It was too subtle.
Some of Maiden's fans aren't as intelligent as Maiden themselves, my boy. :p
So, what does everyone think of as the best theme Maiden has covered. By theme I mean a particular place, time period, etc.
I was thinking that Powerslave and Rime Of The Ancient Mariner are really cool Egyptian style songs. They even have a real Egyptian feel to the music. What do you think?
They do war **** well - The Trooper, Aces High, Paschendale...

I can play everything except The Trooper with two fingers, and I'm working on that one! Phantom of the Opera is where I decided to start using two because the triplet pattern of three fingers doesn't work for the even-numbered notes of the blazing intro (once the drums come in).

Yeh, hence the name "Afraid to shoot strangers". Nearly all of the war songs by Maiden have a desperation type theme: The Trooper "As I lay forgotten and alone, without a tear I draw my parting Groan". The Aftermath "I'm left alone asking why". Blood on the Worlds hand "There's chaos across the border, and one day it could be happening to us". Paschendale "On his dying word he prays, tell the world of Paschendale". And there are more...

total eclipse is FAR too underated
killers and drifter are for too under-rated from that album. I personally like gangland (shock!). for me, to tame a land is overrated. Flash of the Blade is under rated, only the good die young and the clairvoyant is underrated, hooks in you, judas be my guide, the fugitive, judgement of heaven, out of the silent planet, the thin line between love and hate, face in the sand, electric journey man.

It's a great riff, so I'm not complaining :)
The Age of Innocence is about the current situation in the country, Steve said his main inspiration for that song comes from being a father, and worrying about the crime .etc, and how it's not safe to be young anymore.
state of the country isnt exactly great. living there could be a lot better. like if there was a decent government. **** anti-hunt mps
the Age of Innocence is also a book.
There's another theme Maiden do really well... books. Or, stories/poems etc.
Brave New World, Out Of The Silent Planet, Rime Of The Ancient Marinner, To Tame A Land, Flight of Icarus, Number Of The Beast, the whole 7th son album (based on a legend), the list goes on and on. I think the Wicker man was also originally a book, and you could losely put Phantom in here too.

The Wicker Man was originally a movie, and one of the lines from the song, "Piper At The Gates Of Dawn", is a chapter from "The Wind In The Willows", as well as a Pink Floyd album.

Yea, I know, what is the difference anyway? There is open 0's in Wasted Years? Plus I like that background going in Losfer Words.
I'm pretty sure it is about the plight of the Egyptians, in that their Pharoah's are convinced that they are gods, and as such are far too impressed with themselves. This has led to the land being ruined, because all the Pharoah's do is raise monuments of themselves. The hymnal also refers to this.
Then the first verse is about the current Pharoah, and how he realises his foolish ways after the gods punish him; in a dream, perhaps? "Just a babe in the black abyss, /No reason for a place like this...
So he agrees to conceive his new child with a spirit in order to ensure the child is a benevolent, modest ruler. (2nd verse)
And the third verse refers to him wishing the child good luck, as he must re-unite Egypt, and bring an end to all the pain and suffering caused by the greedy pharoah's.
Don't know what the chorus means though.
This is based loosely on an ancient pharoah, but I can't remember which one it was.

The riff in Losfer word is like has less open then Wasted years. The only other difference is the speed. Apart from that, they are identical. The intro is also very similar, except for the tapping on the 12th fret. I think those riffs were written by Adrian.

I have no idea, I don't think it could Dave or Janick, it's too "chesty" if you get what I mean.
And talking to Janick in Norwegian, whilst on stage, why ain't you playing?

ain't it funny how it ends...
good song...
It is going to be maiden vs. maiden in these polls
run to the hills is possibly the weakest song there IMO
but it is magnificent
but I prefer the trooper et al.
it's all good!

Its kinda odd how Run To the Hills is their most famous song yet not their best by any stretch of the imagination.I mean i love it but..

True, I think it's because it's short, snappy, and gives you what Maiden are in one short song.
