I'm such a Maiden fan whenever I see someone wearing a Maiden T-Shirt, I demand that they name at least 2 band members (past of present), so I know if they are posers or not; like that Whore from that Britney Spears video :anger:
Why don't you ask them what the drummers name is, then what his real name is, then what his nickname is and see if they know their stuff. and if they don't give em a slap in the head for me
And what "Whore" from what video

Apparently a reporter for metal sludge was standing in line next to
Nicko at the opening of the Motley Crue tour.
So, my dream of owning all the Maiden studio albums grows ever nearer. Hello No Prayer For The Dying.

Isn't Ozzfest only for up and coming bands, ya no like new bands and such, this sort of gives them a kick start into the industry. But i know there are some well known bands on the tour.
well last years ozzfest they had people like Judas Priest, Slayer and Sabbath so i wouldnt think it is just for up and coming bands.
but it's cool that ozzfest gicves small bands a chance to get some attention.

First Maiden song I can play on bass. R0xx0rz.
ashman
02-18-2005, 04:49 PM
That is a different way to what I play it. The way I play it on Bass is just:
------------------------5--------7----
----2---------5------5----5----7------
--2--2-----5------3----------5---------
0-------3----------------------------
It's just that basically all the way through...
vashts80
02-18-2005, 04:58 PM
The thing is that on Rio, he strums during most of the 1st slower solo (Where it goes slow -> fast -> slow -> Verse [When you think that we've used all our chances...]) that's what's confusing me with all the tabs. I need to see if there's a tab book for BNW.
I'll give a track-by-track analysis on FOTD and why it's the worst IMO.
BQOBD: Great start, fantastic song.
From Here To Eternity: Ditto.
Afraid To Shoot Strangers: First time I heard it, I thought "Great! Fantastic!". But it gets dull and stale quickly. I believe 'Arry was trying to write a certain style of song... and had many failed attempts on the way. This includes this song IMO, and he's tried it on most of the albums since then, he nearly had it with Dream of Mirrors but he finally found what he was looking for IMO with No More Lies.
Fear Is The Key: Terrible, awful song. It's hideous.
Childhood's End: Decent song
Wasting Love: Dull and schmaltzy IMO. Not very great.
The Fugitive: A great song. I <3 it muchly.
Chains Of Misery: Dull, repetative and not very good. So far below what Maiden are capable off.
The Apparition: Next...
Judas Be My Guide: A good song. Very nice.
Weekend Warrior: If this was a B-side, I'd love it - you could assume it's a joke. But as it's on an alubm, we must assume that this song was written in Earnest. :amaze: It's cheesy, early 90's crap.
Fear Of The Dark: A fantastic song to end the album on... goes about half way to redeeming the album.
In honestly, if they had released the album as BQOBD, From Here To Eternity, Childhood's End, The Fugitive, Judas Be My Guide and FOTD, it'd be great. But the rest of the album drags it way down, and makes it dull and slow, when listening to this album I find myself skipping half the songs on it, just so that I don't fall asleep. Yes, the best songs on this are probably better than the best songs on NPFTD, but the rest are so crap and/or mediocre that it places the album right at the bottom of the album ranking.
My two pence.

Thats a nice kit though, what brand? and what cymbals do u use and what r they ie sizes/types.
Are u guys a cover band or do u play originals. I'm in a cover band but don't have a singer. :upset:
That kit isn't actually mine, it was the places. The cymbals, however, where all mine. Kitwise, at home I have a combination of a pearl forum and a Premier kit. I'm not sure about the snare size or the tom depths, but width wise the toms are: 8", 10", 14" (snare converted into a tom), 12", 13", and my floor toms are 14" and 16". The bass drums are 20" and 22"
Cymbal wise, I don't believe in sticking to one brand, I mix and match to get the best sound possible. As a result:
14" Zyn HiHats
14" Paiste 200 HiHats
18" Pearl CX300 Crash/Ride
18" Sabian AAXPlosion Crash
18" Paiste Signature Power Crash
20" Zyn Ride (used as crash)
20" Sabian Rock Ride
24" Paiste 2002 China
For the gig, kit-wise I used one snare, two rack toms, two floor toms and a double-kick instead of two bass drums. Most places don't have enough mics for me to use my full kit :(
We do our own stuff, though we cover Bring Your Daughter... To The Slaughter. We also took the words to some song from the 20's called Frankie and Johnny, and put it to some 12 bar blues

And how good is killers n e way? If i bought it would i be dissapointed
Well, it's easiest to compare it to Iron Maiden:
When it's good, it's better than the stuff on Iron Maiden, but when it isn't good then it's worse than the stuff on Iron Maiden. Where Iron Maiden is an album of consistancy, Killers is an album of highs and lows.
In my opinion, of course.
2nded.
Ok, i'll do this.
Ides Of March: Killer opening. Oh yeh. No more needs to be said. (It's an instrumental btw)
Wrathchild: You've heard this song before, trust me.
Murders In The Rue Morgue: This is an ok song, above average, but not great by any standards. You could say it's 'good'.
Another Life: I didn't like this one too much, still don't. The best version of this song is the Ruskin video on Early Days.
Ghengis Khan: Often said to be the best of the four Maiden instrumentals. IMO joint with Losfer Words.
Innocent Exile: Tricky bass opening, an OK song, nothin special. Rather bland.
Killers: Joint best song on the album. This song is fuggin FANTASTIC. This is, as Facsimile said, probably better than any song on Iron Maiden (with the POSSIBLE exception of Strange World and Running Free).
Prodigal Son: A nice little 12-string accoustic song, in the vain of Strange World or Remember Tomorrow, except in a major key.
Purgatory & Twilight Zone: I'm doing these two songs together for a reason. These two songs are very much unlike any other Maiden song in the whole back catalogue. This is, probably, due to the fact that they were singles, and unlike Sanctuary and Running Free, you get a feeling that they had to be cut down to fit the time frame, unlike the singles from the S/T, which were probably written as that length. Purgatory is a great song, and fits the confines of time really well, really benefits from being short and punch, and is one of the best songs on the album. In contrast, Twilight Zone should have been fleshed out, as it is it seems pretty lacklustre and doesn't quite push the right buttons, which it may have been able to do had it been written out more substantially.
Drifter: Joint best song on the album. It has many parallels with the song Iron Maiden, and could well be a follow up. I love this song, especially the bit wtih harmonics. A great way to end the album.
My two pence.

I do them in order of requests... so I guess I'll do NOTB next. But first, everyone go give me postiveness on my BNW review on sputnikmusic.com
OK
Invaders: A great start to the album, high octane adrenaline all the way. One of the greatest way to start an album, from any album EVER (my mum jumped when it started first time I put on my stereo at home).
Children Of The ****ed: This song is fuggin fantastic. A nice soft intro, over which a semi-majestic solo is played over, followed by lush, coaxing vocals give way to a heavy distorted chorus - you can almost hear thousands of fans screaming along with "Children Of The ****ed" - I swear, if they do this song on the upcoming tour I'm gonna cream my pants.
The Prisoner: Nice drum intro (if a little typical of the 80's), this is an upbeat little tune that is a good way to get people who aren't into Maiden, into Maiden. Another chorus to die for.
22 Accacia Avenue: The second song in the Charlotte The Harlot Quartology. This song is great when you're not listening to it... but somehow, when you listen to it, it's not as good as you think it is. So, many people will say it's a great track, but then when they listen to it, they'll say it's not that great, but five minutes later they'll say that it is. I dunno why, but that's how it is. So, I'm gonna say it's great, but it's probably not that great
Numer Of The Beast: Well, this song is a classic. The opening spoken verse is a mantra of Metal, and when the guitar intro comes in... shivers in my spine, what can I say. H's solo in this is one of my favourite Maiden solo, and even 'Arry's got a mini-solo.
Run To The Hills: Every Maiden Noob's favourite song. Famous for it's power house chorus and for the speed - 'Arry's blurring fingers on the video is an icon of bass playing. And I don't know a single Maiden fan who can't help but play air-drums for the chorus - you know, the BUH-duh-buh-DUH-buh-duh-BUH-duh-buh-DUH-buh-duh... you know!
Gangland: Not many people like this. I do. The drum intro is incredible, the whole intro is great... when the vocals come in, it movies from semi-jazzy to metal. I like it, but musically, it's perhaps not as great as the rest of it.
Total Eclipse: Criminally, one of the most underrated songs in Maiden's back catalogue. It's great - the start is slow and heavy, the chorus ("sunlight has gone...) is REALLY heavy, nice and gruff, the fast bit just plain rawks and the outro-verse is really majestic. Fan-fuggin-tastic. Oh yeh.
Hallowed Be Thy Name: You guys all know this song. The slow intro, then it speeds up, then the whole going-up-then-down-in-steps bit, and then "YEAH, YEAH, YEAH! HALLOWED BE THEY NAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAME". It's great, but ya'll know it and love it so well, that I think it don't need to much more analisys, do you? If you need any more proof that it's great, just remember, it is the no2 Rock & Metal song of ALL TIME (stairway to heaven beat it by 1 vote). That should be all the proof needed.
All in all, a pleasure to listen to. The best way to get into Maiden, without a doubt.
My two pence
Oh, and the "Excellence of Execution" rawks too... second best wrestler EVER (after the late, great Davey Boy Smith)

I was wondering if they tried Steve Harris yet, but then I remembered that he's probably gotten an awful lot of fan mail over the decades, and some of it he probably hasn't even read ("Dude you should get rid of that Dianno guy he sucks!!!"). i didnt know he fell off stage once til i read that thing in kerrang magazine that had 25 things you didnt know about maiden. actually i knew most of them.
to the person inquiring about the B-side thats an argument: its called mission from 'arry, bruce recorded it when steve and nicko were arguing after nicko smacked a roadie who distracted him in a drum solo. it ends when nicko sees bruce and shouts "some cunt's recording this!!!" (i think thats it)

Definately number of the beast, and if you want you can get 7th son of a 7th son... (I havn't heard all of Iron Maidens albums... :()
the thing is almost any maiden albums could be recommended, there are 13 studio albums, then 10 live albums / best of's etc.

i dont no why it is but i dont like 7th son of a 7th son aswell as other albums. its a good one but dont see what was so special about it?
i suppose its because its all along the same sort of theme, almost (but not quite) a concept album. also, adrian smith wrote most of it himself.
personally its not one of my favourite studio albums, those being brave new world, the self-titled and powerslave
(at least at the moment, it changes fairly often)

Adrians guitars from the same album...
Lado Earth 2003
Lado Earth 2001 (I have on of these!!!)
The models are actually named Earth 2000, 2000-1, 2000-2, and 2000-3, whith each being a slight variation on the base 2000 model. I own Lado Earth 2000-3 #1. The next 3 or 4 2000-3 models Joe Kovacic (Lado owner) built went to Adrian Smith.
http://www.sadbuttrue-band.com/info/CrunchmeisterBigPics.asp#Lado
It's a little beat up (cosmetically) after 20+ years of heavy use and gigging, but it's structurally sound other than some fret wear, and is still plays like a dream and sounds awesome. It's without a doubt the best electric guitar I have ever laid hands on. Lado guitars rule.
