The Sputnik Community thread, part III: Revenge of the Community
Welcome to the casual thread of the Sputnik Community. Some general outlines/rules to make life for all easier:
1. Please keep it to normal civilised discussion. A lot of users are not interesting in following an AIM like conversation here. That's what IM services are for.
2. That does not mean we do not like jokes here. Humor allowed ;)
3. Don't boost your postcount with smileys/blanket statements/posts without any substance at all.
4. No e-drama. Nobody wants that
5. Because this is on MX, expect MX rules to be enforced (the anti-Spam rules, no pr0n etc)
6. Try to lure more people here. It's always fun when more people join the party :)
7. Have fun!
We will enforce the rules as much as necessary. If all runs well, moderation will be moderate, if it's running out of dimension and proportion, moderation will be heavier. So much for the official part.
Now get going, and follow rule seven without breaking the other six :thumb:

Well, here's the first post. I'm really getting into hip-hop/trip-hop. Anybody got any suggestions for something to listen to?
Hip hop: Deltron 3030, Del tha Funkee Homosapien, RJD2, De la Soul, Heiruspecs, Jedi Mind Tricks
Trip Hop: DJ Shadow, Portishead, Team Sleep
But, really right now if you're getting into any kind of sampling or electronically generated sounds, you need to listen to Venetian Snares right right right now.

Today I got up and had some cereal. Tonite I'm gonig tho see X. As if everyone doesn't already know that. I'm in the middle of two great books. One by Steven King and one by Willian Kennedy. Anyone else read Kennedy?
I may go to Florida this Christmas. Florida represent . Chilly-Bean-Bop, fellow board member, is from Florida. She says it sucks. Don't go there. I'll make up my own mind.
I have a few reviews coming up this week. Very exciting. New albums and new releases. But I will be doing a few old ones after that.
I'm hungry as hell, people. Mexican or chinese? Gotta eat before I go to the gig. I bet many of you feel the same way. Can I see a show of hands? Gotta keep the energy up.
The Who have a new EP coming this week. I'm very much looking forward to it. I hope I can review it before someone else does. These old guys still got it. Kind of cool that a lot of people my age are into them, too. Or at least respect them
My back tooth hurts on top. I think I need to see a dentist :(. I hate the dentist. But I like the pretty assistants. They should have topless assistant dentists offices, don't you think? I do.
I love Rhapsody music player. Any of you have it? It's a fine service and good software. I recommend it highly. It has helped me expand my musical horizons by leaps and bounds.
I don't have un ultra clever e comic or personable e funny to leave you with, so I'll just say Hep Kat is a girl, lol.

my advice, get itunes :)
Hip hop: Deltron 3030, Del tha Funkee Homosapien, RJD2, De la Soul, Heiruspecs, Jedi Mind Tricks
Trip Hop: DJ Shadow, Portishead, Team Sleep

Bolded stuff I second; the unbolded stuff I haven't heard or I'm not real fond of.
But, to add for the sake of adding:
Atmosphere and Sage Francis (hip-hop), and Massive Attack (trip-hop).
If you want me to send you samplers of stuff I'd be glad to. Just drop an e-mail addy and I can whip one up for you. I have to send cbmartinez Up in the Attic tonight, anyway, so it'd give me something to do.
Tonite I'm gonig tho see X
Haha, excellent!
Florida sucks.
Well, it depends where you go. If you're going towards Miami, be weary for a heavy Hispanic community (duh). If you're towards the panhandle... say, Panama City Beach, it's not so bad, just tourist-y. Same goes for Orlando - very excellent place to go because there's a lot to do there, but conversely, it'll be busy with tourists.
Okay, I keep trying to get a last.fm and whenever I get to the Step 2 login thing, it always says that it can't connect to the internet or something. Help please.
Check your connection/browser - if you got that noScript thing, make sure it allows Last.fm. Alternatively, clear your cookies and try to re-login.
And I don't suggest iTunes, as innerdark did. It's a good program, certainly, and it makes it easy to organize, but I prefer Winamp - only because I've used it for forever and a half.

We had our playoffs for baseball today, and we lost. It was a play-in game, and we sucked a fat one. I had four RBIs, and it still wasn't enough. I didn't really get on with the team I had this year, though, so I'm not terribly disappointed.
I split my lip at the game, too, so I was a bloody mess, which kind of ruled.
Afterwards, I went out to a new upscale Mexican place for dinner with my family, and all the salt and spices absolutely killed me because my lip was still split.

Others I reccomend would be Nas, The Roots, Quasimoto and all the others Dfel reccomended. For Trip-hop stick with Dj Shadow, Portishead, RJD2 and Massive Attack. I've never heard any Team Sleep, but I'm pretty sure they're awesome, so check out that too.

So guys I want to upload a video to YouTube (a Tomahawk interview on Channel V), and the problem is it's 12 minutes long. YouTube doesn't allow videos longer than 10 minutes, or larger than 100 MB (which is weird because the video itself is 44 MB) Anyway, how can I split the file up in two pieces, and still keep the same framerate, dimensions, codec, etc.?
Hip Hop
Haiku D'Etat
Cannibal Ox (Highly recommended)
Danger Doom
Viktor Vaughn
Last two involve MF Doom
Trip Hop
Boards of Canada
The Gathering

Haha, if this place becomes the new L&R, then whatever. I highly doubt that people don't have horror stories about dates and hang-out sessions with the opposite sex. Hep Kat's already been flying high with his bug-squishing story, so there's no worries.
And we have some of those Dunkers in our house, I think. I guess they were on sale? Not really sure. The best Oreos are either the Double-Stuf, or even better, the Double-Stuf + new color... like, the Halloween ones.
I'm not looking forward to going back to uni. My parents were talking to me about it at dinner today when my split lip was screaming at me because of all the salt from that Mexican place, and it's like, 'Man, already?'
But I guess it needs to get done, because with the way my summer's gone with some people, I'm looking forward to putting them behind me for some time and trying to branch out to uni people. My townhouse is going to be nice this year - four-person, four-bedroom. It's the first time in uni housing where I'm going to get my own room, so I'm thrilled about that. But the fact that I have to go back to doing mental work (as opposed to physical) isn't exactly very exciting.

I sense a story. Lay it on us, brotha.
It's not particuarly interesting or anything, but I'll tell it anyway. I'm going down a sad road, and you're all coming with me.
Basically, I was (still am, trying not to be) attracted to this girl, and she was attracted to me. Basically, she's a class below me, but she's only three months younger. So when they gave out yearbooks at school, she kept telling me that I needed to sign it. So basically on AIM I just said "I'll just tell you what I would write in it just in case I don't get the chance to actually write it anytime soon." So I said something along the lines of "You're an amazing person" blah blah blah. I didn't get a yearbook, because they're too frigging expensive, so she said that she would "sign" mine. She told me to save it, so that's why I have it. Here is an excerpt:
"Basically your the coolest person
i've ever met in my whole entire life..and that
isnt even an exaggeration."
The reason I told that part above is to say this: When we got around to discussing our feelings for each other, she basically said that she was still heartbroken over a relationship that she had a FRIGGING YEAR AGO and that she was afraid of any relationship now and she always breaks guy's hearts because she gets scared blah blah blah.
Correct me if I'm wrong here. If the "coolest person you've ever met in your whole entire life" (she's said that on numerous occasions) is basically saying "Here I am, if you want me, you can have me" and you turn that down, does that make any sense? To me it doesn't.
Whatever. Sorry to bitch lol.

Yeah, Gav's story is absolutely killer. And no, there's nothing really complicated about my life back home. It doesn't just scream 'Avril Lavigne' or anything.
In your [chan's] case, though, when I read a certain passage in your post (I can't specify which part) made me go AHH GOD DAMMIT due to something that has happened to me that's driving me up the wall.
Anyways: people can still be affected by stuff that happened awhile ago. Someone who witnessed a car crash, for instance, can probably recollect the entire crash from pre-collision to post-collision without missing a beat. The same thing's with relationships. I'm still affected by one three years ago, and it ended on mutual terms, so it's not like it was traumatizing.
But, with this girl, there could be a multitude of scenarios. One: she's cool with you guys being friends and doesn't want to jeopardize the friendship by getting involved with you. Two: she's afraid of something - be it your reaction to her when she drops the bomb, or she's afraid of not doing something right and letting you down, or something along those lines. Three: she's gauging your reaction.
If she's being chickenshit, obviously don't force anything. But, if you want to pursue it, then call her out on it and just talk to her. Don't stress her out or anything, but just talk as friends. Maybe the only thing she wants right now is a good friend who just happens to be a guy.
And for you, that's probably a good thing until it develops, if it ever does. Maybe she's just scarred, or scared, or both. Or none of the above. You may not know until she talks to you. Just don't try to force her to make a decision on the first talk, because that wouldn't be good press.
EDIT:
Invite a bunch of mutual friends over for board games.
Go putt-putting with her / in a group.
Rent a movie or catch a show.
Basically, if you think it's best, have her be around mutual friends with you, and then start to see her more one-on-one. If you live in a place where it's as nice as it is for me, doing something outdoors (like mini golf) wouldn't hurt.
EDIT to the below:
I'm not really sure. I just know my way around a keyboard, I guess. I've written a lot of essays and papers and things, so when I know what I want to say, it doesn't take me long to write. It's always trying to figure out what I want to write that takes awhile for me.
And I guess I had a good keyboarding teacher in seventh grade or something.
Quick, ask Zoe: what stops x-rays? Even dog's cant! Red fish vanish, then go bigger. Yaks hear noises under Jack's mattress. I keep commas over long periods. Peanuts.

Hmmm...
This is quickly become L&R
Well, I'd say you should go that extra mile to actually be her "coolest person ever." If you can get a title like that by just being yourself, imagine what you can do if you put actual effort into it. Make her feel like she can trust you. Your main objective is to make her forget about whoever hurt her in the past, so she can focus on Chan the Man. Before you know it, you'll be kissing her under the stars with foot long gastropods being crushed underfoot (literally!).
Oh and picsplzkthnx.

Quote of the day - “People who say they don't care what people think are usually desperate to have people think they don't care what people think”http://thinkexist.com/i/sq/ThumbsUp.gif
That's rather Dr. Seuss-like.
Be who you really are and say what you really feel because people who mind don't matter and people who matter won't mind.
Jom: I just checked my CP and lolz
Haha.
Scouts.
I did Cub Scouts where I used to live, but I dropped it after I moved. I remember the Pinewood Derby Race - I still have the trophy for first place downstairs in a box somewhere - and making a birdhouse (which is still up in a tree in my old house, surprisingly). And... not much else. It was SO long ago.
Teachers.
I was popular with teachers but my football coaches didn't really get along with me because I blatantly told them that their philosophies were crap (we were getting mercied every game for three weeks straight and they wouldn't make any changes to their playbook) and it showed on film. But, they couldn't sit me, so they had to ignore me or something. My other coaches (except for my freshmen year baseball coach, who was a complete dink) were pretty awesome, though.
That's why I was a big fan of rec leagues. For example, my friend's dad would say he'd coach a basketball team and sit on our bench, but we (my teammates and I) would dictate everything. It was way more fun because it was exactly that: all for fun. And then maybe some bragging rights here and there. And I play baseball every summer with friends, so that's nice. This year was a weird exception, though, but whatever.
And pick-up games always rule and stuff.

Did your iPod not add them to last.fm at all, or just a portion of the tracks? If just a portion, remember that the old playcounts are overwritten once you listen to the songs again before syncing.
You should also check if your last.fm plug-in supports iPod submissions. The new last.fm software does not yet as far as I know, but my old Mac Plug-in does. Also, if you have an iPod shuffle, there is no submissions, as the Shuffel has no time stamps for plays
