So, has anyone noticed that the riff just before and after the solo in "Infinite Dreams" is very similar to that of "Montsegur"?

And the cheesiest has to be "Bring Your Daughter... To The Slaughter"

Happy birthday Eddie!!!

The Clansman is performed really well by Bruce. Does anyone think that Man On the Edge sounds a bit similiar to Be Quick Or Be Dead?

Powerslave is Maiden's best album. It totally kicks *** in every way that an album can kick ***. Everything before Powerslave kicks *** as well although their first album is kind of punky but still good. Live after death and Somewhere in time are pretty good. After that, Maiden really went downhill. Most of their songs sound like they're just phoning it in and collecting a paycheck. Yeah, there are some good tunes here and there, but there's a *lot* of crap. Brave New World wasn't too bad and I've only heard one song off of DoD, but it was pretty lame.

As to the cheesiest Maiden songs, I'm gonna have to say either Holy Smoke or Can I Play with Madness.

i can't stand covers much either, unless they do a really good job on it, like Opeths cover of Remember Tommorrow or Jeff Buckley's Cover on Hallelujah. But then you get bands who all they can do is cover other people's music, Jimmy Barnes=Big Example

there are several albums devoted to this slave to the power and tribute to the beast -there are several of these albums
try Iced earth's tribute to the gods with fantastic covers of hallowed be thy name and NOTB
and cradle's hallowed be thy name is very interesting with added synth effects
taking the song in a new direction

That song is a great song. One of my favorites.

I like the Paul Dianno Maiden better then the Dickenson Maiden.

I notice alot of older Maiden fans feel this way, I'm 30 and I still prefer Dickinson over Dianno, never really got into Killers as much as the other albums with Bruce at the helm. Although I also notice that people who prefer Dianno with Maiden also prefer Dio with Sabbath over Ozzy. Which I still dont, however I have come to appreciate Dio with Sabbath much more with time.

That's pretty funny. I love all Sabbath, but Ozzy is always gonna be my fav. I really like the Dio Sabbath too, but I love the Dio Rainbow.

Weird how that works out eh?

Piece of Mind is my favorite Maiden album as a whole though. To Tame a Land still blows me away.

The Dianno stuff is more raw and diverse to me. They bounced around some different styles and did it well I thought. When Bruce came onboard he certainly had the vocal range, but they kinda stuck themselves in a rut of similar sounding songs in some regards.

"In a time when dinosaurs ruled the earth, In a land where swamp and caves were home..." is cheesy?? C'mon those lyrics rule!! Just kidding - they are kind of cheesy. I still love the tune though. Piece of mind is a f*kin killer album. To Tame a Land is an epic tune.

Whoo hoo, I finally received the self-titled album and listened to it the whole way through last night! It was pretty good; here are some of my thoughts:

Prowler: Loved this song. Great opener.

Sanctuary: Sounded a little like KISS, but with better bass. Still pretty good.

Remember Tomorrow: This one I didn't like very much. I think it would be better with Bruce Dickinson because it's a bit more "spacey." Dianno does better on the grittier tracks.

Running Free: I loved this one; very bouncy. The chorus is a little repetitive, but it made a good single I guess.

Phantom of the Opera: I've renewed my membership in the Church of Steve Harris thanks to this song. The best on the album.

Strange World: A little bit better than "Remember Tomorrow," but it's more of a Bruce song, probably.

Charlotte the Harlot: This is another great song. Lots of fun.

Iron Maiden: Of course, this one rocks.

and I say as a first album, Number of the beast. People who are new to maiden get bored by Rime and also don't fully appreciate Flash of the Blade, The Duellists and Back in the Village. i'd say powerslave is more a third or fourth album.

Ok thanks. I love The Duellists though. I was listening to Powerslave at my friend's house and I think the cd is great. That's why I asked about that one too.

and whats a trainspotter?

IAJP

Meh I prefer DOD to BNW, allthough BNW has the wicker man on it (.)

Anyway, a trainspotter is someone who hangs around train stations and waits for trains to come in, then they identify the train.
Weird, I know :p.
Anyway, can someone recomend me a Maiden album, I'm a pretty seasoned listener.
I have:Iron Maiden,The Number Of The Beast, Piece Of Mind, Brave New World and DOD.
I also have Rock In Rio..but..yeah.
Anyway, so any recomendations?

On "The Number Of The Beast" on A Real Dead One, during the introduction "Woe to be" part, there seems to be another voice in the part that speaks between "the number of the beast" and "it's number is 666" and then a bit after that, as well as in a few other places. Running Free kinda has a guitar solo towards the middle, and the bass solo in Iron Maiden more than makes up for the lack of guitarage, but yeah i think you're right. Come to think of it...does Purgatory have one? Awesome song btw :D

Hey guys, I've just added a bio for Iron Maiden on mx's new CD Reviews site. That's where all the reviews are now. Tell me what you think of this:

One of the greatest and most popular heavy metal bands to ever take the stage, Iron Maiden was formed in 1975 by bassist Steve Harris. After several lineup changes in the early 80s, a more or less stable line-up emerged. This classic line-up includes vocalist Bruce "Air Raid Siren" Dickinson, as well as twin lead guitarists Dave Murray and Adrian Smith. Maiden pioneered the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement of the early 80s, distinguishing themselves from their peers with literary subject matter and considerable musical talent. They have recently released their thirteenth studio album, "Dance of Death," and continue a steady touring and recording schedule. More than two decades after its inception, Iron Maiden maintains a steady and fervent fanbase without the benefit of radio airplay or media saturation.

The site keeps having trouble, so that's the third time I've typed that bio up from scratch. Hope it satisfies the Authority.

Ah this reminds me of a post I wanted to make yesterday but I had recently turned off the computer so I couldn't be arsed.

Do you think Maiden were better off without Bruce for a while? When you can hear Bruce on Fear of the Dark, and live albums he really sounded tired and quite fed up. However, when I hear Brave New World, he sounds so refreshed, and it's like the band is renewed in a way. So, without the Bruce break, Maiden might have been doomed because Bruce may have got worse and worse. What are your thoughts?

Lord Abortion
01-18-2005, 03:23 AM
well FOTD and NPFTD were awful by maiden's standards so I can see your point here i agree totally that the break did bruce good and H too and Maiden went on to produce x-factor which was better than the previous two albums
then the two came back and all was better with BNW

So, without the Bruce break, Maiden might have been doomed because Bruce may have got worse and worse. What are your thoughts?
bruce needed the break he couldnt be arsed any more. anyway it let him to more solo work, gave blaze a shot and then when he came back people appreciated bruce more, and the result was the awesome album that is brave new world

That's a shame for Ireland. You know what the lesson is there? Don't be Irish.

:) Well it's our fault really with all of that :(.

Maiden should have realised that the Trooper would not have gone down well.

i doubt theyll release many more singles, but its actually up to EMI because they sold the rights for the pre-1991 songs (i think, it was something like that) to EMI, so its possible that there will be more singles.

Any word of a North American tour?

Josh
01-18-2005, 02:29 PM
not yet. they havent even announced UK dates! there wont be many dates in the US, its only a small tour (by maidens standards) as in only huge arenas and festivals (well mostly)

They haven't sold out in the usual way, they have literally sold out by selling all the rights. They are still good, I'm not gonna be boycotting them or anything...:thumb:

Oh man, it would be rad to own all of their singles. Too abd they didn't release a box set of all their singles like Nirvana.

Does anyone know when their next album is rumoured to be released?

You do know that all the money from the single is going to the asian disaster.

They arnt getting a penny. Well thats what i heard. The record producer is taking the cost's for making it and maiden are getting nothin because they are already loaded. Now metallica are sellouts. Wouldn't even let people download their music. All they care about is the money.

Hey all, for those who live in the US (and for those elsewhere who want to help us here see Maiden), go to the Ozzfest survey page: http://promo.cc.com/ozzfest/survey/default.aspx?cfc=1
and under the bands you want to see at Ozzfest entry, enter Iron Maiden (I put in Maiden and Priest since I'd love to see Maiden, Priest, and Ozzy at the same show - that would be like a religious experience for me!!!) I've never seen Maiden or Priest live and they don't really play much in the states anymore. So, help a brother out :) Thanks!!!!!

I was going to see priest next month over here but the ticket was £29.50
which is extortionate pricing
(megadeth was £16 and cradle of filth is £14 just to give you some idea...)
why are they so much?
