Its kinda odd how Run To the Hills is their most famous song yet not their best by any stretch of the imagination.I mean i love it but..
There's three reasons for that:
1. It's their poppiest (to the extent that it's less then 4 minutes (I think, not all versions) and only has one guitar solo)
2. It's the song that got them onto Top Of The Pops
3. It was their first single with Bruce Dickenson on vocals, which added something fantastic to the band.

I always wondered why he said "Beers"...
 He likes saying silly things.maybe all their Beers were spilling in the mosh pit-aahhh sacrilage-Wasting Beer
Bruce is hilarious.Actually i was listening to his rock show the other night and he was on about how David Lee Roth is training to become a paramedic and he says"yeh and if hes ever covering Rush he can sing The Temples Of Syringe" I thought twas very funny

A vote for "Hallowed Be Thy Name" is a vote for all that is good in metal. Even Metallica fans can't vote for their band's song, "Call of Kthulu" without hesitating. It's boring, it's got a borrowed Mustaine riff in it, and most importantly... it's not as good as HBTN!
Run To The Hills has Maiden's catchiest chorus. I think that is why everyone loves it. Even my twin sister doesn't mind it.

Does anyone know where I can find live mp3 versions (if there are any) of the following songs: All My Love, The Lemon Song, Ten years gone, Babe Im Gonna Leave You. Some other rare material would be also appreciated, thanks!

So, like, why not write your FA, and then send it to us, we'll like add bits in or correct facts etc. if you want, and send it back to you for final editing before you put it up.
Cool. I'll e-mail it to the Maiden Authority, so that you guys can approve it. :thumb:

Dudes... i just heard the screams of the roadie who broke his arm at the end of Sign of the cross at Rock in Rio..(mostly becouse i was listening for it..) that was 'kin freaky.. if you use Sourround on it you hear it quite good, its when bruce joins rest maiden at the scene(when he starts singing again at the very end of the song) he was supposed to come up on an somkinda platform with wings, but somthing went wrong, and the plat form landed on the arm of an roadie and broked it.. didnt know how many who knows about this from before but ****... thoose screams... :upset:

What song do you guys think is better.....The Trooper or Number of the Beast??
ashman
11-30-2004, 11:28 AM
The Trooper and NOTB both have good points:
Trooper:
Gallop Rhythm :thumb:
Twin solos
Chantterific chours
Great Sextuplet riff
Great song to sing when going into battle
NOTB:
Great intro, second only to SOTC
Simple Power chord verse
Great song to "mosh" to
Great twin solo
Great camp chaos video :thumb:
I can't choose though.
you see Bruce in the Flaming wings on the out of the silent planet video, I really wish it was on RiR... :(

I like flight of Icarus or Run to the hills best for vids
but flight of icarus (the song) is not one of their best
rtth has a kinda star wars-y thing going on in the video
and steve CAN'T sing ...
but who cares!?!
he's the best bassist and songwriter in the world!
ive only seen the camp chaos video for run to the hills, quite random
ive seen videos for 2 minutes to midnight, number of the beast, wicker man, can i play with madness and bring your daughter to the slaughter
on 2 minutes to midnight when bruce is headbangin (well sort of) it looks like hes got a wig on because of how his hair sort of bounces

so, question:
should we say to the MX mods "Look, authorities are really good ideas, it means that noobs get their questions answered without being insulted and/or patronized, and we stop people being c**ts (i.e. that dude that called YDLoad an idiot) so why not encourage other Official band threads to make authorities?"
yes or no?
or do we want to be unique in having thread fountains of knowledge/policemen/cool dudes?
^ my band covers that
cool. its one hell of a song. also you can make it sound really evil if its sung deep enough / with enough of a "growl"
being unique would be cool...although it would stop poor buggers getting flamed in other threads as well...like some guy in the sabbath thread who was on about a load of crap

Did anyone watch VH1's "40 Most Awesomely Bad Metal Songs?" Number 36 was "Bring Your Daughter..."
I think it was a good idea, because how often is Maiden on any of the music channels? Not very often here in the US. Also, they prefaced their choice by saying, "Iron Maiden is so metal that the world's top metal-ologists use them to calibrate their instruments. But even the best bands make mistakes..." So it was nice to see Maiden on TV.

I think the consensus was that it's far below Maiden's standards, and it verges on being a "sell-out" song because it went to number 1 in the UK despite not being as good as almost any other Maiden single.
I personally love the fact that someone tried to rhyme "daughter" with "slaughter," but you've gotta admit that it doesn't really make much sense.

Also:
Bring your daughter... we decided to do because the crowd can get REALLY into it (SEE: Live At Donnington) and stuff. Has been done... it would really be great if the regulars from this thread posted in the thread to approve of your support. YDLoad and Riva already put in their support, and, seeing as they're 4-star members, this should help, but obviously the more that say it's a good idea, the more that the powers that be shall take the idea on board
Arucard
12-02-2004, 02:22 PM
i reckon the authority is a good idea, but the only bands i have a ridiculous knowledge on are the filaments, pro-pain and of course maiden, so i guess i would be at a loss.

No Problem, you seem to know what your talking about...
I just been on my daily drinking session, I met this cool barman, who told me how to down aftershock properly, it had more of a kick than 85% Absinthe. It was 'kin Ace. Oh and I need to check how much it's gonna cost me to go to Paris in June to see the Hallowed band...
Gur: I think just about every poster in this thread agrees with the idea.

That's the proposal we're putting forward, to give you a brief ideas about what our authority is.

yup.
im just wondering GurS, i know you love Nicko with all of your drumming heart, but what do you think is his best song? (drum wise) i may have to be conservative and say 'where eagles dare' but the drumming on 'hallowed be thy name' and 'the prisoner' (when he does it, not clive) both seem to be good.

12-02-2004, 02:38 PM
*Puts on Gur Mask* I think the best Nicko song is..........
*Drum Roll*
........Out of the Silent Planet.
I think the Run to the Hills Biography should be required reading for the Maiden Crew :thumb:
After much deliberation, I'm gonna say Out Of The Silent Planet. Fills wise, it's not very good, as there are basically no fills, but as for a beat... the bass-drum triplets you hear from the second chorus onwards incredible. He's doing that with ONE FOOT. It's near impossible, Nicko's probably got the fastest foot in the world, and that's probably the best example of that fact. Other good examples of feet work are The Wicker Man, The Evil That Men Do, No More Lies and The Mercenary.
Though the intro fills on Where Eagles Dare are pretty **** good.

yeh out of the silent planet is good, but i can do the triplets for a time at least (but i have a DW 5000 series pedal, and have been playing three years so u know...) Clive era wise, 'iron maiden' kicks total drumming *** on the record and so does 'muerders in the rue morgue' and 'genghis kahn'
ghengis kahn i find simple. it's fast, but simple. can you do those triplets with one foot, though?

I think the Trooper is a pretty good song Drum wise...So many fills. Nicko surely sold his sould to the Devil for such mastery on the tubs.
Oh, and a futher reason why Nicko is amazing - he's entirely 100% self-taught

im not bothered about being in the authority. its like shadow_stalker says, i really dont have a huge knowledge of maiden, just knowledge of some things about them. nice to be recognised though :thumb:
I'm a great fan of the three big folk stars - Cat Stevens, Bob Dylan and Paul Simon (and Art Garfunkel).

maiden are definitely the best band in the world...also i just saw the video for wildest dreams on scuzz...1st time ive seen it
theres also a power metal band call HammerFall i like, i havnt heard much of their stuff but i may buy an album after christmas...dont jnow much about them except theyre possibly playing download next year

ahh ok. well its all about using the bounce of the beater of the bass drum, and using it to strike again and again with alot more ease than doing all of them straight
think of it, as ashman said, as a pendulam.
its like a drum roll, but on a bass drum.
i really dont understand much of this as the only time ive played drums was at lord_abortion's house before we went to see maiden and a few years ago at school when music was compulsory

Should we also review all the dvds? I'm already doing the Number Of The Beast DVD, and Joe's doing Early Days.
I'll do Visions if no-one else wants it.
