I'm thinking about recording sometime in the near future.Like with a band?
My friend (he graduated college already) has a recording studio in his basement. I was planning on doing some work in there with my band, but it doesn't look like we're gonna be recording any time soon. We'll probably like break up before we even start thinking about laying down any tracks. Me and my brother are the only people who contribute to the writing and the only guys who make it to every practice (we moved it down to once a week, shouldn't be that hard for them). Plus they all like Pop-punk/what they call emo and don't like/don't know about most of the stuff we like.

That's why I make music by myself. That way I have the freedom to do whatever I want and don't have to deal with poopy band members.
Do you have to pay any money to record? If not you should definitely take advantage of it.
The Jungler
08-16-2006, 09:23 PM
I'm not sure, they don't have really high paying jobs (my college friends that is) so I'm sure my parents would force some sum upon them. I really want to get down there though, even if it's to do some solo/duo stuff even though I bought a four track a little while back that I've/We've been recording some solo demos on. As of yet most no one has heard these demos and they aren't the best quality (My College friend has a [pretty much] pro studio) so hopefully I can get down there before the new year.

That's an example of the quality of their production/studio.

So I've been in Maryland for the past weekend (still here) and getting very limited time on here, explaining my lack of reviews. However, I bought 4 albums and plan to review each one.
Bob Dylan- Highway 61
Johnny Cash- At Folsom Prison
Funkadelic- One Nation Under A Groove
Miles Davis- Filles De Kilimanjaro
Desolation Row is flat out incredible.

Here's a review of the concert I went to last night (you will +rep me for this 10 paragraph review by God!). I posted this in pop-punk's concert review thread, but I figure there is at least one person who would read this here.
So I've had my ticket for the Forte, Cellador, and Bullet For My Valentine for a couple weeks and I'm pumped, okay? Well, the venue it's being held at I'd never been to before because most national bands go to a different place. Well, The Hive is known for how rowdy it can get; a man was shot to death there not too long ago. I get there and it's obvious it could be like that night again...I probably stuck out as an untr00 metalhead since I was wearing a beloved Coheed & Cambria shirt, but I put on the skin head routine anyway. :p
I'm inside the venue now after getting patted down. It's unusual that I was though as I figured security wouldn't be that good. Cain's (the main venue in Tulsa) has the worst security there. Sometimes I don't even get patted down. This patting down was nothing short of rape let me tell you. But that was made up for by the fact I didn't get the 'minor' stamp, meaning I could buy beer. So I'm chilling after seeing some fellows I know waiting for the show to start, and finally it does.
The first band, Forte, was alright. Kind of death metal at some points, and prog metal at others. The bassist stole the show however. He's very talented and moved all over the fret board extremely fast. He'd switch his hand from playing under handed to over handed which is always cool, but he did it like it was child's play. In typical bassist fashion he didn't have a shirt on and his hair was all shaved except for a pony tail located on top of his head that was braided in to multiple tails. For the whole concert he'd swing his head while playing and it would be like a helicopter's blades spinning around. That was niftly. He did back up vocals too and sounded like Geddy Lee of Rush. I thought it was cool, but apparently I was the only one because everyone else would laugh at him and the lead singer who's vocals were a mix of death and Geddy Lee style. It kind of pissed me off because even if you don't like a band you shouldn't laugh at them in concert. I don't think they noticed at least. All in all, Forte was good, but not enough to make me want to buy anything from them.
Next up is Cellador. I had no clue who these guys were before they played, but I was blown away. One of the lead guitarists looks like Claudio Sanchez and that is alright by me. :) So they start playing and I'm just stunned. For a minute I thought Cellador had been replaced by Dragonforce, they're basically a carbon-copy of them, but the difference is I like Cellador quite a bit. One of my main thoughts during this set was, "speed metal at its finest". The mosh pit finally started up for the first time that night, it was sad seeing the lead singer of Forte saying, "where's the ****ing pit", three times that night with the crowd having a dazed look of boredom over their faces. I didn't get involved however because I was behind only one person from being right at the front and the person was short so it was a perfect spot. Halfway through someone threw beer at me and this skinhead next to me and he was rarin' to fight whoever it was. He said, "I've got to drive home after this sh*t". I'd have understood him if he hadn't been drinking and would end up being pulled over and have to go through a test, but he was drinking before and smelled of alchohal already....oh well. Before Cellador's final song they said this was the final stop on their two-and-a-half week tour and to help make this last song special. I didn't know it was the last concert for the whole tour and I thought that was cool. Cellador ended their set magnificently and I knew I'd be stopping by their merch booth later on.
After over a half an hour of waiting Bullet For My Valentine finally got on to play. The recorded intro to their debut full-length album played while the members waved to the crowd and through water on us, thank God because it was very, very hot there. The band commented that it was the hottest concert they ever played several times. So after the intro finished the started off with "Her Voice Resides". It was awesome because every single person, including me, started semi-moshing to the music. I was punching and stuff, but managed to stay in the same place for the whole thing, mostly. Then after that they continued to go in order of the record with "4 Words
(To Choke Upon)". Bullet For My Valentine is a lot better live than I thought they would be.
The lead guitarist, Moose, was right in front of me the whole time and it was cool to see him play. He'd stick his tongue out at us from time to time and do various, funny things. The band would pause quite a bit, or Matt would signal us to sing along and that was pretty bad a.ss. After a while it was pretty hot and I, along with a couple other people, yelled at the "security" in front of us for water. Usually the people will pour water from bottles down our mouths at concerts and do it a lot at the main concert venue in Tulsa, but the guy nearest was sitting there drinking from a water bottle and shook his head no. That fu.cker. The Hive has the wost security. When people would crowd surf they wouldn't even catch them and when the fell out of the crowd at the front is the only time security would get off their as.ses. They wouldn't even ask if the people were alright and just throw them back into the top of the crowd, or take them to the side roughly and get them out of their way of sleeping. >:-[
A little more than halfway through frontman Matt said, "This next song is for the beautiful women of Tulsa. Come talk to me after this show if you want to fu.ck me. This is "Tears Don't Fall". Usually it's not surprising for the members of a band to talk to women after the show and that would lead on to whatever, but it was the first time I saw a guy do that. :p
Finally, the band got off the stage and dispensed with the usual thanks for having us and stuff. Everyone was yelling one more song and the tech for the band said they're way in the back watching playboy and we'd have to yell real loud to get them to come back. I'm still at the very front of course and I could see them waiting right behind the makeshift stage (btw, it was just a really large table set up with a short steel fence keeping us from the stage). They came back for two songs. I think both were cover songs though because I didn't recognize the songs from "The Poison". The songs were good and I decided this was the time to truely mosh.
The concert was top notch stuff. I only wish that BFMV had played "Room 409", I think it was their only song they didn't play and that the crowd was polite to Forte. My favorite song for the whole concert was definitely "All These Things I Hate (Revolve Around Me)" from BFMV. It was an epic performance with the crowd singing every lyric from the song. It was awesome and the band made the song heavier than it is on the recorded version.
For the merch booth I only went to Cellador and guess what? I met all five members of the band. I bought a shirt and their CD, which all five signed the cover of the booklet. I thought of telling the lead guitarist I liked his hair and it reminded me of Claudio Sanchez, but I decided not to. Then I went outside and waited for my ride. I actually waited besides the bus BFMV were using and lo and behold, Matt, the frontman is on the bus with, I thought, every member of the band, with a group of women. I got tired of waiting and spying through the window on them and went back inside. There I saw the lead guitarist of BFMV. I was surprised at first because I figured he'd be in the bus, but he was talking to fans instead and signing autographs at the merch booth. I didn't have anything for him to sign though and lost my ticket earlier so I gave him my shoe to sign. haha. Now I know why he wasn't on the bus because I looked at the liner notes and he's married.
All in all...4/5 concert. Forte was a 3/5 Cellador was a 4.5/5 and BFMV were a 4.5/5 as well. Very cool night.

I featured it, but Hip-Hop isn't part of the main page cycle so it doesn't show up at all. Sorry.
Thanks for the nice comment, though. :) I was really proud of that review.

Oh I was just kidding. I just wanted to take a potshot at Chan.
It was a rather good review, although it didn't help me at all, considering I had basically the same general impressions off the tracks I had heard. Not your fault though.

Yeah, I did. My reaction? A useless GD thread that people post in to get their post count up.
The truth? teh piixiesfan taking advantage of that.

Because he doesn't like Lord of the Rings.

Because he has a douche username with "yo" in it?
