I saw a few threads about recording help, but i s'pose my situation is different enough to warrant my own thread

i have a 4track recorder and all the necessary things to get voice and guitars recorded. what im wondering is, how can i convert those doublesided tapes to mp3s on my computer? the recorder has the generic white and red smaller outputs. what cables would i attach to from it to my computer, and where would i attach them on my computer?

any help would be much appreciated

What you need to do is by an RCA to 1/8 phono lead. Plug the RCA end (red and white plugs) into your 4 track, and the 1/8 phono jack into the line input on your computer.

Just ask at your local hi-fi store for that lead and you'll be laughing.

awesome, that is exactly what i was looking for. so when i can plug the 4track into my computer, do i just hit play on the 4track and record on whatever application on my computer? at least, is that a base way to go about it? im sure i could buy editing software and a mixer etc etc, but right now i am quite literally broke, so the closer to 0 dollars spent here, the better

Yeah basically. Do you have any recording applications right now?

I would recommend either Kristal Audio Engine or Audacity, both of which are fairly good and free.
