Back in the day (when I was active and posting and stuff), we used to have Composition Competitions in The Pit. It was run by Zerokewl, and for a while there, it was pretty damn fun. In fact, some of my best inspiration had come from those competitions, and I really miss doing it. Myself, Havic, and on a few, Lightraven, participated, but I don't recall many, if any, other bass forumers who were active or quite active in these.

The premise of the comps was not unlike the bass comps we currently have, however, the object was to simply write a song, and submit it to be listened to, as opposed to actually performing it. Songs were written on any number of programs (Guitar Pro, Sibileus, etc) and submitted as MIDI files to a Yahoo! group that Zero had set up. Themes were had, etc etc.

I've been wondering for a while now if anyone would be interested in starting these back up, only in this here bass forum. When it comes to writing, the door is definetly opened because you could easily write songs that you yourself could not play (I know I sure did!) and stuff...

Yeah.

I don't know if anyone would truly be interested in this, but with the demise of the Pit, and my relative distrust for anyone outside of this forum (that, and, this is the only one I visit anymore) makes me want to do it here.

Thoughts and stuff, please.

Yeah, you can definitely count me in. Ive been recently composing some stuff for cello and bass on power tabs. I think its a really good idea, I hope this takes off because at least it doesn't discriminate against less experienced bass players who would be otherwise put off from entering any of the comps on the forum., meaning more people can participate.
Good idea :thumb:

Sounds interesting. In fact, I remember these Composition Comps, though I didn't compete in them.

I think I shall write a song entitled, "JoZ, Where in the Hell are my Warped Tour Backstage Passes?" :p

1) Good response so far, that's cool

2) You'll get them when we play the Warped Tour, if we ever do :p

3) Send me your address again Joe, I need it for...reasons. Yeah.

1) Doesn't apply.

2) Okay, but it's either that, or you owe me $20 (with 15.7% interest, compounded daily).

3) Okay, but I'm tired of the plethora of envelopes filled with white powder that have arrived at my house over the course of the last week.

I promise I'm not sending you white powder.

That's so 2001.

I would love that. I like composing music, but I suck at playing to have felt comfortable in the comps. I would totally be into it if we made the music digitally.
