What do you think about matt leaving the band? I think it's great. Long live CKY!

They're decent. I've got This Darkened Heart and Behind Silence And Solitude. I haven't heard their new album though. They're touring with Dragonforce this fall. I'd like to go see that but, as usual, the closest it'll be coming to me is still a 3 hour drive away.

Talented, no question...I like them....
Good live also, but would seem really generic if you hadn't heard the CD's before, which would be a shame

They are one of my favorite bands ever. I have The last two and Behind Silence and Solitude just came in the other day and I am going to pick it up soon. Phil is brilliant. Oli is one of the greatest guitarists ever.

Excellent band. I own the first two albums.
I will say though that Shadows Fall would be much better had Phil stayed with them. Great singer.

The new album is much better than either of the other two... the new drummer is just insane, and Phil does so many different vocal styles, like in the song Six, he changes the type of scream he does 8 times in one verse.

Yeah, that's pretty low, for some reminds me of a lower Tommy Rogers (BTBaM).
I just got the latest album. It's pretty wicked-cool. It's the first I've heard from these guys.

That'll make everything they've released previously greivously dissappointing... going back to each older album they seem to get worse, but they were still good, it's just they get so much better each time.

Most of the time, no, and it's very sad.
However, I do hate it when a band matures emotionally as well, and they quit writing "**** the World" songs and starts actually writing about things they care about or whatever, and the music happens to be softer or whatever, and people act like they got worse at writing or playing. Pisses me off when a band changes because thier lives or the way they look at things change and people act like they don't make good music anymore.
However, some bands actually do "sell out" or get lazy and write dumb ****. That isn't maturing.
I am however, glad that ATR isn't doing either, getting softer or getting lazy.

I think in some cases, like this one, the band hasn't changed styles, there is just a higher quality of music being presented. It's hard to pinpoint what that is, but the word quality has always worked for me.

All I have heard is the latest album but I must say it isnt too bad. I am definately not a metalcore fan because I find the vocal style too abrasive but the vocals here dont seem as grating to the ears for some reason.
The guitar work is rather good but I have to say the rhythm tone is pretty awful, its almost like sludge rock. The leads sound alright though, makes me wonder what equipment they are using.

If they don't come near Texas on their AtR/DRAGONFORCE/HORSEtheBand tour, I will literally fly to see them. I missed DragonForce and AtR once already in just one month's time, and it won't happen again.

I think All That Remains embodies many different styles of heavy music. Metalcore being one of them, but there's more to it then that.

He's wrong though.
Not entirely.
But anyway, all this ridiculous arguing that takes place around here about the specific definition of genres and which bands fit them to a T makes me sick. If a band (like ATR) is generally referred to as a genre (like metalcore) by critics, labels, and even the f*cking band themselves, I think it should just be left at that. It's not up to a bunch of internet know-it-alls on forums to decide what a band specifically is and isn't. I include myself in that statement, so please don't get offended.
On a personal opinion note, I think ATR is generally in that whole group of post-thrash/modern heavy metal group of bands that isn't technically metalcore in the strictest definition, but it has come to be accepted as that. So I leave it at that just because in general people know what I'm referring to a little bit better if I use the "accepted" or broader term.
Definitions of genres quickly change. Notice the evolution of the term "heavy metal", which used to be used to describe what we today call 80's hair metal or glam rock. It has a completely different definition these days, as bands and music evolve and change.
Trivium, Lamb of God, All That Remains, Mastodon, Chimaira, etc. are all not technically metalcore, but are generally referred to as that more and more as time goes on. I prefer to roll with it rather than argue with people more and more as time goes on, until in 15 years I'm arguing with every last person on the planet that these bands are "insert genre here" instead of "insert future genre description here".
Am I making any sense?

All That Remains hardcore influences are so minor it's a joke to call them metalcore, they're mostly post-thrash and melodic death metal, they've got tinges of other metal subgenres as well, but that's the main point.

The new album is pretty nice. I have to agree that it is a step up from their last. Vocals are way better on this album as are the guitar solos...some of the best solos ive heard in a while by a newer metal band. However it got old with me pretty fast as all their stuff does. I enjoy listening to them every once in a while, but i find it hard to listen to one of their albums from start to finish.

All That Remains are one of my favorites in that genre, brilliant songwriting by teh Oli Hebert.

I have The Fall Of Ideals and it is INSANE!! i love how they bridge the gap between brutal and beatiful so well, only KSE does it better. Like the singing on "this calling" over the slamming double bass attack, amazing. Also they have the guts to put and acoustic/electric guitar almost single worthy song next to a black metal sounding blast fest......
