I too voted for Roee. Guitar fool, its was actually some pretty cool slapping, but the song itself wasn't that developed, and your tone sounded pretty thin to me.
Roee, excellent composition. How long have you been playing?

GF, listen to roee's again and then listen to yours. you should, at that point, be able to see what was meant by thin tone. also, with your's, i kind of had trouble following what was going on
Roee FTW

Thin meaning it didn't sound like it had much behind it, I think is what they mean.

Yea the deciding factor was definately tone for me, Guitar Fool yours just seems too lacking in low end with way too much treble. Nice effects Roee.

Roees sounded really complete to me and i loved his tone, overall great composition and playing.
Guitar fools just felt a bit lacking to me, good effort though.
I vote Roee.

nice job both you guys
Mr. Segal: I liked the background bass but with the slap bass it seemed to crammed together and it needed more "ummfff" a.k.a. low end :thumb:
roee: loved the riffs and the effects were awesome its like a rubbery water drop:p BTW what kind of effect is that? :thumb:

my vote goes to roee cause its my fav by far out of every entry that has been posted yet. very good arangement, flow, tone, and groove.
GF- not bad, just seemed a bit chaotic at times and didnt grove as well as roee's .

man you guys seem to be judging the recording more the then the song
why? because people commented on your tone? Roee takes both in my mind.

Roee: Dude, you're my hero. Definately the best composer on here by far in my mind. Your tracks always blow my mind. The recording is exellent, the wah is sick, and the playing is groovy as hell. I really don't have anything bad to say about the track. A little too busy at points, but I really loved it.
GF: Tone was too empty. The slapping was really basic sounding, plus it was the same rhythm as Higher Ground. I didn't think the track really showcased much of anything. Just sort of blah. I liked where you were going with the line above the slapping, but it never really got there. I know this is harsh, but it's a pretty rough track.
No contest in my mind, this is to Roee. It really wasn't a fair match though - Roee always produces sick tracks. He should have started against someone more his level. GF, your track wasn't at all bad, but it just wasn't up to Roee's.

ya if you read the first post and the slap comp thread i broke my first bass and then got a replacement one in time to record for contest just in time. really put together and i guess i should have put 3 tracks of bass in there. oh well better luck next time i guess.
ROEE CO wins
close this please :thumb:
Roee Co gets my vote.
To Roee Co:
Great piece all round. Only complaint, and that is entirely a matter of personal taste, is that the effect parts got a little much for me at times.
To Guitar fool 202:
As you said it was a last minute rush job and that obviously affected the overall composition. It felt a little dis-jointed and the slap seemed out of place with the backing track you used. Not bad though for a 10 min job though.

guitarfool: learn to take some critisizm. nuff said
roee: once again, your composition never ceases to amaze me, everything seems so well put together, and awesome tone for a recording.

roee does it for me, i agree with that guitar fool guy about people judging on tone/recording quality though, not everyone can aford a stingray and decent recording geer, its a stupid thing to judge on.

Oh come on. Listen to the track. You cannot say that it would be a good track if the quality was higher. We commented on quality, but the playing and composition in itself was lackluster. It's fine if you can't afford good gear. It is even fine if you aren't that awesome. But don't enter a competition if do not have the capacity to make an entry you feel is at par with the other entries.

We're on the same wave-length here.
Wow!
Roee, that was ace. Love the envelope filter? and the general slapping.
Great structure and quality, and good drum beat behind it.
guitar_fool - tone was too tinny, bad quality, no drums, short and didn't seem to have structure, was overly complicated, not enough slapping - slapping seemed a bit simple and repetetive.
My vote goes to guitar_f....uh I mean Roee!
BTW Roee, do you have a drum beat playing through speakers and then play along with it while recording? Or do you record and then put drums to it? And what do you use to record? Do you D.I. or Mic it?

nah i agree that roees was a much better track, hence why i voted for him. and if you know your not as good as the other participants in a comp then yes it is stupid to enter unless your fine with loosing but if you have the chops but not the geer that shouldnt stop you.

Did anyone else notice that Roee's popped notes almost sound like the bass has a voice and is speaking to you? It's crazy.

Ok so I actually listened to the song today. I can't say I was a fan of Roee's tone, I think it would have better if he had left the Ray's natural fat tone. The harmonies are great though. May I ask how you record and you can get it to sync so well?

Exactly my thoughts minus the bit about his tone, I really liked it!

Guitarfool, like I don't know if that was my speakers, but that sounded like 2 different songs playing together.
sadly i dont know why i did it but it was too rythm tracks and a lead on top of that. i now know that that is too much bass in a song.

I think it's pretty unfair making your vote on their tone.. This is a vote on their bass playing.. not their recording skills/gear.
Guitar Fool: I thought it was pretty repetitive and just sounded like the 2nd quiter track was just you widdling a harmonic minor scale (or what sounded like a harmonic minor). The song lacked structure and didn't seem to go anywhere. Maybe concentrate on playing fewer notes and getting more of a groove going :thumb:
Roee: Excellent song! I'm impressed :) I liked how it flowed and the consistant groove and feel. Good structure and I liked the part with the 2 tracks of bass playing a little melody! I can't think of any constructive criticism to say to you.
Roee gets my vote :thumb:

damn thanks a lot guys. i'm glad you guys enjoyed it. guitar_fool202 i haven't heard your song yet because i can't right now but as soon as i can i will.
for all the questions: i'm using a musicman stingray, and the effect is a envelope filter QTron+. i'm recording directly in, no amp is involved :( i've been playing for 2.5 years. when i write the songs i first play it by myself or jamming to a drum beat and then i create all the drum parts for the verse, chorus, etc and then i record over the drums.
thanks guys for listening, it means more than you think.
