I have an Stilletto Elite 4 and I love it. Great feel, great sound, love the through neck, even though some people complain about how its slightly heavier but then again most of them are pussies lol can't go wrong

i have a studio 4 and i love it, best bass ive ever played in my opinion, the customs were nice but i much preferred studio over elite or custom. . . i could get sound clips but the quality wont be any good because of my mic

No I don't! I just don't have recording equipment and I suck. :p

I have the Stiletto Elite 5. I love the looks, feel, and tone. It's very easy to move about on the neck but it's big enough to dig in and really go at it. The string spacing is great; not too wide, not too cramped.

The tone's not for everyone, but it grew on me and I love it. It's really trebly and punchy thanks to the EMGz. It lacks low end definition and sounds a bit muddy, but if you dial in the right settings on your amp, you get some crazy low end. My tone is really growly and punchy but still has lots of low end balls and crunch.

It's got AWESOME slap tone, too. It sounds great. :D

It's a great bass. I love it.

I play my Schecter C5 on my band's recordings. Two of them are up at http://www.myspace.com/thecouncilrocks

It's myspace-quality bitrate, but at least it's something.

that's mostly due to the elixers that they all come with. a set of different strings will fix most of that problem.

I have a studio 6, but I don't remember if any of the recordings on my soundclick used it or not.

Either way, it's a chance for me to whore it out:

I know I have a recording of me playing Bryan Adams' "Right Here Waiting" as transcribed for solo bass, using my Schecter. I'll try to dig that up for you. I got quite a few compliments on my tone.

What gauge comes on them, usually?

and they are Nanowebs, right? cuz i just bought a pair of 45-105 nanowebs, and they sound NOTHING like the strings that came stock.

It's a subway system in Boston. It's called the train or the T for short. Around here in Boston, we call it the T, not the subway. It's a habit to call it the T or the train.

And yeah, there are still trains in the US, you n00b. :p

See, I listen to your stuff, and all I can think, is "Why are you doing the diploma course, and not the degree?" - I really want to go have a look at that institute you go to, and see how hard this diploma must be! (considering the people they accept for the ACM diploma, its gotta be allot harder!)

Im pretty positive im buying a schecter now.

and since i dont want to make a whole new thread, right now i have an ashdown mag300 powering an avatar neo2x12 and I'm not really fond of the sound, would a GK head give me an edgier tone? and if not what will? I play punk-jazz. I hope I'm making sense.

help?

Though i can't be of help with your amp, i just bought that exact bass about 2 months ago, and it's been great bassin' ever since. The only negative thing i can say about it is the neck balance, but honestly it's nothing to worry about.
However, make sure you try it out, i've heard a million and one people tell me how great my bass is, yet my school bass teacher, a session bassist i should add, personally hates schecters. So i'm sure you already know this, but as good as testimonies are, it's all about your personal feel for it.
Good luck and...buy the schecter. haha.

My Stiletto Exotic with zebrawood top arrived a couple of days ago.

As far as looks and craftmanship are concerned, i have no reason to complain. The hardware is all good quality. Action and intonation are to my satisfaction, requiring only the slightest bit of tweaking.
I'm not that impressed with the duncan designed pickups that came with it though, but i'll soon remedy that. And the volume pot crackled a little, but that was because of the accumulation of dust rather than an actual problem with it. Apparently it stood in the store for a long time.

Overall, i'm very happy with it. I'll be sure to post some pictures of it once i put in the Bartolini's.

i'm not sure about the gauge numbers, but they were either lights or extra lights. very little tension.

Buy Schecter. They're awesome :D

I've played an 8 string Studio and it was a fantastic bass. First ever 8 string I'd played and it sounded fantastic, neck felt great and the construction just had a quality feel :thumb:

I'd give you some sound clips but I'll wait until I get my quality sound card for some stuff that'll do it justice :)

I have a Studio 5, and agree with most of what Gav had to say. It has a tone that is quite it's own. The low end is rather non defined, but on the other hand it can do well when scopped for a punchy slap/pop routine. While changing the strings does help tighten the low end it's still kinda whishy washy.

Photos are a bit crap, and I'll admit now it looks WAY better with normal colour strings on! (they were too distracting from the beauty of the instrument I reckon. And the strings sucked!)

... The strings were bad?

What was it you didn't like?

Jamie
08-05-2006, 09:43 PM
They died preeeetty d*mn quickly. Within a month or so and that's with playing them roughly.. 2 hours a day I'd say. And being cleaned and looked after fine (and my hands are always clean before playing!) the coating they went on about was.. crap, basically. Nothing like Elixirs. I didn't really like their sound either.. they just sounded dull and lacked something. They haven't broken or anything yet but I've never broken any strings!

Also, my friend bought 2 packs of the black DRs and had the same problems as me.. We've both gone back to EB Slinkies..

Don't know if that makes much sense!

the b is definitely good, but whenever i go to play 5 strings, i play real expensive ones that are set up perfectly, so in comparison the schecter isn't the greatest.

also, that is quite the comparison, i enjoyed reading it.

These recordings were done in the middle of my diploma though. :p

My technique was fine for the degree but my theory and sight reading skills were way below par and attempting the degree would have probably exploded my head.

You have to be a well rounded musician to do a degree not just a person with technique.

The course itself starts you from the basics and then takes you to just about past grade eight level if you keep up with what is happening. We had some guys who were not very advanced at all but if you are willing to put in the hours you can come out on top. There was a guy who went on the course in the early nineties who could barely play but begged to be taken on as he'd said he would work very hard. He ended up being the top student at the end of the year.

Your course will start easy and get progressively harder, I doubt there is a huge difference between the ACM and Institute course, all I know is the Institute's diploma was the first of its kind and has constantly been improved through the years.
