Jazz in the 1950's in New York

My grandfather was a jazz player, and he played the coronet. He was also in the United States army in World War 2. I am trying to find relatives of people that were in a jazz/big band band during the 1950's. He was also in a band. I am trying to find people who lived in long island, NY or New york city during that time or had reletives during that time. This would be very difficult but i know its possible. I don't know. My family didn't play music much till my cousin and I popped out.

I also have really old vintage jazz records also from my grandfathers record collection.
really old records from the 1930's-1960's.
