View Full Version : Live Shows on Sputnik

Would anybody else be up for having an area for reviewing live shows on the Sputnik site? I realize this may sound like everybody else and there wanting to add stupid forums, but I think live show reviews is pretty legitimate, and would get a lot of traffic if everybody knew about it.

It would initially seem like a good idea, but I'd be concerned about the quality of the reviews and how much work it would be for the mods because I'm sure it'd have to be seperated from the CDs and be approved for the first time for everyone.

I brought up in the mods forum recently the idea that staff could authorise things like concert reviews to be posted as featured muses, but I don't know what anyone else's opinion on it is.

i think it could be incorporated into the newsletter, but i think if it was the main site, it would be chaos

Wouldn't interest me at all coming from New Zealand with rather eclectic music tastes.

i suppose not
but nothing would stop you writing about a gig you went to

I don't go to gigs very often because nobody really comes here. Sure there are lots of small local bands, but nobody on sputnik would give a stuff if I wrote about them.
I'm not saying it is a bad idea, just that it'd have no benefit to me and others like me.
Hmm, I really don't think it would work as an individual section of the site. My concern is that after going to shows of bands you love, you often feel like you would rate it 5/5 because you are obviously biased for that band. So basically I think there would be lots of extreme ratings of 1 or a 5, from less experienced members of the site.
But then again, if this problem didn't occur, it's a great idea. Maybe SOP's suggestion would be the easist to work successfully.

I say no to the idea in general.

I still don't see what the problem is. I go to concerts all the time that I don't really like. For example, I go to see Sonic Youth, and immediately after they left the stage, I felt it was awful. Still, it doesn't even have to have a rating system. It could just be a place to talk about shows you went to. I realize you could do this in any individual music forum, but still, its just an idea.

And then as predicted, sputnik turned into punknews.org

I say no to the idea in general.
Why?
I dont see anything wrong with it. I mean, it wouldnt be the end of the world for the users who dont see shows; to see concert reviews around the site. Having a place to talk about the shows and inform people of what the bands were/what they were like I think would be fun.
There could always be a trial period to see if it would be successful or not. I just dont see the harm for anyone if it did happen.

God would be omnijealous if we had concert reviews and he'd send Jesus down pronto so uh no.
And yeah this:

I don't even know what this journal feature is that you speak of, and i'm all over the site. Whats the point of writing something if nobody is gonna take the time to look at it?

Go to "My Profile" and look at the tabs at the top.

They appear at the bottom right of the home page, moving out of the bottom center area after quite some time there. It's a really popular feature, and though I'm not a huge fan of it, it can be pretty entertaining.

It is great idea, it has faults, as many of you have said, but I don't see why not, a newsletter would work real well, but it would have be very structured to ensure there wouldnt be any mistakes and people would have to be aware of what they are watching. Personally I dont want to find out I watching some amateur death metal.

This happens anyway with fanboy reviews of album tho' doesn't it ?
I don't see why this couldn't be incorporated into the newsletter

Why don't you post the review as a thread in the forum section for that band, like for example if it was AC/DC or Dragonforce it'd be in Rock and Metal, but if it was like Underoath it'd be in Hardcore/Emo section. I know back a while ago people were posting their reviews of concerts in R&M all the time.

I have posted reviews in certain sections before. But I just think that, as with albums, if somebody is looking for information on a show, it would be better to have set place where it can be found.
