I can highly recommend the following little mixer.

It is anologue and as such wil not have any latency issues, plus you can link a variety of devices to it. It is specialy designed for computer recording. Plus the price is also a great drawcard.

I love my little one. First rate recording quality and very versitile. All I would suggest you get along with it is maybe a pre-amp of sorts with a DI out and then you are set.

You can do what i do.

I downloaded FL Studio 6 (Fruity Loops) Demo Edition.

It does not allow you to save the project you are working on but you can export it as a wave or mp3 file. All you need to do then is open it in Audacity (another free program) and then record while the track is playing.

Simple and very effective and the best part.........FREE!

Cubase LE comes with the PreSonus. by the way, i'm not sure what your OS needs to be, but i'm using 10.4.4 and it works fine.

If we have a Mac, how about Garageband? Seems like a pretty versatile program.

Yea, you could just use Garageband. It's pretty simple from what I've seen, but it'd work. Probably be a little better than audacity or whatever. Give it a shot at least.

While we're on the subject of recording, I used to be able to plug in a standard vocal mic into my computer and record with that, however, now I get virtually no volume out of it when I record. However, when I plug my headset into the computer (which I use while on Skype) I get good volume recording when talking with my voice.

I switched my soundcard because the old line in had stopped working, and I couldn't get to the mic panel...and now it's been thrown around, so I don't know if I can go back to it.

Can someone help me figure out how to get more volume out of the mic?

A preamp would boost the signal for you, I think that's what you're asking...
