So I went to go see the Kuyahoga festival yesterday. For those of you who don't know, Kuyahoga is a one day festival, brand new this year, and was essentially a warmup for Lollapalooza at 1/5 the price. The event featured the Flaming Lips as the headliners, who put on the most amazing show on this earth, Death Cab, Sonic Youth, The Hold Steady, Wolfmother, She Wants Revenge, The Secret Machines, Murder by Death, and a few other bands.
All of these bands were excellent, with the exception of Sonic Youth, who could not have been more boring. The act just dragged on and on. It was so bad that I went to the bathroom, smoked a bowl, and didn't come back until it was over. Death Cab was solid. Nothing spectacular, but they sounded good, which is really all I expected. Wolfmother only played for a half hour, but they made the most of it. Although not as talented, you feel like you are watching a Hendrix show. They go pretty crazy on stage.
But the Flaming Lips, let me tell you. Anybody going to see them at Lollapalooza or anywhere else is in for a treat.
I'm going back next year for sure, so this is just to let everybody know that this event does exist and is a great time. Hopefully it will be bigger next year, but not to big. I think shows like Bonaroo and Lollapalooza, although fun, are a bit overwhelming. I got to see at every band I wanted to and they all played long sets besides Wolfmother.
So come to Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio next year and we can hang out.
