Music as a Weapon

I have a serious problem as of late.

I have drifted away from poetry and lyricizing lately. Now whenever I try to write lyrics, all that can come to mind is music.

And don't get me wrong, music is a beautiful thing. But being the lead singer/main songwriter of my band you can see the problems this is causing.

My question, is what do I do to get back in to the poetic feel? It's as if the only senses my brain can satisfy are the visual and audible, (usually I see music in my head). How can I get back into it???? Help????

Inspiration, dedication, and recognizing your role.

Sounds like you have the last bit down, and looks like you have the dedication to keep your work top notch.

Poetics, like music, is a form of art. Art needs inspiration.

Either way...that's not at all necessarily a bad thing that you're thinking musically with your lyrics.

In music, the emotional appeal can only be expressed by as much as the music itself will allow it.

You could have the most dreary, raw lyrics ever. However, take those lyrics and write the music itself in a standard C major key.

You ain't going to be invoking much.

There's a tips and questions thread for a reason.
