I just found out about this band a couple of days ago and really like them. Does anyone else think this is a good band?

Certainly not I.

Yeah.
Though how you found about them a couple of days ago is freaking me out.
They were huge about a year and a half ago as the new indie SENSATIONS.
But they're pretty cool.
I especially like Tulips and Like Eating Glass.

seriously? a year and a half ago? wow - how come they only have one full length album then? have they broken up? (or at least they have one album with over like 7 songs)

Yeah they were the "next big thing" with their EP in late 2004, then their debut was released in early 2005. I don't listen to them much any more but, however derivative, I like most of their songs.

Gang of Four is the most obvious one but basically every British new wave/post-punk band of the late 70s/early 90s and every British indie band from 2004 on.

ya, they sound a lot like 9 black alps - that's something i've noticed

Nine Black Alps is a lot more grungy than Bloc Party.

Bloc, Nine sounds too much like they want to be the next big thing.
Bloc sounds it.

Bloc Party is okay.
I listen to them occasionally.
They are very derivative, especially of Gang of Four, but they have some good songs.

Has anyone noticed how loud the drums are on Silent Alarm? It's really annoying.
Then again, that album is overproduced in whole.

I seem to be the only 'Indie' kid in my town who hates them. They're so booooooooring.

I don't mind them, some of their songs I actually like alot.
Like Eating Glass is a pretty awesome song.

A lot of their songs sound the same and the vocalist gets kinda annoying, but they're okay.

The record gets really mediocre after about the first 5 songs. There are some real gems on the first half though.

ya, you're right about that. Right now I can't stop listening to Positive Tension - that song's kinda different from some of their other stuff IMO

they're just ok.
i got to see them live recently and their act becomes quite lame. but i think it's just because they were playing their set after Broken Social Scene's so Bloc Party was sort of anti-climactic.

I like some of their stuff more than others - most of Silent Alarm is good.

someone said about the drums being loud, they are. bvut then again the drummer is really good, so you can forgive them for putting him high in the mix.

i always thought the drums were bloc partys best feature. hes a solid drummer all in all. pretty simple but unique.

i personally absolutely love the band....i didn't like them at all when they first came out but now like almost two years later im in love with them. The dueling guitars, active bassline, and amazing drums are what drew me back to them. The drums are so damn catchy that i feel like buying a drum set and playing them ^_^ . I absolutely love: Little Thoughts, Skeleton, Like Eating Glass, Banquet, This Modern Love, Staying Fat, & Helicopter.

They're a good band, that were fun for a while but hardly any lasting power. I rarely listen to them now, their songs get boring quickly. Like Eating Glass, Helicopter and Positive Tension I like.

Bloc Party is one of the worst bands to come out in a while.
Not true. But they're pretty bad.

Silent Alarm is one of the best debut albums I've heard in a while.

Yeah, I thought there was some great songs on Silent Alarm and I still listen to it occasionally. I think they are a pretty good band and I'm interested to see what they are going to do next. :thumb:

I never thought they were that good.
But THEN I saw them at V festival 2006 and thought they were incredible (partly because of the guitar and drum skill), especially 2 More Years, they had the best sound quality of the whole day. Bloc Party> Franz Ferdinand. They deserve alot of credit as a live act. Later that day I saw Radiohead
