hey guys, i've posted a vid of me trying to play lateralus by tool from the tricky hi-hat part in the middle. here is the link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M4F5c6opGJk

i'm just starting to learn double bass (after 5 years of playing. i always put it off), and was wondering what danny plays around 7:10 into the song. i can't tell what it is by ear. can anyone help?

p.s a couple of points about the video; yeah i know my drums sound terrible, but i ain't got round to putting new heads on (or tuning the ones on it! haha)

good playing... you should sync the song with your playing

Evans G1 Coated over Evans G1 Clear. Or Coated Amb/Clear Amb.

Ill say video was alright. Drum sound and skill level wasnt nearly good enough for what I expect someone playing for 5 years to be at.

The number of years he's been playing doesnt matter. Its all about how hard hes worked at it, and how dedicated he's been. And i thought it was good.

Leprechauns is right, you could play for 10 years but put prioritize other hobbies or show no interest in it and, therefore, suck. For instance, I have owned a drumset for 4 years but only consider myself to really have started drumming 3 years ago.

And as for heads, Evans G2 or Remo Emps on top and G1 or Remo Ambassadors on the bottom sounds immense. Avoid Pinstripes like the plague.

what would you expect as an adequate skill level?

I would say you are doing great for 5 years <shrug>

Its dumb to rate drummers like that though, Some people have the ability to play all day, everyday. Others have full time jobs and can only play a few times a week.

But on average I think you are ahead of most people I see playing for 5 years.

actually i'm going to agree with this guy. It's called criticism guys. he never once said 'this guy is **** i'm so much better' he just stated that for someone of 5 years he was expecting something a little better.

Nice, it was pretty tight. Ok things aren't going to sound good with a camera like that and those heads...but the playing was :)

^I like the idea of the pages you can look at through the lenses to make them 3D.

Oh yeah man...The video poster is WAY better than me but ive only been playing a year or less. His APC videos are much better so I retract my original statement.

i appreciate your views and input on my playing. i must add that i've been at university for the last 2 years (without my kit) so only get to play every 2-3 months or so apart from at summer, so time constraints limit my progress.

and yeah, the new tool album cover is good, but i do prefer the packaging of lateralus overall.
