In a word, really good. I'll do my 'thing', shall I?

Wildest Dreams: A good start to the album, at first this song unimpressed me but it's a real grower. Nice high-octane, energetic stuff.
Rainmaker: A great song this one, catchy guitar hook, powerful chorus and a good solo. Weird video, but that's life, eh?
No More Lies: For me, 'Arry has tried to pull off a certain kind of song from FOTD onwards. He's never quite managed to pull it off, but there has been some worthwhile efforts (Afraid to Shoot Strangers, Dream Of Mirrors). For many people, he finally hit the mark with NML. Personally, I find it drags on a wee bit much, but nevertheless, a god song.
Montesgur: This is a real cracker - and not just coz my name's in the title! One of Maiden's heaviest songs in their entire back catalogue, the song this is most reminiscent of is Where Eagles Dare, having that heavy triplet feel about it, but unlike WED, this is slightly slower, and hence bears an extra edge of menace. A great song, with a dramatic chorus (though I've heard the argument that it can be semi-cheesy), but for me second best on the album.
Dance of death: Personally, I find this to be the weakest song on the album. It starts of well, great build up etc and then.... it turns Irish. From then on in, there are parts of the song that are great, but all of the highs of the song are nullified by the Irish hook (And then a skirmish started... when your lying in your bed... YOU KNOW THE BIT I MEAN! lol). End result: the song is very.... 'meh'. Though I've been told it's good live.
Gates Of Tomorrow: A good song, but very much filler, nothing special, nothing that makes it stick out the crowd particularly.
New Frontier: I consider this song to be very much the same as the previous song, and the same applies: bland and nothing particularly special.
Paschendale: Best song on the album. This is by far the best Maiden song since 1988, if not earlier (joint with OOTSP, of course. ****, those triplets pwn me :upset:). This is a real epic, with many different parts, each with its own feel, joining and linking together to create something wonderful. This song is worth the 15 quid by itself.
Face In The Sand: A great song, this 'un. Great guitar work, and noteworthy for being the only song Nicko's ever had to resort to using a double-kick to record  I know. Shocking. I really like this song. Yeh.
Age Of Innocence. This too is a great song, also with different parts, each with it's own feel. Surpassed only by the Nicko version, which was a secret track on the No More Lies EP.
Journeyman: Maiden goes acoustic! A great, powerful song, with a sweeping orchaestral backing. Really good stuff. Electric version is better though :P

And that's the dance of death album :)

Lord Abortion
03-10-2005, 05:50 AM
yeah that album is good
I lold when you described DOD as Irish though

no more lies is too overblown for me it drags
where eagles dare owns montesegur
and paschendale is amazing

cya Abortion.

The electric version of Journeyman is also on the No More Lies EP. The tracklist of the No More Lies EP is: No More Lies, Paschendale (orchaestral version), Journeyman (electric version), and a secret track of Nicko singing Age Of Innocence, which is fair hillarious

Hey Gurs,Great review once again.

For me personally i really like No more lies. Although you can get a wee bit lost you can feel the energy in the solos. It's got a got film clip wheree Bruce climbs up the tower. i thought they were goin to bring out the dod tour dvd after that, oh well. :upset:

I though Nicko refused to use a double kick "on principle". i can sort of get it but thats the only part of the song i play. i may learn it for our local eistedfodd.

And yeah the middle "filler" songs, you always get them but i thing these one's bring some extra life to the album.

Anyway, thats my opinion. :thumb:

I'd assume most of you already know, but if you're missing CDs in your Iron Maiden collection (and it might help if you're in England), you could check out HMV's current sale. It's a 4 CDs for £20 deal, with a surprisingly good selection, including three (I think) Iron Maiden albums. Not rare ones, naturally, but just in case, thought I'd post this here. Even if you only want one particular one, I think they'll be reduced individually (just not as much).

Sorry if this is old news around these parts, "HMV" isn't too easy to search for.

I used the opportunity to pick up Number of the Beast and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, incidentally.

I got my first IM album yesterday..NOTB..kinda sad considering I got visions of the beast before getting an album. and sorry for being a noob in this thread but what is "The Iron Maiden Authority"?

Stew_Blink
03-11-2005, 08:35 PM
This may have been discussed before but..ever notice on NOTB Limited Edition that if you play it in windows media player the last song is titled "Total Eclipse" even though the song is actually "Hallowed Be Thy Name"..although it may just be my windows media player..seeing as it has been messed up of late.

GurS
03-11-2005, 08:44 PM
In the album sleeve, you'll also find that total eclipse is the song whose lyrics are printed last. However, I can account for the lyric booklet order - Total Eclipse was not on the original vynil, but instead the B-side for the Run To The Hills booklet. Hence, so that to keep the album sleeve of the cd as close to original as possible, Total Eclipse was printed after the Hallowed Be Thy Name lyrics.

The Maiden Authority are the three people who, basically, know just about everything there is to know about Maiden, and can answer any queries you have about Maiden.

I like Bruce for his and Paul's stuff, but Blaze's stuff should only be sung by Blaze imo, simply because it fitted Blaze's lower voice more than it does the air-raid siren of Bruce.

Stew_Blink
03-12-2005, 07:23 PM
me and like my 2 best friends (one of them being the most maiden knowing guy i know) were moshing (thats right all 3 of us) to the intire Rock In Rio DVD :p haha it was a blast..and like we'd do solos and stuff..yeah were really..uhh dumb like that? and also this has nothing to do with maiden but we hit golfballs at houses in the trailer park across from my friends house. it was fun..except when we like broke the siding on one and had to run like hell.

Stew_Blink

I'd say i like Bruce more than any of them..i really dislike Paul for some reason..i find him...fruity? i dunno..and i don't like Blaze that much either for some reason, although both do have good voices..Bruce's seems to just be a better singer to me, and fits maiden way better than the other 2. without him maidens line up of today wouldn't be as good as it is.

Bruce is more suited for the Maiden stuff. Blaze just doesn't have the range for Maiden, but for his own band BLAZE, his voice suits that music perfectly. Dianno was too....throaty for my liking.

I need a complete bass tab for Blood on the World's Hands. :(

The only one I've been able to find is the same with, with the first minute or so (it goes up until the rest of the band breaks in)

It's annoying me.

The bendy riff between solos? That's probably the easiest bit in the song, I just have a lot of trouble with Daves solo. I don't learn Janick solos, theyre too sloppy for me.

I listen to mainly death metal like Cryptopsy, Nile, Skinless, In Flames, Fear Factory, Psychotogen and Soilwork. I wanna hear some Iron Maiden songs, but I dont know many. Can you recommend some?

I've heard:
Number of the Beast
Run to the Hills
Rainmaker

In answer to your questions, it depend on what sort of music style you like, Maiden´s sound has the ability to sound different but you allways know it´s Maiden. Just write what kind of sound you want and I'll try to give you some good recommendations...

I think the credits go to whoever came up with the idea for that song and wrote the core parts of the song. Like in days of old, Steve used to play some Basslines he'd come up with and whistle the melody for the guitars.

I know these questions are the most frequently asked but...

1: What Maiden song has the best lyrics?
2: What Maiden song has the best guitar tabs?
3: What Maiden song has the best bas tabs?
4: What Maiden song has the best drum tabs?

I know these questions are kind of stupid but what da´heck...you only live once...

there are to many annoying/ugly people were i live :p and also like no guy singers..and my band desperatly needs one...and a good one. right now our singing options are our bassist sings and plays (which he can't do) or i sing and drum (which i can't do) and it would look super weird if the drummer was also the lead singer haha.

Would like to, but I can't afford the ticket and the cost for a flight to the US. I need to buy an Amp and a multieffects pedal. I've decided I'm going to ressurrect the old band soon and it's gonna cost me a bit.
