or that lol.
I'd prefer to hear "out of the silent planet" more than "the fallen angel".
i think thats a toss up for me really. The Fallen Angel has one of my favourite chorus' out of all Maiden's tunes and Adrian's lead at the end is fantastic, while i love the melody of Out of the Silent plant very much and Nicko gallops like a stallion hehe. Overall, either one id be satisfied....Dream of Mirrors (aside from The Thin Line Between Love and Hate) is my least favourite song on the album.

If Iron Maiden performed with a symphony (like metallica, kiss, scorpions etc...) what songs would fit best with that mixture. my first vote goes to "blood brothers".
Rime Of The Ancient Mariner. Can you imagine the atmosphere the orchestra could provide? :thumb:

Brave New World [song] would be pretty sweet with symphony. So would GOTN.

Hallowed Be Thy Name. It's already one of Maiden's best songs ever, and orchestras would probably get lost in the galloping rhythms of most of their other songs (not much fast percussion in a symphony).

Oh gosh, that either sound extremely great, or horrible as in the way CoF butchered the song. A other good one would be Revelations... its a slower tempo Maiden song so I could see that sounding beautiful with an orchestra.

Iron Maiden are the best metal band of all time, and hence the best band of all time. I have almost all their songs either on dl or cd..god i love them. The only metals bands to even come close are Judas Priest or 3 Inches of Blood. The only thing that makes me mad is that they never play anywhere near me. The closest show is in LA which is a 15 hour drive. Guess ill just have to keep watching my DVDs.
I seriously hope they come to Aus. I'm gonna get those tickets, and be at the concert with bells on.

What guitar player would fit in well with Iron Maiden (aside from H, Davey, n Janick)...it can be a metal player, virtuiso, rock player...anyone.
ALSO...what guitar player would sound good playing a solo in a particular Maiden song. example...i think Alexi Laiho from COB could put a wonderful lead in "the wickerman" (even though it is one of Adrian's finest leads!) id still like to hear what he could do with it.

Ok, I have a topic for discussion...if one of the band members dropped down dead (I hope that doesn't happen) and you played the instrument they did (or sing in bruces case), what songs would you play?
I would probably play infinite dreams, or even SOTC, or CSIT on Bass or guitar.
Out of the silent planet all the way. I couldn't do it nicko style though, I'd use a double kick pedal
YDload
10-28-2004, 02:29 PM
Since I play the bass, the correct answer would be... kill myself. I could play The Trooper with three fingers, but that is blasphemous to Steve. And even if I could play The Number of the Beast live with thousands of screaming fans, I would never look as cool and confident as Steve does. I would probably pull a groin muscle trying to put a foot up on one of the amps like Steve is prone to doing.

I'd come in for Dave Murray, to play with Adrian Smith would be awesome. Although he'd have to play the solos, but i would back him with some serious rhythm. We'd play a best-of set, along with some great underrated songs like The Loneliness Of The Long Distance Runner. :thumb:

For Steve.... Blood Brothers.. Not his hardest piece, but the feelings in this song is just.. ah, wonderful... i would get an vintage fender P-bass, paint it like his west ham bass, string it with his signature strings, add an badass II bridge and make Seymour Duncan make me an EXACT copy of his pickups.. and i would play it through an Trace Elliot GP12X Pre amp with two Marshall 4x12 cabinets... well, i still hate Jackson for ruining Trace Elliot(wich By The way, is steves Pre amp branch...) but Gibson quited the whole company about an year ago...i hate big company's that buys up everything and destroys their quality...
Anyway, about Steves Main Bass :p people say that he have always used the same P-bass, right? From Live At Rainbow to Rock in rio, well, it cant be... On Live at rainbow you can clearly see the headstock of the bass, well, yeah thats an bass from the 70's, becouse it have the FEnder Logo, and the Name of the bass Splashed out all over the headstock, and well, when you see on the headstock of the blue and the west ham one, you dont see the logo clearly at all(infact, on the wite one i dont think you see it at all...) wich means the blue have to be made either Before 1970, or after 1980... i know many of you dont care. but i just had to say :p
and on the 70's basses the Logo is black, so it would be easy to see :p

In a recent interview with Kerrang.com, stand-up comedian Steve Hughes, a metal fanatic whose shows spin around the subject, explained why heavy metal was important to him.
"My friends in Sweden are total IRON MAIDEN fanatics," he stated. "They've got every MAIDEN record that was released in every country. That's dedication. Masterful. So they went to Croatia to see them. While they were on the train, passengers were being robbed by Croatian soldiers. They were sitting there in their MAIDEN shirts and bullet-belts freaking out. Suddenly, the soldiers confronted them armed with machine guns. They noticed their shirts and yelled 'IRON MAIDEN! The greatest band in the world! You are okay!' and left them alone. Heavy metal will save your life. If they were into WESTLIFE, they would have been shot in the face."

I don't actually think they have played Out Of the Silent Planet live...Get the album if you want to hear the intro.
BTW Phantom Best song on the first album, possibly one of the greatest songs to play
Out of the Silent Planet is by far my favourite song from BNW... i don't think they play it live coz Nicko can't repeat the amazing speed of the triplets with one foot he achieved on the album... I imagine doing those triplets night after night for months on end would nigh-on destroy the muscles in your right foot. this is pure speculation, mind you, based on no fact what soever.

The guitar for The troopper is cool. I play bass and sometimes it sucks with iron maiden because he wont go mad like he used to take run to the hills for example. At the end he just played whatever came to him and it was cool.

They play it live on the Visions of the Beast DVD. It's faster as well.
They didn't actually, it's just a "montage" (I like that word) of loads of other recordings on the BNW tour...
yeh. As those who have Rock In Rio know, Out Of The Silent Plant was not on the BNW tour tracklist. so they never played it live.

Help ! Maiden Fans !
--------------------
Adrian is one of my favourite guitarists and I'd really like to copy him. I mean, I tried a lot to sound like him...........not his equipment, his playing style. I know these things used a lot in H's playing:
1. Guitar harmonies
2. Great Tapping parts
3. Bluesy sound
4. Pinch harmonics
5. Brilliant control of tremolo
Maybe you can add other specific "tricks" of Mr.H to help me. I'll be glad if you help me.
And also, what scales does he use in improvising except blues scales??? Anyone???
*confused*
Thanks a lot :)
I know that someone in this thread found on Kazaa an Adrian Smith Guitar Lesson, and that person said that after watching that lesson they found some of H's solo's easier. So I reckon that's probs your best bet.

Thanks for that, I actually have that video. It's nothing special, except a few nice licks from his "psycho motel" stuff. :)
And to me Dave is a bit boring. No offence to anyone. It's just my opinion.
Adrian is my hero :)
Adrian is a lot more exciting to watch on stage, especially before he left the band (he doesn't seem so agile since he put on a ton of weight).
Also, Adrian always played exciting guitars when Davey stuck to the strat. H has gone for the strat now aswell, though apparantly he played a Jackson Flying V on the DOD tour.
One of my mental pictures that defines a guitar hero is picturing H on stage with his Lado Earth on LAD. (Live After Death, not Live At Donnington [though the later is the superior album])
Dave is my favourite by far. Adrian doesn't do as much for me as Dave.

I don't get how you would find Dave boring, sure he's not as flashy as Janick or Adrian, but hes a much better guitarist. I think Janick and Adrian are equal. Sometimes I wonder how that much talent fits into that one band. Crazy **** :chug:

Dave isn't as flashy but Jannick is definately the most talented player in maiden his solos on X-Factor are more visionary than Dave's.

What!? I am sorry you guys but Adrian and Janick just simply aren't as good as Dave. Yeah they fvcking rock and are some of the world's best guitarists, but aren't as good as Dave :D

Also Dave's playing is way more clean than Janicks. He scratches the other strings when he solos(Janick) and doesn't mute the other strings as well as Dave either. Adrian is as clean as Dave, just not as good in my opinion.

Nice tatto, even got the Sweat band to match...
That's a sweet tat... and a very nice axe. KV1 or 2?
And Ash, I'm all for that - how about "The Maiden Authority"? since we seem to know just about all there is to do with maiden, and every time someone has a questions, it's pretty much always one of us four that answer it, normally in much further detail than the person wants.

Haha, i have finally found the Iron Maiden thread
Maiden are possibly my favourite band ever, and the first metal album i ever bought was NPFD.
They are totally great, and even after so many years of listening to them, they still sound fresh as ever.
In reference to earlier arguments about the best guitarist... for me, its got to be Davey for pure talent, but as a stage presence, Adrain and Jannick do more for me, and Bruce as a a frontman is totally amazing. I think Davey is a shy quiet person, which is possibly why he isnt such a big stage presence.
Favourite Maiden song......
too many to chose from, but right now, in would have to say Heaven Can Wait...
Favourite album.....
even harder, but probably Piece of Mind
happy posting fellow maiden fans
