*drools* you lucky bugger

I can't tell the difference between the soloists normally, can you give me some examples of each of them.

Davey....very legatto, smooth sounding and fast. He dosnet pick every note and his sound the most "dreamy" id say.

Adrian...more blues based, start off slower but pick up, the most "metal" of all the soloists, my personal fav.

Janick...very sloppy in his leads, scratchy, and at times dosnet fit the songs as well. hes more of a third leg lead player, but a good song/riff writer none the less.

The stuff off Somewhere in Time countains a lot of Adrian Smith's work

Thus the basis of its appeal! Adrian being my favourite member of the band, i enjoy that album more than the others...always been my favourite.

How have I missed this?? I love Iron Maiden, best band of all time.

Does anyone know where I can get a live version (preferably a video) of them performing Rime of the Ancient Mariner?

Janick Gers is definitely not a third leg. Have you seen the man play. He is amazing!

Live After Death....

Janick is a pretty good player, why would maiden choose him if he was bad? and if he was bad they would have gotten rid of him when adrian joined back(like they did with Blaze).. Janick are a big part of maidens live show along with Steve And Bruce... (lets face it Adrian and Dave usually just stand there...)

He's a live guy. An amazing live guy at that.

Lets face it though, is there anyone that would have joined Maiden that WOULDN't be a third wheel to Smith and Murray?

i got dance of death the day it came out and was actually shocked...i thought it was gonna suck since they would have lost their touch. they didn't but some things i that i noticed id dint like...the intro to face in the sand sounds very similar to ghots of the navigator at the beggining. all the things that sound kind of similar r just natural tho. it's a good CD :)

as i said, hes a third leg "soloist" in terms of leads and all. i mentioned how his riff/song writing is top knotch, but in terms of playing leads he dosent match up to Davey and Adrian as well.

Yes, he fades into the back of the music a lot. Most of the time he throws his guitar about rather than playing it. But his solo on HBTN when live is always amazing. He is MUCH faster than Adrian. Watch his fingers move on RiR, he really is amazing!

Here's what I'm thinking: in the "Number of the Beast" video, Dave plays the first solo and Adrian goes next. Is that the way most of the two-solo songs go? Because I'll bet Dave goes first almost all the time, just to be consistent.

yes thats what i said lol, one ear is dave one is adrian on live shows (if you got headphones on!) Dave's neck pickup sound is easy to recgonize, as well as adrians bluesy tone.

I hate kids who say Iron Maiden are crap, when all the kid listens to is hip-hop, and nu-metal. Iron Maiden are the grandads of metal, and still play a better live show than these crap nu-metal bands. If it weren't for Iron Maiden, I don't think metal would be the same.

Well in the immediate future, theyve got the Americas' leg of the tour. After that, Im not sure what they'll be up to, probably taking a break, which I think is pretty well earnt.

I've heard that there will be a DVD with clips from all the DOD tour dates on. I really hope its true. I was at Earls Court in Dec (which BTW, was amazing :thumb:), and the way they filmed everything on the big screens at the front looked a lot more like something for a DVD than just for a one of thing at a gig, there seemed to be too much effort in it.

Hmmm... I think that lyrically, Revelations has gotta be high up on the list, if not my favourite. :)

im sure at sometime they might have used one as a back up, but that mostly play Fenders or Jacksons (davey) and Adrian uses his Les Paul some as well. Obviosuly over the years they have used differnet guitars, gibson exploreres, SG's, etc...but now and days mostly Strats with Hotrail humbuckers.

Steve Harris has done a lot of mad Bass Lines, The Prisoner always seemed tricky to me.

Not that it matters, but has any one noticed that the artwork on some of the Iron Maiden discs are faded or colored wrong and also it says (0.00) on the time of Sanctuary on the re-done album, My friend also bought a NOTB cd and the artwork that was on the disc was the Iron Maiden album, but it still played all the NOTB songs. I was just wondering why alot of Maiden albums are mis-printed.

Im a ****ing diciple of Steve on bass, ive been practicing his style since before i ever heard of Maiden. Honestly, i wrote a riff that is a note off from "the clairvoyant" before i ever heard the band lol. Harris is what drew me into them to begin with (and yes i play Fender P-basses mostly) so when i heard his galloping three triplet style, i began to work on it and i have it down well enough to play in a tribute band i tell ya hehe. Honestly, his hardest riffs arnt due to speed but more on his choice of fingering on the fretboard. Steve, as you all know, follows leads and fills that many bassiest would choose to ignore...this making it hard at times. His little jaunt in "only the good die young" and even the prechorus on "caught somwhere in time" took me awhile to get down. Listen to his rhythems during leads, i know its hard to not listen to Adrian or Davey (janick too!) but this is where Steve can really shine, completly taking the rhythem into new directions without guitar acompainet. Blood on the Worlds Hands is a difficult intro at first, but again...get his style down and everything is natural to play by him, as well as the interldue in "infinate dreams". really an inspiration for me, along with Geddy Lee and John Paul Jones...Steve's style helped me take more of a lead direction with the bass guitar.

I was listening to Iron Maiden yesterday and it struck me just how good he was, anybody else feel this way?

Also, I was doing a bit of by-ear transcription from the same album (got the Remember Tomorrow riff and most of Running Free) but I need one more bit of info:

In the running Free verse, is it E5 - C5 - G5, E5 - C5 - D5 or is it something else?

^^^^

you'll hear it pop up in alot of bands now and then, but no one really uses it for their foundation of the songs like Harris does, basically because it would be like mimicing his style to much. Lost Horizon does it quite often actually, download "sworn in the metal wind" for a good example. I hear some prog rockers do it occasionally, but mostly for fills to match snare or double bass rolls. I think it helps to go in decending order with your fingers, "ring, middle, pointer" over and over, but some people prefer it the other way around.

Rats, accidently deleted this once...

A few days ago (Tues.) i saw Maiden in Montreal!
Firstly it was a wicked show, and Montreal maiden fans kick @**!!!
To get everyone pumped up for the show a recording of Doctor, Doctor(the UFO song maiden covered on the B-Side) was played while Maiden was setting up.

Maiden opened with Wildest dreams and then went Straight into WRATHCHILD!
3rd song was Can i play with madness and 4th was rainmaker. i cant remember the order after that but they played...

Wildest Dreams
Wrathchild :)
Can i play with Madness
Rainmaker
Lord of the Flies
Brave new World
Dance of Death
Fear of the Dark
Hallowed be Thy Name
Iron Maiden- Best version i have ever heard/seen, just amazing
No More Lies
Paschendale
Number of the beast
The Trooper
And for an encore the got out the acoustics for: Jorneyman and then brought back the power for a massive Run to The Hills.

Overall it was a wicked show, ArchEnemy was really good, but not as good as Motorhead(imo), but the Maiden part of the show was about 100x better than the Give me Ed i saw in Toronto.

Also Bruce said (in french): "This is not our last tour.. Theres always a place for Canada in our tours, always a place for Montreal in our tours!!!"

So good news for Canadians/ northern Americans(or southerners who wanna drive alot?)

Ya but overall t'was a wicked show.

FOKKING RIGHT!!!!!! I want a complete setlist and tell me what color undergarments Adrian was wearing haha.

Okay, I'll see what I can do. ;)

We (My friends and I) got there half an hour earlier. It was cold, real cold and the line was pretty big. We finally got in, and waited another 45 minutes or so for Arch Enemy to come on. But before the show started, a drunk guy pissed on the floor. His ***** was hanging out, with his cup of beer in his right hand. It was 8:00 pm, Arch Enemy finally came on. Most of the guys here were middle aged men, so not all of them were into Arch Enemy. I thought they put on a good show, a lot better live than their album. Guys were screaming 'Show us your boos already!. They ended with their famous 'Ravenous' and left. Finally, the IRON MAIDEN came on, opening up with Wildest Dreams. The Canadian (sorry, don't remember your username) posted the set list, except it was in different order. The Trooper had a big pit, as well as Fear of the Dark. The encores were great, classics such as Number of the Beast and Run to the Hills. Some fights broke out and some fat guy who was unconsious was pushed/punched in a small pit. They played a few songs from DoD and rest from other albums. Wrathchild was good, as well as Rainmaker. It was the greatest night ever, and plus they said they're coming back next year, with a new album. Fear of the Dark defiantely owned. Iron Maiden definately know how to put on a great show. UP THE FOKKING IRONS!!!!!! :thumb:  You had to been there man.

5 more days for me...i am calling Sanctuary - US and contacting Merck Mercuriadis (CEO) to see if i can get permission to record and bring in a banner. He is known to give VIP passes out to those who contact him. So we will see!

Iron Maiden definately know how to put on a great show. UP THE FOKKING IRONS!!!!!! :thumb:  You had to been there man.

you still didnt tell me what color Adrian's panties were lol. :naughty: anyways, im glad you had a blast! when i saw them for the second time this past august, i was overwhelmed with energy. I thought of a valid point the other day, "there is no such thing as a half-assed Iron Maiden fan"...either you dont like them or you worship them, and i think thats what has kept them going for so long being as wonderful as they are!! New album, hell im ready for it! The past two releases (BNW, and DOD) i think were some of their best efforts and the new songs sound wonderful live!! If they go anywhere in the US, anywhere, this summer im going. Its not even open for discussion! Did they play anything from "somewhere in time"? im sure not, though id love to hear some stuff off that cd live, it being my favourite and all. When i saw them last time Janick's guitar wasnt turned up loud enough and it bummed me out when he got to a solo and you had to know it by memory to be able to tell what he was playing. They are ungodly live, just undescriable to anyone who has never seen them. anyone pationate about Maiden knows the feeling right before they hit the stage, its unreal.

haha, deeper voice??? thats awful, im sorry...Maiden with a deep voice wouldnt be Maiden. High Pitches vocals with galloping bass lines and dual harmonizing leads are what make up the bands essnetial sounds. i wont hear of it!!!!!

he has his moments, but out of all 3 singers he was my least favourite. Blood on the worlds hands, man on the edge, clansan, the unbeliever, and the educated fool were my favourite with him. if he wasnt in Iron Maiden, i wouldnt be so hard on him :)

Iron Maiden refuses drugs. Sure they drink but they are reponsible drinkers not like many "rockstars"

there gettin old dude...

the oldest is Nicko who is 50, youngest is Bruce who is 45...they have plenty of time. Peter Criss of Kiss just turned 58 and they have been on tour for months lol, Maiden being a drug free band and a band who get along so well, touring for them is more of a joy than a job, they just hate being away from their families for such a long time on tour, but a few months they said they can spare....just not the 14th month world tours. they've done that and deserve time with their families at their age.

Yep, Maiden sure like performing. I've never seen a heavy metal band look so happy when singing songs about Satan and such. You don't get that from your Linkin Parks and Korns of the world.
