting like what he use.. exept the fact that it have a maple neck and a Badass II bridge...Steves bass have a one piece neck, his "sig" have a glued...)

Stew_Blink
03-24-2005, 10:58 AM
i think Janick is some what under rated..i find that Adrain and Dave get more attention, and Janick can really play..none of them have been in a poll yet have they (to lazy to check :p) also whata bout Slash from GNR..he needs to be in a poll sometime to..haha

I have so many favourite Guitars;

Fender 70s Strat (a la Dave Murray)
Ibanez DT200 (Adrian Smith on NOTB and POM)
Jackson RR5 Rhoads
Gibson SG
Dave Mustain Custom Guitar (Can't remember it's name)

There is some more, but I can't remember them :upset:

Thunder Fingers
03-24-2005, 03:37 PM
yeah, i think his was a custom though? i know dave(Mustaine) had customs, but before that i think he used the standard KV2...

Maiden have used custom Jacksons long.. many of dave's strats are Jacksons...

Eddie, when do you go and see maiden?

and Ash, are you going to Leeds?

and i quite like janicks style, even though occasionally he bends out of tune or gets bits wrong. his soloing is definitely more melodic than adrians or dave's as well IMO.

Fine, fine members of the Iron Maiden community, I require your assistance!

As I'm sure you're aware, Maiden are headining Reading Festival this August. I am going, as are several of my friends. Because I'm such a lovely person, I'm going to the trouble of making CDs for my friends, so that they can make more educated decisions on who to see (for smaller bands), and can know a decent chunk of the bigger bands' material so that they can sing along, and generally enjoy the performance more.

So, what I want to know is; if you were given a maximum of 20 Iron Maiden songs everyone must know before they see them live, what would they be?

Remember, it's a festival headline spot and not one of their own gigs - Green Day had the same slot last year, and only played one song from American Idiot, so I'd guess it's safe to assume there'll be a good chunk of classic 80s material played. But then, you guys will know more than me.

I'd also like to acquaint myself with more of their material. I only have Number Of The Beast, Dance Of Death, the No More Lies EP, and Edward The Great.

Any help is greatly appreciated. :)

nicko has only used a double bass pedal in one song (face in the sand) and he hated it.

why is he called nicko? i know it's something to do with when he was in Trust, but i can't remember why. and i can't remember what his real name is.

EDIT:
To Iai: they're doing their early days tour, so that's songs off the first 4 albums - iron maiden, killers, the number of the beast and piece of mind. 20 songs from those albums:
1. Prowler
2. Sanctuary
3. Running free
4. Phantom of the opera
5. Strange world
6. Iron Maiden
7. Wrathchild
8. Murders in the rue morgue
9. Killers
10. Purgatory
11. Twilight Zone
12. Invaders
13. Children of the ****ed
14. The number of the beast
15. Run to the hills
16. Hallowed be thy name
17. Where eagles dare
18. Flight of icarus
19. Die with your boots on
20. The trooper
21: Still life
22. To tame a land

ok...i went to 22...miss out run to the hills and flight of icarus if you want - most people have heard run to the hills anyway, and not everyone likes flight of icarus.

I'm attempting to play the Trooper with 2 fingers and failing horribly.

Yeah it's tough; I still can't do it every time.

The best way to do it is to alternate fingers every time, not just with each triplet. I was used to attempting it this way (M=middle, I=index):

MIM MIM MIM MIM MIM

But it should be:

MIM IMI MIM IMI MIM IMI

It works slightly better that way, but sometimes I forget which finger I'm on when I start each triplet, so I have to angle my hand to each side in order to remember which finger goes first.

What is that song on the Early days. You have to watch that 20th century, thingy. Its where Clive is keeping the rythm with the bass drum then does a snare roll and into the beat. Anyone know what it is?

DiAnno > dickinson > blaze

i think di anno is the best because of the guitar work they did when he was in the band. now most of their songs are galloping power chords. like the trooper, flight of icarus, and run to the hills for example. they are great songs anyways but the guitar work is nothing compared to older songs like "phantom of the opera"

edit: sorry for the double post.

I voted for the two Maiden guitarists in the polls, even though I really like Dave Mustaine and Kim Thayil.

Also, I have to say that "Prowler" is the best opening song ever. And it's a lot of fun to play.

Sadly, Becker won't make it through.

No way, that's probably their least impressive opening song. It's too long and plodding, but if you're a drummer I guess I could relate.

"Prowler" is a lot of fun to play on bass, and probably guitar too.

Every Maiden opener is awesome. All of them.

Voted for Gilmour and Mustaine. Sorry guys.
