Steve only use 2 fingers(me too :p i cant play with three for ****..)... and i schooled my teacher with that song(not to brag but he went like "um.. yeah... let me get my pick" :p) its not that hard realy... how long have you been playing?

ive had my bass for a ear but ive only had 5 months of lessons at 20 mins a week, if you watch the vidio on the iron maidne album it looks distictly like he uses 3 fingers. i tend to be able to lay most stuff with jsut my first finger which is good but i cant do that

Yes, I've noticed it in my own two-finger playing; the ring finger is not very independent and will frequently flail along with the other two when they are moving very quickly and ferociously.

Well when I saw them in sheffield, I payed £46 for the ticket and travel...I think the ticket itself was £26...so its not that expensive. But expect to pay more if you see them at a festival. They are doing a festival tour next year, which IS the Early days tour (well they say the setlist is going to be from the first 3 albums).

Powermetal is like In Flames (moot)

Maiden are NWOBHM, New Wave Of British Heavy Metal.

so i suggest checking out other NWOBHM bands, such as sampson (bruce's old band) and judas priest. you may want to check out Paul Di'Anno and the Killers, too

I just picked up Iron Maiden, and Piece of Mind, both are amazing albums. I really like Paul's voice, this being the first I heard from him, it's not better than Bruce, but it's kinda interesting. I love Remember Tomorrow, especially when he hold "SKY" so long and high. And The Trooper is the best Iron Maiden song ever.

umm in some ways a few songs do, like "heaven can wait" with the up-lifting chorus, and "sun and steel" is like an old old style power metal song with its chorus as well. The into to "the prophecy" is as well id say, overall they have the lyrical themes for power metal but the musically they dont play power metal.

my first studio album by them was "no prayer for the dying" and i was obsessed with every song on it, probley why i hail it as such an underated album. I still find that to be one of my most played albums by them, the newest is Dance of Death because i had all their albums previous to that being released and i couldnt have been happier with it :)

hehe, i was only gone for a few days haha. did you read my Metalliac concert review? it was a grand on indeed (that was saturday). Power metal i think is the most rewarding style to get into because there is so much that can be done with it, its not a limiting genre like black / death metal where there is a set pattern (though i do live black metal, not as big on death). I have sooooooo many differnet power metal bands that ive found, the large majority of them i enjoy alot but i still go back to the leaders of the genre as my favourites :)

I was at this Metal night club yesterday, and I heard an acoustic version of Number the Beast, twas worse cover ever...I also missed Can I play with Madness last night, and I missed Run to the hills last week and the week before. I feels so dirty.

I picked my friend up to go to uni, and as we were driving, I had Powerslave pumping on the stereo. So any, my friend, who is convinced he is a metal head after graduating from Linkin Park to Dream Theater and Tool (both of whom I love, by the way), told me at length that bands as simple and untechnical as Iron Maiden bored him, since if he wanted to listen to thrashy music without skill he would listen to punk.

So I put on Losfer Words, and saw the self-important smirk melt off of his face. Then I skipped to Rime Of The Ancient Mariner and finished him off, especially when that long interlude in the middle comes in. It was especially awesome as I had the bass cranked so he could hear Steve Harris' pure awesomeness. Just had to say how much I love it. At least now he will listen to other bands besides Dream Theater and Tool.

the bassist plays with an 5 stringer and an pick! thats not allowed on Maiden songs!!!!very dissrespectful against steve..

not that bassiest, Robin Graves played on that version and he was a finger bassiest, their new bassiest Dave Pubis does use a pic however :)

Alexi sings in the style of black metal, if you could understand every word it wouldnt sound right. When a band does a cover of another groups songs they throw in some of their own style as well. If that alone makes the song "terrible" than id say you have a terrible outlook on their cover, as the music had never sounded better for the song.

well then whats the point in having lryics if you cant actualy understand them?

and i hate that style of singing. i know you ve to put your own mark ona song but i think they put a bad mark ont he song they did ruin the trooper. i know i wouldnt be abe to play it tht well but i didnt like it all the same

i think COF's version is one of the best Maiden covers out there. Wonderfully orchestraed keyboard intro and the guitar tone (as well as solos) are top knotch, Nick even through in some hasty drums as well. Dani of course sung it in his typical fashion which gave it their personality, aside from Children of Bodom's cover of "the trooper" id say its the best ive heard.
Ever Heard the iced earth covers? those are pretty good too if you havnt :)

Also woot my band is finally listening to me and doing some maiden :p doing the wicker man and the clairvoyant at the local battle of the bands^.^

more people enjoy it than dislike it, so i wouldnt say its a bad mark as Bodom have an giant following. When bands do cover songs, part of the reason they choose to do them is to see how a song would sound if anther group wrote it..or to put a more modern twist to an old song that inspired the group. If they play it identically the same what the use of even covering it when we already have the original? It's a way to show you show praise to a group by adding in your own elements to their songs.

that is true but i dont think that style of singing works oan a maiden song. i think they are made for bruce too much and it just sounds wrogn when sung like them. i think the music is done well on the trooper. but just the vox. (i am very picky about vox) obv ou disagree but thers leaving you mark which you should do but i just cant stand those covers.

Easy solos: Number of the Beast, The Trooper, The Sign of the Cross, and Hallowed be thy Name...can't go wrong with them :thumb:

Best Video: Probably Camp Choas version of Aces High, Best video ever.

the aces high one is great, but the trooper one is better.

and the 2nd solo in blood brothers is easy. the running free 'soloish interlude' is easy, but it's just played fast

honestly...i know many many Maiden solos on guitar and Adrian are EASILY the hardest to play. Janick follows the same pattern, a F-major scale usually...and speed picks the majority of it, Davey's are preety rough at times due to his hammer-on speed and legatto style but overall if you know one Murray solo you can get the others down. Adrain however throws in alot of old bluesy licks, just he plays them so fast and intermingles them with speedy scales, taps, and many many bends. Of his, belive it or not "wasted years" is really really a bitch to play without messing up.
