View Full Version : Listening Parties
I've added a new feature to the site.
The basic premise is that each genre has a weekly listening party featuring one band. People can listen to free streams of 1 or 2 tracks from the band, and then can comment on what they think. You may like it, you may not - the idea is to be exposed to a lot of new music. For this reason, we will be selecting bands that are not overly popular on sputnik.
Right now mods choose the weekly parties, but I'm eventually going to implement a system where the users get to pick it based on participation (how many weeks you have participated in the discussion/your main genre/reviews/other factors). Should be a lot of fun for everyone, and help people learn.
Legality: Like the mp3 section of the site, all mp3s and streams were released as public domain by the artists/labels for promo purposes.
Please keep the same code of conduct in the comments, none of "this suckssssas!". You don't have to like it, just give it a whirl =)
Note: Right now only Punk, Rock and Alt have parties running. More will come once mods make selections.

I love this. We just need to metal up these listening parties. :)
Yeah, still waiting for a mod to choose a metal band. Users will get to do it soon, don't worry =)

To which ever mod chose Silversun Pickups, good call. I do believe I shall purchase that album.

It would help if we had a mod whose specialty was metal. :(
That's very true, and it's something I'll consider.
Bron-Yr-Aur, thanks =)

Sweet, we could use some metal in our mod staff. Some of the more popular metal reviews have become severely overrun with spam and needless insults.

Yes, now we won't have to deal with bi-polar metalheads rating everything either a one or a five!

This is my favorite of all the new features, I can see myself being introduced to a lot of new music through this. I've already found one band through it.

Hahahaha. This is kind of why I figured there are no "metal" mods.
Also: very cool feature, although I've yet to use it. I'll probably take advantage of it when I get back to university, because my home connection kinda sucks.
Wow, this is a great idea to get into some new music. Great idea, thanks a lot man!

ouch :( Come on now, not all of us are bad.
Can any of the mods choose the featured artists? Into Eternity and Wormed would be some sweet metal LP's. ;)

Actually, they were pretty much the only band I could pick. Pop artists don't seem to like sharing their music, and we're supposed to pick bands with 2 or more songs on the site, and those songs are only available because the album is out of print.

This one's a wicked feature, keep it up man!
BTW, mabye it'd be a good idea to have the different listening parties rotating like they do with the featured music?

Well right now they change whenever you refresh the page, that seems good enough.
This feature is excellent, by the way. It looks good and should get many people into new bands.
