View Full Version : Why JP shouldn't leave.

I can do this much off the top of my head.

- He knows more about basses, lutherie, and electronics than pretty much ANYONE.
- He always helps anyone out, n00b or 4+ year vet like myself.
- He treats everyone the same, and treats everyone with respect
- We need more knowledgeable guys around, not less
- He keeps us from having to deal with the assholes at Talkbass
- If I defret my bass, I'm going to need his help
- The lutherie forum in general needs his help
- He points out the gear flaws that no one else but edge and SoM would, and they're not around all the time
- He always has interesting finds and new basses to share with us
- He has owned a million basses and can give us his opinion before we buy them
- SoM would be lonely being the only 40+ guy here
- SoM and Edge would have no one to argue with
- Let's face it... the place just wouldn't be the same.

But I can't do it myself, so let's hear yours.

Dot.

I love his lutherie work.

He is always willing to offer advice and share his knowledge with others.

I enjoy his posts and always find them informative when centred around a specific topic.

EDIT: He certainly keeps me entertained with the variety of basses he goes through. Come to think of it I have not seen one of those threads in a while.

JP, post a updated family pic if you can, please.

But...but...we love JP! Hes a great part of the forum (and we are entertained by the huge number of basses he goes through!).

And regarding his lutherie work - the people that bash it have nothing to base it on. The only person who can really base their judgements on his work is AP, and we've only heard nothing but good things.

Also, his Jazz that he made looks awesome :thumb:

What the hell? JP of course you are wanted here, the vast majority of us really like you and you are such a great help to this forum. If a few people are saying otherwise just ignore them, you get arseholes everywhere.

Never heard about this. The only thing I'd say to JP is jsut ignore the group of arseholes that don't want you around, the majority of people here actually do want you to stick around, you are helpfull, give us all a laugh by joining in on the coversations about how you can't keep a bass for more than about 4 monts without buying a new one.

You know you'll stay JP, look at the number of people that have said they're leaving and ended up coming back. The forums is just too cool for you to resist :P

RE: this.

No poster save myself and Joz have ever played the Scarab. I took some quality photos of it that showed off its real looks, and people loved it. Many people love the sound. People who see me/hear me use it live end up talking with me about it after gigs---I can't get away from the bastards.

Bottom line is, no one save myself, and soon, Tryxx, is capable of commenting on the work of JP Winters. I use the scarab for band work and receive nothing but compliments from fellow musicians and, more importantly, sound guys. Clips I record with it passive into a hundred dollar USB recording unit with a low-level program aren't accurate representations.

It's as bad as the bloody rondo fads. People scream they're great for months, then that they're lousy for months, then that they're alright for the price, and rinse and repeat. Doesn't matter that many people haven't played rondo basses. I have. Solid basses for the price. They'll last, but they're not quality. For a while, everyone wanted a Winters. Now, people criticize his work. He built a beautiful black Jazz, and people said it was rubbish because of a headstock inlay. Guess who's actually played JP's Wife, or the guitars he's built?

If anyone ever wants to try out the Scarab, and has the means to visit or meet me somewhere close-ish to me, I've already said I'm willing to do it. Until then, don't pass judgement on his work.

Love,

Thats why I said "think"

I don't find his work to be the most attractive thing, but yes, I will concede that the scarab is on of the best sounding basses I've heard. This is another reason I want to see Tryxx's bass, I want, whole-heartedly, for JP to have success, and I have considered having him do work for me. JP also has had great ideas as far as his EQ goes, I think it sounds wonderful.

I think the most important thing about the entire *bashing* thing is the quality of photographs. As I've said time and time again, visuals are the first thing that will sell something, be it an instrument, food, or a car. That is my opinion.

It's not so much that JP's feelings are hurt by kids, it's just that there's no point in him hanging around a forum if it's not much fun. This is a fun internet place thing where people go, and when it turns into kids bickering over silly things, then not much point in staying. I've had times where I've gone a few months without MX simply because it wasn't that much fun.

Anyway, if JP wants to leave, let him, it's his choice, let him do what he wants. I wouldn't want him to leave since he does have more knowledge of things, but then why should he stay if he doesn't want to.

As for buying one of his basses, I would assume that more people don't show interest in them because there aren't many pictures of real basses. If you just so happen to surf the web and stumble across JP's page and you didn't know him, would you buy a bass from a guy that didn't even have pictures of actual basses? I wouldn't, but thats my opinion.

I also don't really like the cosmetics of his basses, again, just my opinion.

I really wouldn't want JP to leave, but if I were him, I probably would have left a long time ago. But then again, if I wanted to leave, I would have just left and not made a big deal about it. It seems like this is all just to get attention since if someone really just wanted to leave, they would.

Supernaut, how was Sade's bashing of me justified?

On to the thread's main topic. When I said that I'd leave in the Fad's thread, it was meant more as a joke.

Don't worry all, I'm not going to try and sell any more of my customs here. I may just post pics of the ones in progress just to show them, but I won't try to sell them here.

The only reason I put the Jazz up for sale was to try to get something out there. I also put it up at a greatly reduced price, just to get it out there. Don't let the price dictate the quality. Some of you did that in other threads. Some called it a $450 bass because that's what I priced it at. Truth is, that was what it cost me just for materials to make that bass. I didn't add in labor costs.

I actually did sell that bass for $1050.00 and he's in the process of writing me a review of the bass. I'm getting pics of him with the bass, and will post them here if you like.:)

But, I digress, I'm writing this to say that I wouldn't leave. I wasn't expecting this type of reaction from my original comment. Thank you all though.:thumb:

Some of you did that in other threads. Some called it a $450 bass because that's what I priced it at. Truth is, that was what it cost me just for materials to make that bass. I didn't add in labor costs.

I actually did sell that bass for $1050.00 and he's in the process of writing me a review of the bass. I'm getting pics of him with the bass, and will post them here if you like.:)

But, I digress, I'm writing this to say that I wouldn't leave. I wasn't expecting this type of reaction from my original comment. Thank you all though.:thumb:
I wanna see pics+review.

Just goes to show you... how slow people here are.

450 for a custom bass... pretty much a 1 off... that could very well one day be worth something.

Spec wise it looks better thena Fender... and is LESS then An American Made Fender USED...

Seriously if i didnt hate 4 strings id have been all over it. If i could be postive i could buy it for 450 and sell it for that price or more id have bought it to test it out and then resold it.

worth something eh? for only 450 its worth keeping and playing :D unfortunately for me jp's ad for only $450 occurred when i had meningitus and was unable to sit or stand up for 2 weeks and missed it :(

oh and whoever said that people on this forum don't have money to purchase custom basses thats generally true of the internet period not just these forums

that and although i dont post much i read a lot on this forum and jp seems to be one of the nicest (and most knowledgable) people on here and having him leave would be a loss

Supernaut, how was Sade's bashing of me justified?

how was it not? "bashing" can be boiled down to the simple act of stating one's opinion in reference to a person or thing in an abrasive, aggressive manner. regardless, there is no "justification" required to do that.

As much of an *** that Sade was at times, he did have good input on certain issues.

Without sounding like a fan boy, Dylan is right. Sade's "bashing" was just him disagreeing with alot of what JP said. It all depends whos point of view you look at, but for the most part, Sade was right.

Just my opinon, though.

I disagree. Not liking JP's work is fine, but JP has never done anything on here to warrant anyone being unneccesarily rude.

That was just Sade's attitude. He didn't act that way soley towards JP. If he dissagreed with you, he would let you know.

Ok, complete re-write...

So this kind of leads back to why this thread is here in the first place. JP made a sarcastic comment about not liking be dissed for no reason, and some people jumped in to support him.

So I'll just lay it out, and super and the other haters can listen or not, I can't control that.

I think the best way we can deal with other people is to try to help, encourage, use positive feedback, etc. That way everyone learns, grows, and finds their way in life.

Nothing is gained by doing the opposite except bad feelings, bad carma, negative thoughts, disease, and death.

That's my theory, and I'm sticking to it...

I know that. Honestly, I didn't have that big of a problem with Sade most of the time. Sometimes he was out of line, but usually he was just himself. Users tended to take everything he said way too seriously, and they would then just fight back, giving him more ammo. If you didn't piss him off, he was one of the most interesting, intelligent users on here.

Constructive critisizm is fine.

Quite frequently, people will just say "It Sucks" or other one liners, without giving reasons. That's not being constructive.

Some of you may say that I got Sade banned and be mad at me for that. The actual truth of the matter is that he got himself banned. I had nothing to do with that.

The one thing I did learn from him is that if you want to be popular, just be a super a$$hole.

There are ways to make points, and he went about it the wrong way.

This forum is supposed to be about helping other people. Sharing knowledge and learning new things. It's not supposed to be about someone showing how much of a jerk they can be.

thats the kind of mentality that caused the sade fanboy club.

Personally, i think JP's work is brilliant, i love seeing new twists on a jazz bass, and i love seeing what a small lutheir has in store for his small group of followers. that being said, this is just an internet forum, its not like JP is going to kill himself, if he wants to leave, best of luck to you JP, and if he wants to stay, then awesome, thats great. but let him make his own desicion.

how often do you talk to your grand mother? how often do you talk to people on the internet?
seven thousand posts is sorta telling me you talk to internet people more. just trying to point out that even though its "just the internet" that doesn;t mean you wont miss someone or miss their advice.
