Somewhat recently I finally gave the new album, The Air Force a chance. It's really wonderful, definitely a step up from the occasionally forgettable La Foret. I don't really want to spout over-the-top praise, but it's probably his best record yet.

I really don't like Xiu Xiu either. I respect what Jamie Stewart does, but to me a lot of what he makes is fairly unlistenable as music. Sure, some of the songs make good conversation pieces or interesting pieces of art to critique. When I listen to challenging music though I expect to be rewarded at some point for my hard work, and with Xiu Xiu, this just never happens.

I would like Xiu Xiu a lot more if exactly half of every one of their albums wasn't so half-assed. I haven't heard the new one yet, though. I'm sure I'll love 5 of the songs with all of my heart and hate the rest, though.

Fabulous Muscles is one of my favourite albums at the moment. It's definitely bizarre, but the lyrics and vocals are just so heartfelt and genuine and sincere, i find it hard not to feel for Jamie.

I bought it at the Absolutely Kosher merch table at Pitchfork.
Last year I talked to the label owner a lot. He was really cool and answered a few practical questions about running a label for me. You could do things like that last year because there were literally half as many people at the event.

I love these guys, but I can see where some of the haters are coming from. La Foret and Fabulous muscles are incredible, minus a few odd tracks.
