Steve Harris, is, in my opinion, the greatest metal songwriter of all time.
And I've been listening to hella Powerslave today, the title track is the shiz'

IAJP

yeah i noticed that when i was looking in the iron maiden and killers album books. One with a tshirt over his head too like Cornholio out of Beavis and Butthead.
He has to be probbably the happiest man ever to live .
Has anyone got "Live After Death" ?
I just got it..and I'm listening to the 8:00+ version of Running Free.

The trooper is a cool bassline. I can play "The clairvoyant" pretty good and "sign of the cross". Other songs include "iron maiden" and most of "Fear of the Dark". Steve harris is a hell of a bassist, some of the bass lines he creates are just nuts. :p :naughty:

i can play Phantom of the opera and Rime of the ancient mariner...

PWN!

J/K(i can play them though...)

IAJP

What would you say you prefer?
Phantom Of The Opera, Powerslave, Rime Of The Ancient Mariner or Dance Of Death?

:thinks:
I might go along with saying Powerslave..

Josh
01-30-2005, 09:40 AM
hmmm...dance of death is pretty cool. but i'd probably say powerslave, its way cooler, and the lyrics are darker (IMO)

IAJP

That's so bloody awesome.

Has anyone noticed in nearly every Maiden booklet that comes with the C.D, there's nearly allways a picture of Dave Murray holding a can of larger smiling?

C'mon, it's rude not to have a picture of Dave with lager, it's like Dave not smilling :O.

meh, they might suddenly announce a huge UK tour - that would be class.

shadow_stalker

they sould spend like 3 months touring the uk, and play newcastle a few times

Josh

yeh that would be great. except the show might get repetitive. but so what...you'd know what songs were coming up

shadow_stalker
01-31-2005, 12:56 PM
well they change the set list for each time they played the same place

Josh
01-31-2005, 12:58 PM
now that would be worth paying about £75 for - seeing them 3 times with 3 different setlists.

shadow_stalker

Sum 41 supporting Iron Maiden would be awesome though. You can tell how much influence Maiden has had on them; it shows up every once in a while in short songs like "Pain for Pleasure" or "Grab the Devil By the Horns and **** Him In the ***."

The only reason Sum 41 can't do the Maiden thing is because their bassist uses a pick. Well, he's not that great anyway, but the plectrum really inhibits his ability to play classic Maiden style. I guess they'll just have to stick to Metallica covers.

Josh
01-31-2005, 03:13 PM
sum41 arent that bad, all killer no filler was the first "proper" album i bought, as in not just pop. well actually it was the first album i ever bought.

To link Cradle Of Filth to Iron Maiden...

Hmm... they are both very melodic bands, and both use very "researched" (for want of a better term) lyrics... both are pretty cheesy too! Hahahahaha... ha.

Wow, this thread is really long. I never knew there were so many Maiden fans out there! When I first started playing guitar, I built all of my metal chops from maiden. I remember getting piece of mind when it first came out and was completly blown away by the riffing on it. I had never heard anything so heavy in my life! I quickly picked up beast, killers, iron maiden and maiden japan. At one point, I could throw on any of those records (yes, I still have them on vinyl) and jam with any of the songs. By the time 7th son came out, I had almost everything they had ever done (singles, live stuff, demos, bootlegs, picture discs)....including some stuff only released in england. I became a little disenfranchised on no prayer and unfortunately lost interest in anything new of theirs because of it. So I guess I'm just a classic maiden fan. I remember spending hours practicing trills just trying to match dave murrays lead work. Murray/Smith will always be the greatest metal duo for me! :thumb:

Does anybody have a proper tab (bass) for Blood Brothers? All the ones I've found (the two on mx especially) don't sound right...could be me, though.

Edit: On another note, imo

Blaze's rendition of "Afraid to Shoot Strangers" > Bruce's rendition of it (Blaze's live version on Best of the Beast and various live boots from after Bruce left)

"only the good die young, all the evil seem to live forever"

I love the bit on 'all the evil' when the vocals go powerful and high. So good.

I just noticed on the Rock In Rio DVD...

The funniest thing on it is when the guy from the crowd jumps onto the stage and taps Janick (I think it was Janick... maybe not) on the shoulder, and instantly security runs over and pushes him off

What does everyone think of Killers?
I like it but not as much as the first Maiden album.

Probably my favourite Maiden album, I love Steve's bass work on it.

that would be an... amusing stage trick. having your legs waxed in mid-song.

rik

 nah, i'm pretty sure he doesn't do that on stage

it would be a bit distracting if Janick or someone is trying to play a solo and Steve is getting his legs waxed right next to him

GurS

no more distracting then trying to play a solo while eddie is taking punches at you (RE: Evil that men do, RIR)
