View Full Version : Does Anyone Actually Know All Their Songs?
PECOAE

Has anyone here actually heard every one of the songs on his/her library?
I haven't.
I sometimes leave it on shuffle and listen to stuff just because its there.
I decide if something sounds bad, I delete it from my library, my iPod needs the space.
But I have this neurosis about not breaking up albums - damn Radiohead.
So do you guys know all your songs?
And if not, how do you guys get to know them?

Yeah, same here.
I download too much at a time, and sometimes I listen to one song off a 13-song album and don't listen to the rest for a long time.
Basically, the only way I listen to an album all the way through is if I love the band or buy the CD.

Yeah, I've listened to my whole library. I'll download lots of things, but they only get added to my library if I'm serious about thoroughly listening to it. I own the vast majority of my library anyway, which keeps it all familiar.
I go crazy when I have a lot of things that I haven't heard in my library, I'm kinda particular about my music.
Most of if I've heard. The only stuff I haven't is what my brother downloaded, and I get to it eventually.

I wouldn't say that I know all of it, but I have definitely listened to my entire library (3486 songs). When I download an album I try to listen to the whole thing asap, because if I don't, I probably won't get around to it. Yeah.

I force listen, so I have to hear everything at least once be I file it away on my huge external hard drive forever.

im pretty sure ive listened to all the songs on my library, but every once and a while i come across one that i havent heard before. mostly its from a cheap @$$ cd that i got, listened to and decided that it sucked, while there was a gem of a song that i didnt get too.

i've got hundreds of songs that I haven't listened to in my library because I download too much.
I generally find that I don't get round to listening to the new stuff often because i'm usually in the mood to hear something particular that I already own. If it's a new album by a band I really like or love though, i'll usually listen to it pretty quickly.

I've listened to pretty much everything on my playlist at least once, some post rock stuff i've only listened to one time and thats it.
I've heard all of the songs on my MP3 player. I don't download music a whole lot so I'm sure that helps.

According to iTunes, I've listened to a little more than 2/3 of my iPod library. I put my iPod on shuffle quite a bit for that exact reason. I've discovered how great more than a few albums really are through that method.

I'm pretty sure I've listened to a vast majority of the stuff on my playlist, but I don't listen to very much of it on a regular basis. I couldn't name all of them though.

I'll bet I have over 100 albums I've never heard all the way through.
HELL no, I haven't. I accumulate much more music than I listen to on a daily basis, so it just keeps piling up. But it's beautiful, because pretty much whenever I'm in the mood to check out something new, I can do it instantly.
I've probably listened to 98% of my library, but I don't exactly know all the songs. If I was to put my library on shuffle, I would still get loads of songs that I don't recognise.

As far as I know, I've listened to every song on my Windows Media Player, other than what my brother downloaded. I don't download that much though. And I could be wrong.

Same, although since I've realized that I could use my uni's fast connection and a usb hard drive to download uploads and take 'em home, I've started downloading more. But I've got a wimpy *** hard-drive as it is. I've heard everything I own. Know... maybe not. But I've heard it all.
I have about 23,000 songs on my computer, and I have only listened to a fraction of them.

23, 000?!
How big of a hard drive do you have?
I have 4500 songs and it takes up 30 gigs!

You must either have a lot of long songs, or you have high bit-rates. I have about 7,500 songs, which takes up 20 GB.
I've listened to everything I have, except for some of the stuff I downloaded over the weekend.

I have pretty high bit rates, which comes of torrenting then buying but not uploading.

I've listened to all of the songs on my computer at least once, and I wouldn't dream of buying an album and not listening to it (although sometimes I don't get more than two listens out of it before growing bored, ex. 10,000 Days). Not all of the songs on my iTunes playlist are listed as being played, but that's because I may have skipped the end and it doesnt count as a play then.

I have 25000 songs or so. I've listened to over half of it probably.
When my brother puts all his stuff onto his laptop when it arrives (which should be any day now) and moves out, he's left it up to me to go through his music and see what I want to keep, and what I don't. There's some of that stuff I never gave a proper chance, so now I will.

I've only got a little over 4gb of music on my computer, but I could safely say I've listened to all of it. I can recite the lyrics to a majority of the songs on command. I guess it's because I listen to music all the time, to block out all the unpleasant noises.

I've heard all of my songs for sure, but I don't know them all necessarily.
I always listen to an album all the way through, even when I download it. I know if I can't listen to it all the way through at least once, then it's not worth it. I'm compulsive like that.

A few months ago I'd listened to all of it, but now I have some new stuff I've picked up and not gotten to yet.
But I don't really know all of them even discouting those I haven't heard. I know less than half probably (of ~15000 songs)

Very rarely.
I usually buy ones I've listened to.
There are some exceptions with my favourite bands: Radiohead, Death Cab, etc.

"But I have this neurosis about not breaking up albums - damn Radiohead."
I'm the same way. I believe albums should be taken as a whole statement so if I'm going to download a few songs from an album I usually end up getting the whole thing. This ends up leaving a lot of songs that I haven't heard on my playlist.
asymm
08-19-2006, 04:13 PM
If you care about an album being an entire statement, then why don't you listen to it as such?
I have over 10,000 songs in my library and I have only listened to a fraction of it. Occasionally I'll go on "deleting-sprees" and delete all the music I don't like. As a matter of fact I think I'm going to do that now.
Yea I really need to go on a deleting spree.

Just because you're all for animal rights doesn't mean you'll stop eating McDonald's.
Though I'm starting to listen the whole way through to some albums.
And sometimes even if the album is bad - but its still an artist I like, I'll uncheck it from my iPod but keep it in my library. Or if I haven't heard it or had time to get to it.
And I do deleting sprees VERY often.

I've created an automated playlist that includes only songs with a playcount of zero. And its pretty much empty because I force myself to listen to it.

I do that all the time, but still never gets empty. I must have about 2000 songs not listened to - and the playcount thing no worky because a year ago, I reset all of the playcounts in my library, so now even stuff I have heard is 0. I shouldn't have done that.
