I'm working out some ideas for constructing a new setlist of funk/soul/r&b material, so I thought I would ask if anyone wants to post songs that they have performed that wowed the crowd more consistantly than others.

There's kind of a fine line between playing those covers that get overplayed and kind of stale, verses those that people love....if you know what I mean.

These generally work (simple arrangements, riffs, vocals etc) - people have generally never heard of them, so you can pass them off as originals if anyone asks....

Tighten Up - Bamboos (Originally Archie Bell, this is a newer, simplified arrangement)
Let the Groove Move You - Gus Lewis
Everything's Gonna Be Alright - Robert Moore
Pass the Peas - JBs
Silly Savage - Golden Toadstools
Jan Jan - Fabulous Counts

just a couple of suggestions....everyone else here will disagree no doubt and send you on your way with ToP and AWB covers....

Archie Bell & the Drell's version is awesome.

Booker T. & The M.G.'s "Soul Dressing" is one of those overly fun songs to play live.

haha ...."the chicken" is one of those songs people only seem to bust out at after hours living room jam sessions at like 2AM, after everyone's had a few.....

"let's stay together" is a good reccomendation and already on my list. I've had good results performing that before with bands.
