Recently there was a festival here than had an assortment of folk and jazz players, and one group played "pirate" folk-ish music. Basically your typical fun drunken pirate kind you hear when the subject comes up. Does anyone know of groups that make this type of music?

I've wondered the same thing. I've heard pirate folk music in a couple games... sounded really awesome.

There is a band called Battleheart who are pirate metal.
They are pretty awsome.

Verbal Deception is the best pirate metal ye shall ever hear.
I don't think that he was looking for pirate metal, though

Whoa sweet!
I'll have to bust it out next time I play Sid Meier's Pirates.
Apparently there's some compilation about to come out of pirate music by a lot of really amazing, famous people. Tom Waits is one of them, but I forgot who else. Google it or something.

Maybe try searching for a compilation of sea shanties or something. I dunno if real pirates had much time to lay down recordings though.

Some of The Pogues songs remind me of pirate music.
