You know, I think it would be a really good idea to have a classified section on MX.

Oh, wait...

What ever happened to finding band members with a flyer?
You know...you type your phone number a few times and cut it into tabs that you can rip off the bottom so you don't forget to call. Those work pretty well, 'cause people like to read flyers and stuff a lot.

This site has always produced results. Pick your city then area code. I generally once I'm in my city I select all area codes for it to view. Found all our members here and at different times.
Good to sell stuff too!

www.musiciansonly.net or check the myspace classifieds, you can usually find someone there.

I did that... and at one of the stores I put one up at, I went back probably a month or more later, and nobody had taken one of the little tab things...

So it doesn't seem to work here.

So far the only thing that has worked for me is actually just meeting people.... In my first band, I went to school with the bassist, and the drummer was a friend of a friend (I played guitar and sang). The second band I had was a group that I had played a show with with that first band. Their singer and bassist had more or less left, and so I took over for both of them. And then eventually it evolved into me playing guitar and singing, having another guitarist, a drummer and no bass... and then that fell apart...

yay.

Try the classifieds here, although that didn't really work for me before when I was searching for a bassist. Got one serious reply, but nothing really came of it.

Try the flyers too, they didn't work for me, but they might work for you.

And get out and meet musicians, that's always a good way to do it. Just ask people to jam sometime, and if it works, then who knows? You might be able to get something going on.

your local store probably has a bulletin board that have flyers of people who wants to start a band. Check and see if they have one

There was a musician's myspace that i was on, but it just opened so it sucked. I'll try to find it.

It was something like musicianfinder.com, but i can't find it. I made a thread about it here. Oh, and on another site.
