wow, i've never seen an avatar like that. avatar is great stuff when considering the price tag. you really can't go wrong with their stuff if you're on a budget.

Avatars are great for the price, from what I've heard. I'm yet to play one but I've heard nothing but praise and good reviews, so all that positive feedback must mean something.

As for the bass, I've never heard about it or played it, but I hear Rondo stuff is fairly decent for the moeny.

It looks like a pretty good set up to me.

haha thanks jono.

think that would be a better first bass?

im going to be recording with it also, so its not something that i want to have bad tone or a bad feel. if a 6 string is too much for a beginner, then should i just look into getting a fender jazz bass? i've played one a couple times and i loved it. felt great.

mikee, i think the first bass is 234587 times more sexier than the other one thoughh :/

thanks man. i'm hoping it will be good, i dont wanna buy something cheap, and waste money, and hten buy something better, when i could of just saved up more and got the something better in the first place.

right now i'm recording with the bender model at one octave lower, so i can sound like a bass. its doing fine, but im sure a real bass would be better haha.

anyone try the pods bass model pack?

or anyone have recordings? there are recordings on the site. but im sure they are like the highest quality stuff.

That's a good mentality to have; get a bass that's good from the getgo and be happy. :D

The SX will be good for you, I think. I've heard good things and bad things about the SX Jazz copy (I played a fretless once and it was alright...nothing special) but I've never heard anything bad about the 6 string basses. Give it a try.

Also, stay away from Carvin heads. I've played one and didn't like it. I found it to have a lot of white noise and the EQ was very stale. The tone barely changed and I tried a few different basses through it. I was running it through an Ampeg cab, though, so maybe the cab was bad.

i've played two SX's. i think those basses are pretty over-hyped. sure, they have a nice price tag, but i really didn't anything memorable about either of them.

ah, im only using it for a power amp, the podxtlives going to be the preamp of the combo.

i'll also probably be getting a sonic max to help smooth out the tone.

and i0play0bass. yer, i like tothink that way, because if its something i know im going to buy down the road, then why not just save up and get it now.

i love the color of the sx bass, sorry to say a n00b question haha, but what are the covers for? im pretty sure the one near the pickups is like a handrest aint it? im not sure, not too familiar with a basses layout.

another thing.

http://www.carvin.com/products/single.php?ItemNumber=BK4&CID=BKBN

would that be better?

i like being like, handy haha.

i would probably go for the active option.

i dunno, i just dont wanna make a bad decision, when i was going to buy a bass before i heard great things about brice basses.

That color is called "sunburst."

I've heard Cavin basses are supposed to be really good, by the way, so give that a try, I guess, if you want to do it.

nah i know the color haha.

i love the combination of the tortoise shell and sunburst.

i have a sunburst guitar. sorta. i call it piss burst cause its like orange and yellow.

but yer. the covers, the chrome covers. you know what im talkin bout?

Mr. Pickle

this day and age, those covers are just cosmetic 95% of the time.

bottlerocket
08-03-2006, 11:31 PM
The one closer to the neck is called a "pickup cover" and the one over the bridge and bridge pickup is commonly called an ashtray. As Pickle said, they're cosmetic and don't effect the bass' tone.

ah alright.

yer i wasnt sure what it did.

i know ive seen the cover over the bridge before on a guitar, but never really knew what the one over the pickup was for, if anything.

i've heard of bass humbuckers and single coils, could someone recommend me some bands that would use each?

i really like the tone of NOFX's bass, and pearl jams.
