Does anyone else think the guitar solos on "Hallowed Be Thy Name" (in the running for R&M's best song by the way!) sound like they're divided into three parts? I mean, it would make sense at this point in Maiden's career because they have three guitarists, but back when it was just Dave and Adrian, how did they divide up that three-part solo? It sounds very clearly like the two guitar parts overlap and "switch" leads twice.

Okay. The "switches" that I'm talking about happen at 5:08 and 5:16 on the studio version of the song, in case anyone's confused as to what I'm talking about.

maby dave-adrian-dave, and then different in other songs so they would get as much playing each? or maby one of then played 2(thoose two at the same length as the 1 the other played?)
i think it was just for an effect for the song...

(im an bassist, i dont know what the hell im talking about...)

Riva
12-08-2004, 05:50 PM
I heard the part you were talking about, and it sounds as though they do switch parts, although the third guitar part seems to be just a fancy effect.

The switch sounds like it would have taken a bit of work, though.

IMO The best is SSOASS, it beautiful brings tears to my eyes.

Best to watch is SOTC, watch it on RiR Dave does an excellent job.

Best to play is The Trooper, it's great, especially when you can get another guitarist in and both do the same solo a la RiR with Adrian and Janick :thumb:

If there is something that pisses me off to no extent, it is when people say that Maiden is satanic and they worship the devil. Who else gets pissed when people say that? Of course it isnt true, they do have a dark side to some of their songs, but none of it is SATANIC! Maiden is, and forever shall be the best band. I favour them over all bands and they deserve it to. Theres something about every member that just makes it awesome.
BruceDickinson is a fencer as most of you must know, and a pilot as well. My dad knew someone who got to FENCE WITH BRUCE!
Steve Harris is the best song writter ive ever heard. (Most of their songs are written by him) Not to mention his skill with a bass guitar. He just makes it look so easy.
Dave Murray...well.... HE RULES! I love watching the DVD's and staring at his fingers as he moves up and down the fret board. I cant name many people who are better then him.
Adrain Smith is also an awesome guitarist. All is notes appear as if theyre going to tumble on top of eachother and make a big mess. But it never happens!
Nicko Mcbrain isnt the best drummer of all time, but he can definitely keep up a steady beat. He has awesome timing, Its funny to watch the videos of him. Hes almost constantly smiling. You may have noticed he has a wall of drums infront of him at most concerts. This is actually so he cant see the people in the audience! lol. Several years have gone by yet he still is nervous on stage. Hint: listen to still life on the album Peice of Mind and turn it up LOUD at the end. Nicko says something(but dont turn up too loud if family is nearby)
And finally, Janick Gers. Before he joined the band, they werent increadibly energetic on stage. Sure, they had some moving going, but after Janick joined, they all learned his high-energy style and it grew on them. Janick practically formed the style in which they portray on stage
well thats all i have to say for now, Maiden rules.

No, because that makes no sense.

Anyway, let's all stop bickering on the differences of the top two R&M songs, and let's see what "Stairway to Heaven" and "Hallowed..." have in common:

- Both by British bands
- Both recorded more than twenty years ago
- Both have awesome guitar solos
- Both are over seven minutes long
- Neither one was released as a single

And here's something weird: Both songs have their titles as the last line in the song. Wow!

How would I qualify to be on the list? Although I don't post in here much, I've been listening to Maiden for over 3 years and I think I will continue to listen to them for the rest of my life.

I remember I tried to join the Maiden Army many moons ago, but that was when I was a n00b...

I'm a n00b, but a huge maiden fan! I'd like to join please Mr.

I think the 'Authority' should make an entry test for the Maiden army, like there was last year.

Erm...ok, first Question:

What was Iron Maidens First single, when was it released and what was the lineup?

This just a bit fun, probably won't mean a thing to getting in the Maiden Army :thumb:
